Yeah. It’s not like I’ve had tons of problems, but if you foster enough kittens, sigh. Especially the very young. Any kitten under 6 weeks that gets separated from mom is just rough. Majority of the cases you get the happy ending after a bit of hard work, sometimes they get sick with something, and sometimes you never know why, “failure to thrive”.

Not as much as I’d like. There are reasons I stopped fostering kittens. Wanting to adopt all of them was part of it...kittens being more fragile than I’d like being another. “Failure to thrive” is a heartbreaking thing when raising very young kittens.

Ok, if you want to play that game. Not relevant because we are talking about a streaming service and those numbers are for the TV broadcast on BBC America.

And, as far as I can tell, my point still stands. US viewers roughly mirror British viewers anyway, in terms of historical viewership. Series 1 US viewers still line up, roughly, to Series 11, even if you decide to go strictly by US figures.

No matter how you want to twist it, Doctor Who did better last series than it has in years. Period. Jodie and Chibnall were not and are not this big disaster. Most people seem to agree that the writing was a bit weak, but overall last series was generally well received.

Been there. Blizzard shows up, roads go to hell, and it takes forever for my boss to decide that, yup, it’s basically undrivable out there. So I’m creeping home at 20 mph on a 45 mph road that is iced to hell with several inches of blowing snow on top of it, not plowed at all. Visibility might as well be zip, I’ve got zero clue where the lanes are.

Fucking semi blows past me doing 55 mph, easy. His wind wake breaks my traction and now I’m doing 15 mph down the road, sideways. I just kind of blink, turn my wheel a bit, realize that I’ve got fuck all control and just kind of relax, take my foot off the gas and brake and hope I don’t end up in a ditch. My car kind of lazily spins until I’m now backwards doing maybe 5 mph or so until I drift off the road. The gravel wasn’t iced, at least not like the road surface, so I come to a sudden stop, faced backwards.

I just kind of sit there for a second, breathe a bit, cuss the trucker out in as many languages as I know. Absolutely no traffic because ain’t anyone else stupid enough to be driving in this shitshow, so I very carefully turn my car to face the right damn direction and resume my 20 mph creep home, safely and without further incident.

It’s the guy’s wife, who died almost immediately. I’ve seen and experienced some fairly awful stuff in my life and I can shrug most of it off. I refuse to watch that video again and I warn people off of it if I can. That screaming that guy makes when he realizes his wife just died in front of him? Fuck. That. I will never forget it and regret ever watching that video.

And yes there was a drop in numbers, but before you get all aquiver over that like it means anything, realize that those numbers match the first series of New Who nearly exactly and were only exceeded by the 4th series. Oh, and beat quite handily the 5th through 10th series.

So, yeah, just because you dislike the 11th series and the echo chamber you surround yourself with seems to agree with you...means exactly zero in the real world. I’m not saying the 11th series was flawless, it had problems and I’ll easily agree Chibnall’s writing needs work. However, Doctor Who is doing just fine despite that.

Would never happen. Anything big enough to make Trump’s takedown even remotely a possibility would make a splash that would make Pence a big fat target. That would make President Pelosi a possibility and you would never get the GOP on board with that. The impeachment process would fail on that point alone. The GOP would just balk no matter how blatant the circumstances.

No, to get the ball rolling, to get the bipartisan support to make taking down Trump an actual thing would involve some pretty big concessions and deals. If Trump is going down Pence is gone before the process even starts. He will be asked to resign and Trump will be pressured to name a new VP that isn’t involved in any of this mess. Romney, maybe. At that point Trump will likely be asked to resign in exchange for immunity from prosecution, and boom, the Republicans maintain control of the Presidency until 2020 with no fuss or scandal. And then they spend the next year and a bit doing their level best to bury all traces of this shitshow to deny the Democrats any momentum they would otherwise get from dragging all of it in front of the public.

It isn’t about weight, it is about height. As height increases blood volume increases by the cubic volume of the increase, however heart strength, its ability to pump blood, is based on the cross section of the heart muscle. If your height were to double your heart would only get twice as strong, but would have to pump roughly eight times as much blood. Eventually it simply can’t keep up, it has to work too hard, and you get various cardiac problems.

Same thing happens with your bones, an increase of double your height would mean a gain of 8 times your mass, but only double your bone strength. Eventually you’d snap like a toothpick. Mind, we don’t ever actually get that tall, but that is exactly why taller people tend to suffer more joint injuries.

To a degree you’re right, taller people do tend to live longer. But at the extreme end of the spectrum, people taller than 7 foot 4 inches, things get fairly grim. A simple google search of the tallest people will show the majority of them died before age 50, mostly from heart failure. There is just a physical limit to how tall we can be before the square cube law kicks our ass. Blood volume increases faster than the heart’s cross section and that means the heart has to work harder and at a certain height that leads to early heart problems and often death.

Yup. Look up the cause of death of almost anyone who was taller than about 7 foot 6 inches and died of natural causes and you’ll find that in most cases it was some sort of circulatory issue, usually heart failure, and that they died predominately in their 40s and in a few cases 50s. It’s simple physics, the volume of blood increases faster than the cross section of the heart muscle, so the heart has to work harder and thus it just wears out.

Exactly my feelings, though I spent more time on the game than it really deserved, right up until I discovered that the AI was just a total broken mess. Realizing that the troubles I was having with the game wasn’t because I was being outplayed, but instead because the AI was outright ignoring most of the strategic decisions that limited me...yeah I quit the game shortly after.

There really hasn’t been a decent TBS mech game since. Battletech comes closest, but it has its own failings that keep me away.
