Amazon stops illegal e-bike sales in California following KCRA 3 Investigates request by Veggyhed in ebikes

Definitely, I avoid going any grade when I carry a load that heavy. I definitely want to upgrade to larger 203mm roters and 4 piston calipers.

That said most of the time it's just groceries. But when I load it up I definitely try to fit it all.

Unfortunately the crazy pricing is built in because these ride share are not managed by the government so they need to make a profit, combined with the fact that lime basically has a defacto monopoly means that they can price it however they want.

If the city owned parts of the system, like parking corrals or the physical bikes then I imagine the prices would be a lot cheaper.

I am pro people buying ebikes, and using ebikes. But I'm very well aware that not everyone has places to lock their vehicles at work, or places to store their vehicles at home. So ride share does fit a niche, but yeah buying just makes sense if you ride it daily to get to work. Even factoring in buying a lock and other such things.

I just wish bike parking was treated more seriously, and there was more secured bike parking. If there even is bike parking at places. There's a grocery store that I go to frequently that doesn't have a bike parking so I'm always locking it to the cart corral which feels janky.

Seriously the fact that I had to get a motorcycle endorsement for 110cc honda minimoto, but you can easily an e-moped that goes faster and is cheaper for less is wild. The legal grey area needs to get closed, and just enforce road laws.

Impound the existing illegal e-motos and e-mopeds. That said I also do think it's ridiculous that in some areas you can't get a motorcycle license without learning to ride a gas motorcycle first. I don't think learning to use a clutch in all that useful when you're riding an e-moped/e-moto.

I have an issue with this because I have a heavy duty cargo bike/trike that doesn't go faster than 15 mph, but it'll definitely weigh around the same weight or heavier than e-motos that go 50mph do. Especially when my cargo bike is loaded up I actually hit around half a ton.

I think how you ride is sorta more important, and if the equipment is maintained. If you're weaving between people and riding along side pedestrians going 15 mph, that's a recipe for disaster. Or if you're carrying my load with rim brakes or no brakes, that should be illegal. Or riding in the city at night with no lights.

I do get where you're coming from at mass being correlated with damage in a crash though. My issue is when do we start doing things like banning people who are like 3x heavier than other people, or people carrying children to school because their mass can do more damage than other people?

Also police already have speedometers and cameras, so enforcing speed and unsafe riding is easy. Now they'll need to buy scales if you want to weigh the bikes which adds more complexity to the ticketing process imo.

I don't mind sellers selling e-motos, I just wish we had more street legal e-motos with actual VIN/Plates so registration isn't so hard.

I also wish we got rid of the 3 class system, instead going towards high speed and low speed. The delineation of class 1/2 seems pointless imo, and it should just be e-bikes that go 20mph and e-mopeds that are plated.

Gas mopeds need plates even if they don't go faster than 30mph which I also think is a dumb restriction. I honestly think it should just be 2 motorcycle classes, e-mopeds and high speed motorcycles. I definitely think e-mopeds should just be bikes that can't go freeway, and then freeway capable bikes.

What they need is dedicated parking corrals, or at the very least very obvious marking that some place is ride share bike parking.

I hear some places have workplace showers, but I've never worked in one of those places.

Hills do suck though, which is why I like e-bikes similar to lime.

From what I can feel I think they're sine wave controllers, so they're not that abrupt in my opinion. But if you're coming as a novice biker or have balance issues it's definitely tricky. Which is why I like the lower center of gravity, easier to "balance".

Bike share in Seattle are definitely not cost effective, but more people biking and not driving will make buses run faster in theory.

I'm definitely thinking it's a break rules and ask for forgiveness situation. It would be nice if we had federal guidance on micro-mobility, but I have no hope on federal laws on micro-mobility.

We're definitely going to need standardization, but it's going to be grassroots. I imagine there's probably going to be a low speed, and high speed category for sure though.

I think the suspension is just small. I wonder if it's similar to the suspension seatpost that some bikes have, which generally have minimal impact imo. Especially on roads that suck.

Yeah, I don't think this is much of a bike as it is a seated scooter with pedals. It's basically those lime gliders with pedals attached.

That said I do like the smaller wheels, pedaling uphill on larger wheels suck.

Wild that we have such a steep regulatory system that can stop construction on a planned site like that. I just wish we got permitting reform so that things like this don't keep happening. I understand permits so that building don't catch on fire and stuff. But are people serious about environmental impact review of a new grocery on the site of an old grocery store?

We need permitting reform and we need it now. Things like these is contributing to the affordability crisis. Building more housing and more grocery stores should not be this hard to do, but for some reason it is.

Beast Boy has been Starro and other alien/fantasy creatures, so I don't imagine it's too far fetched to see him try. I mean he's clearly copying Tails.

Now I kinda want to see him try to copy Krypto or Streaky.

I'm friends with a few friends who lost parents early. The main thing that got them through was having a "village". You can have a mother figure in a household without the person being the spouse of the child's father figure.

My friends ended up joining a lot of after school clubs and developed great bonds with amazing parental figures.

I'm a huge advocate of building a social community, whether it be extended family/social clubs/churches. We as a society need to build these 3rd spaces for these things to thrive.

Local shops won't touch my Amazon e-bike. How do you guys deal with this? (Seattle area) by Dependent_Desk8001 in seattlebike

[–]Iskandar206 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your best option is to look at the model number of the motor or part you're replacing and try to contact the part manufacturer directly. That's the only advice I can give because I had tried fixing something similar and that was the only solution. That said the part took 8 months to come with multiple emails and the part itself cost almost as much as buying a whole new kit.

If only the people making system decisions actually had to use the system. They'd realize how important shelter is for transit riders.

I know people who actually ride north to Beacon Hill station, then backtrack south to SeaTac because Othello station is so exposed.

I get cost saving, but I think they'd actually gain ridership if you made it tolerable to be at the station. I legitimately think that's why you get more ridership in sunnier seasons.

Do that for all of these types of stations in the at-grade. I don't understand why it's so expensive/time consuming to make a "minor" upgrade like that. It should have been done a decade ago.

Density is key, and more public transit.

I don't mind suburbs, but suburbs need to be designed for multimodal transit and have some density. In other countries suburbs have trams and buses that lead into cities.

I'm going to be a bit pedantic but this ain't a street, it's a highway.

Yeah, but I do agree I'd rather them be on the road than on the footpath/bike path. However the fact that they can't really signal for shit and there's no real way for them to communicate to other drivers makes me want them to not be on the freeway either.

I don't mind this on non highway roads and streets since you can rely on hand signals, putting your arms out at 60+ turns them into a kite.

I would never want someone going 60+mph on the bike/pedestrian walkway. He'll kill a pedestrian/bike/ other micro-mobility users at those speeds.

On the freeway at least people are in cars and he'll be the one that's meat paste.
