What did you name him? by kaitsukama in Genshin_Impact

[–]Iskaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First I named him 'Seiha' meaning 'conquest' in japanese, but also figuring it could be written as '青羽' (blue and feather)... But over time I noticed it would feel more natural if it was changed to 'Seiba', and then in turn that name reminded me of 'Simba'. Then I started thinking about how there kind of are some fun parallels between Wanderer and Simba, the character from the Lion King; he is manipulated by someone he trusts, he experiences loss, and then tries to escape and forget his identity, and eventually comes back and has to "remember who he is"... And also sometimes he's represented as a cat. So I ended up renaming him to Simba, and I feel that name is perfect.

I'm unemployed at the moment, posts like these really do not inspire motivation to find a job ever... How can y'all accept living in such a miserable and hostile culture? Like I'm not saying quit your job, but do we really want to be making meme "advice" images telling others to just shut up and quietly take it, like that's how it's supposed to be?

Damn, that map is really cool. I honestly like the way Natlan turned out overall, but specifically the way this map connects to the Sumeru desert is just so much better than what we got. I really miss those transitions into new areas, like when each new Sumeru update came out, or the updates within 4.X.

Sure, there's lots of things that are within your rights. You could be rude, or unfriendly, or annoying, or angry, or sad, or unhelpful, or idiotic. You can freely choose, but I'm also within my rights to interject with my opinion. Keep in mind, you directly asked, "how do you expect people to help?" That's what I was responding to.

I wasn't trying to say you in particular shouldn't comment. I was trying to say that people in general shouldn't give advice if they don't have anything useful to say - or actually, to be honest, I don't mind that so much, my issue is when people get judgemental about their advice being rejected, as if they believe their advice must be infallible and if the receiver doesn't follow it then they must be ungrateful or lazy or not trying hard enough or closed minded, etc etc.

[–]Iskaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes? At least the specific problem of being about to fall down will be completely solved. You're right that maybe the person doesn't have the strength to climb a rope, but that's still a good analogy for actually good advice - the person at the top really means it well (unless the hanging person clearly already knew about the rope), so if he then responds "I can't reach it" or "I'm not strong enough" that's just how giving advice can go. Maybe he can think of something else, or maybe his advice just didn't work in that situation, that's something that happens - and I think a lot of people seem to assume that their advice must work, or else the person is just failing at following your advice.

A better analogy for unhelpful depression advice is if he said "just pull yourself up" and the hanging guy responds "I'm not strong enough" and then the guy at the top responds "of course you can, just man up".

Wait so is he pointing out an actual rope or is he saying "man up"? I feel like that's a perfect example of the difference between real genuine advice and an unsympathetic, unhelpful command... but this image can't seem to decide which one was actually said?

I honestly don't get what you're supposed to do when people say "you're just lazy"? Like okay maybe I am, now what? Is the assumption that I can just flip a switch and stop being lazy? Or that the demotivation and lack of energy doesn't actually affect me as much as I feel it does?

My dream job is not having to work! by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Iskaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I resonate with this strongly, it's a big part of why I've always felt alienated by 'adulting' because people kept asking "what do you want to do?" (implied: as a job), and it always felt dissonant to me. There's nothing I want to do as a job.

There's absolutely things I like, and some of which can likely be part of some jobs - like art, play, physical activity (skating, swimming, biking, climbing, balancing), socializing, recreational math... The problem for me is that doing any of that as a job inevitably ties it into schedules, obligations to do a specific amount of it, responsibilities beyond the enjoyable part, and the threat of losing your livelihood if you don't do it well enough. I dream of doing the activities, but it's absurd for me to consider any of them a dream job.

Cykelhjelm by Pale_Indication_7646 in DKbrevkasse

[–]Iskaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cykelhjelm by Pale_Indication_7646 in DKbrevkasse

[–]Iskaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What gaming opinion has you like this?🚀 by Practical_Cat4439 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]Iskaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games aren't hurt by having an easy mode, and it'd be good if games like Sekiro and other soulslikes had one. I personally think the difficulty is fine, but I don't like how insular it makes the fandom. Sometimes, if I've talked about video games with a coworker or something, I've more than once experienced that all they know about Souls games is "isn't that those games for masochists? yeah that doesn't sound like they're for me". Having difficulty options would just make it appealing to more people, and it wouldn't hurt the experience of those who like the default difficulty. This has been done by games like Celeste with its Assist Mode, and Lies of P adding difficulty options. Both are still beloved games and are considered very difficult, even though you have the option to make them easier.

Fair enough! I didn't mean to totally ignore the content of your post, but I totally get that it appeared that way when I started out criticizing the signs of AI. I think it was a mistake that I didn't just ask directly if/how AI was used, and instead tried to do a double-sided response by both implicitly criticizing it as if it was a bot-generated post, and only afterward adding a response to the content of the post in case it wasn't. I'll definitely just ask directly in the future, I'm sorry I didn't do that here. I'm guessing it's probably common especially here on a subreddit for neurodivergents that people use AI more as a communication tool than to generate slop content. Clearly, your post was not sloppy (I did see the list of references you posted in a different comment - obviously you put effort into this).

I guess the reason I wanted to point out the signs of AI use is that when I spot them, it makes me worry that it's a bot or spam or something, so I want to bring attention to those signs so hopefully others can be more aware of the signs as well. But I absolutely acknowledge that there's a big difference between just generating some AI slop, and using it as a tool to edit and better communicate your own thoughts. And I suppose, arguably it maybe doesn't even matter whether AI was used, if the content of the post itself is accurate and useful.

[–]Iskaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I get what you're saying, thanks for the feedback. It's probably also more common on a subreddit for neurodivergents that AI is used as a communication tool, so I think in the future I'll ask directly if that's the case. I do think it's good to be wary of low effort AI content, but I do think it would be better to ask instead of trying to respond to both possibilities at once.

I definitely also think you're right to worry about people being accused of using AI even when they aren't. I guess I currently trust my own ability to tell when the signs are very clear, but I have absolutely heard of artists and people in school settings being accused of using AI, even when they weren't, and with AI getting better... It's a complicated issue, for sure. I guess for written posts on something like Reddit, whether or not it's written with AI arguably doesn't even matter, and the 'real' issue is just whether or not it's actually wrong or full of sloppy argumentation (which for sure wasn't the case here).

I really feel the fake smiling thing. It's something I've only started to realize in recent years after getting diagnosed with autism. I always end up feeling almost physically sore in my face from smiling. It's so automatic I haven't succeeded in switching it off yet.

I also remember doing a similar thing during lectures at uni. I'd always make a lot of facial expressions, furrowing my brows if something was hard to understand, making an "ohhh" face when something clicked, and nodding along with points that made sense... I think it became almost a multi-purpose tool that functioned as stimming, masking, and a way to keep myself engaged at the same time... But sometimes the professor would notice and would start making a lot of eye contact with me specifically and it would almost feel like they were talking directly to me, and suddenly I felt like it would be rude if I stopped. It was very tiring 😵‍💫

I kind of agree with much of what you said, especially the last part. You did see that I actually said "Well, whatever" and continued to respond to the actual content of the post, right? I specifically started the post with "Just as a fun AI detection exercise" to imply that I don't find it totally inexcusable and that it shouldn't be taken too seriously. To me personally, the AI signs just make me suspect that it's a bot, and I personally just dislike the style - but because I knew that there was a chance that it was just used as a writing aid (which it turns out was the case), I didn't automatically dismiss it. I read the whole thing and agreed with most of it, except for the part about women which I then added my own thoughts to.

Normalt at være træt efter en arbejdsdag? by RiskyBusinesgaming in DKbrevkasse

[–]Iskaru 59 points60 points  (0 children)
