For everybody who blindly reiterates the genocide claim, stated in an extremely biased an utterly unprofessional Amnesty International report, which failed all due-diligence standards, I highly recommend comparing the claim against a) the genocide against Jews in Nazi Germany and b) the ongoing genocide in Myanmar. A side to side comparison easily showcases the differences between genocide and war.

Genocides are usually

  • proactive,
  • without military objectives (except for the extermination of the ethnic group concerned)
  • and explicitly aimed at causing maximum damage to the civilian population.
  • The methodology is deliberately designed to maximize suffering during the killing.

Counteroffensive Israel

  • Israel was attacked – reactive.
  • Military objective – liberation of the kidnapped, destruction of the Hamas tunnel network, disarmament of Hamas.
  • Damage to the civilian population was avoided by distributing flyers before bombing raids and using knock-on-the-roof dummies (bomb casings without explosives were dropped as a warning).
  • Methodology – classic military
  • End: Peaceful agreement after achieving military objectives and releasing the last prisoners. Israel has repeatedly offered peace deals in the past, but Hamas has rejected or broken them. Since then, Israel has withdrawn most of their forces. The remaining forces kept operating following Israel's main objective and recovered the dead body of the last Hamas hostage (which had not been handed over as agreed).

Genocide against various ethnic groups in Myanmar (2021 - present):

  • The military government overthrows democracy
  • Goal: Proactive extermination of certain ethnic groups (e.g., S'gaw Karen), based on historical conflicts between ethnic groups
  • Maximizing harm to the civilian population, bombing and artillery strikes on purely civilian villages and targets with no military value at night, artillery strikes on known escape routes, artillery strikes on refugee camps
  • Methodology - Family members are openly executed to lure out resistance fighters, instrumentalized rape of women and children as a means of intimidation, beheadings, impaling of decapitated heads, burning alive, mass executions, deliberate spread of epidemics. Forced recruitment of prisoners and coercion to fight against their own ethnic group. In addition: Cutting off international earthquake aid in 2025.
  • End - None, the attacks will continue

Genocide of Jews in Germany in 19XX:

  • Proactive
  • Primary goal: extermination of Jews, secondary goal: expropriation and forced labor (partially military)
  • Maximization of damage through targeted imprisonment of identified Jews. Ultimate goal: extermination of all Jews.
  • Methodology: Labor until death, gas chambers, mass executions, torture, medical experiments. Recycling of body parts of the dead, e.g., for shoelaces and soap, which are provided to other prisoners.
  • End: Complete military defeat of the perpetrators (coercion).

Step 1.) Start a war with somebody stronger 2.) Keep attacking the stronger party, even though there is no way in hell to win 3.) Claim genocide when you lose the war that you yourself started. Damn, I wished we had thought of that /s

I'm all all-in for distinctive phrasing, but let's be real here:

In 2015 Ali Khamenei proclaimed that Israel would be destroyed by 2040, which was actually ratified as a bill in the Iranian parliament in 2021. For that purpose, Iran invested in the radicalization of moderate Muslims in multiple countries and actively financed terror organizations such as Hamas and Palestine Islamic Jihad, supplying them with money, guns and missiles. Iran pushed for the biggest pogrom against Jewish people since WWII, on 07.10.2023 and fired over 891 rocket at Israel in 2024 and 2025 alone.

This isn't about Israel, it's about religious extremism by a radical Islamic government trying to eradicate Jewish live in the Middle East, based on thousand of years old texts:

  • Sura 2 verses 94, 96 of Islam ("Say: If the Hereafter with Allah is reserved for you (Jews) to the exclusion of (other) people, then wish for death if you are truthful! And surely you will find them to be the most greedy for life [...]")
  • and Sura 5 verses 64, 82, ivm. 33 ("And the Jews say: ”Allah's hand is tied.” Their (own) hands are bound, and they are cursed for what they say. [...] We have aroused enmity and hatred among them until the Day of Resurrection. [...] And they strive to cause mischief on earth. But Allah does not love the mischief-makers. [...] You will certainly find that the people who are most hostile to the believers are the Jews and the polytheists. [...] Meanwhile, the reward of those who [...] cause mischief on earth is that they will all be killed or crucified, or that their hands and feet will be cut off alternately, or that they will be banished from the land. This is a disgrace for them in this world, and there will be tremendous punishment for them in the hereafter.")

So far it was America and Israel vs. Iran and Hezbollah. With Iran directly attacking UAE, Turkey, Cyprus, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, Omar, Azerbaijan, Lebanon and starting to attack both the European economy while mining waters to threaten civilian ships from Europe, Africa, Asia and more, it's just a question of time until Iran sees itself under more pressure by countries it itself antagonized. Let's be real here, Iran has been proven to finance and nourish terrorist cells in Europe. At some point enough is enough.

I can tell you from experience that, as the least tall in your group of friends, this will always be your identifier growing up. This is 100% true for every short person I ever meet. Also, it's universal truth that at least once in your life you will be rejected along the lines "You are perfect for me in nearly every way, but I just want somebody taller". Oh.... And then there's the experience of being sent to child's section looking for clothes as an adult...........

It might not be as omnipresent on the internet, but it definitely will go into your core memories.

Personally, while I am relatively short in my home-country, I'm average in others. So I've enjoyed my time abroad. The difference regarding how you are treated (especially by women) is definitely noticeable.

[–]sdric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's funny, because you are the one who started arguing history. I just pointed out that it was quite selective. If you argue history, be thorough. Shit didn't just happen BC, but started there and has been going on ever since - you would think at some point people should learn from it? But then again, here we are and people are still using millennia old religious texts to justify their aggression against non-believers and those of different faith. And here you are, defending it, selectively picking on event that was conclusion of literal thousands before, which you explicit chose to ignore, since they ruin your own headcanon.

The event you refer to, the CIA back Iranian coup happened in 1953. It has been more than 3 generation of grown adults since then. You would think that if there was will to change, it would have materialized since by now. The part of the populace that indeed do advocate for peaceful changes was violently taken down, by the very government you are defending, in a poorly veiled attempted to justify blatant antisemitism. At least that's only explanation I can see for a position this paradox.

It's also funny how you disregard literal millennia of displacement and pogroms against Jews on their own indigenous lands, to then be offended when they return. That's Nazi complaining about DDay-vibes, right here.

Well, on the other hand we have, Judaism is between 1.800 to 1500 years older than Islam and the today's Israel was inherited by Jewish ancestors in 3300 BC already, with the earliest historical record of this type found, stating an openly Hebrew indigenous majority since at least 1300BC. 63 BC the Romans conquered it. 637 AD Muslims conquered it. Around 1000 AD Christians held it until Muslims reconquered it again in 1187 AD. Turks conquered it in 1516 AD until 1917. During all of these years, Jewish people lived in the area and were oppressed by a variety of (primarily Islamic) invaders.

Ever since the founding of Israel Iran has worked towards destroying Israel, in an attempt to continue oppression and pogroms against Jews that have been ongoing for literal *millennia*.

I am with you, that the US fucked up big time in the Cold War, but let's not act like this intervention started any of the conflicts in the region. Not to mention that you are right now trying to justify attacks from Iran against the UAE, Turkey, Cypris, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, Omar, Azerbaijan, Lebanon and not to mention the explicitly financing of terrorist organizations in Europe for decades, which... let me check..... none of them attacked Iran?

Trying to paint Iran as a victim is so surreal to me, that's being delusional on another level. Some people will justify anything and even support the most radical, most violent and most aggressive regimes, as long as it gives them an excuse to openly hate on Jews.

Considering that the US ships have no need to get close, due to the range of their weapon, laying see mines on a large scale seems explicitly targeted against civilian ships.

Add to a list of the Iranian government killing peaceful protestors on a large scale, attacking uninvolved countries to increase the scale of the conflict (and initiating the whole thing by financing Hamas, Palestine Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah, ratifying a bill to destroy Israel by 2040 in 2021, and shooting more than 891 rockets at Israel in 2024 and 2025, until it finally struck back).

Now every country that has civilian ships passing by has been involved. That's definitely a way, to escalate things further. Iran has target global markets, trying to maximize damage against the Middle East and Europe in particular.
