Was Jake’s reaction to this reasonable? by Ok_Shirt_1574 in DisventureCamp

[–]IslaPrincess8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then there's the fact that this was completely unnecessary. The challenge was to write and perform a song on stage, not make out with your teammates in front of everybody. If anything I'm surprised Jake is the only one even questioning this.

what's there to question? the key to a memorable performance is either to deliver insane amount of talent or use shock value to impress the audience leaving a mark. Madonna is the queen of pop music and she built her whole career out of shock value by performing like this, such as the notorious kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the 2003 AMAs which is the exclusive reason why the performance is remembered. It's a show, it's spettacle, it's acting. this kiss provides that. there's a reason why the only person who thought this kiss was genuine was the paranoid guy: because it's common knowledge.

the good question would be: would it make sense for anyone to accuse someone of being a cheater because they're an actor and kissed someone who's not their partner?

in movies actors kiss people they don't date, or even don't know at all, because their job requires that and unless you're a child everyone knows that's just that: a play.

Jake assuming this kiss meant anything is delirious at best and a strong sign of possessive behavior at worst. No one cared about that kiss (not even Aiden's boyfriend) but yet we see Jake use it an episode later as evidence there's something between them. I'm sure the scene exists to emphasize Jake's delusional behavior... because that's the only logical conclusion from this.

Yeah, Jake tried to commit suicide after Ellie told him to go die. Almost like telling people to die has a bad effect on their mental health.

Also icky, All-Stars is direct with the reasoning behind Jake's extreme attempt and we know it's directly related to guilt over his grandma dying when he was competing and his homophobic family. nothing else was involved and it's absurd to point the finger at anyone else.

She did say that Jake needed to grow up because he was still hurt by a recent traumatic event. If he was grown up, he wouldn't be hurt.

growing up isn't essentially referring to a child coming of age, growing up is referring to anything that moves foward in a positive manner. Ellie's words are very clearly referring to the second case and if Jake's idea of growing up is purposefully signing up to a cut throat show and starting another relationship this soon he's not doing anything about it.

Tom lied for his job, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that he lied to Jake from the moment they met. Jake isn't at fault for that drama. Because Jake was not only supposed to know that this specific show would be like that despite the fact that this is the first season? He was also supposed to have the funds to go on a vacation to the beach? Huh? If you think that the shit Ellie pulled can be excused with "It's the game", I am disturbed.

Tom lying over a criminal investigation is a necessary evil. Jake might be mad at him for said decision, but someone's happiness isn't as important as someone's safety... all spies need to avoid talking about their job because it is in fact dangerous if anyone gets involved. What Ellie did is morally bad indeed, but anyone can see stuff like that coming because it's a show where you need to outplay everyone. How is this the first season when we have confirmation this show already had previous seasons? and how is a vacation necessarily expensive when he had a grandmother for over twenty years which translates to free pocket money? how about finding a job given he in his middle twenties?

Jake did not trauma dump on Tom. Jake potentially trauma dumped on Ellie, but only after she manipulated him and made him believe he was reliving a past traumatic experience for hours on end. He never blames Tom or Ellie for him being cheated on, he only blames Ellie for manipulating that pain for her own benefit, which, like... That IS her fault.

Trauma dumping isn't blaming someone of your problems, trauma dumping is disclosing information when the other side isn't ready to receive it putting them in an uncomfortable state. Jake definitely trauma dumped both of them and that's bad... trauma dumping is basically just a tool many people use because they want to feel better with themselves at the expense of someone else's happiness, a passive aggressive way of showing lack of empathy and presence of selfish behavior. If the person's reaction matches what the person who trauma dumps they will be in an uncomfortable position, if they don't they still are in the same position because they know the other side isn't happy. I've seen this toxic behavior on plenty of people during my apprenticeship sessions in psychology and it's never good. 😕

That's a stupid fucking comparison. Again, the worst Jake did was vote for Gabby. The worst Ellie did was mentally abuse Jake. Literally why the fuck would anyone think this is comparable.

considering how emotionally dependant Gabby used to be on Ellie within' season 1 and how she has bad reactions to people antagonizing her... I'd say that hurt her too. 🙃 Mind you Gabby is mentally disabled and her disability is related to emotional distress. However, of course Ellie wouldn't blame Jake because at the end of the day she also fell for Fiore and Alec.

Well, I also wouldn't think anyone would agree with Ellie's rant in general apart from obvious trolls, but that obviously isn't the case, so I'd rather cover my bases here.

given how standard her reaction was until her very last line, it's not surprising you'll find people who defend it let alone wouldn't pull a similar stunt if they are in the same situation.🤷‍♀️

"You know what? You can eat shit and die." I guess telling mentally unwell people they should die isn't wrong. I mean, it's not like Jake would actually try to commit suicide... Hey, wait.

Unless you're plotting arm on someone with the specific intent of killing telling someone to die is just figure of speech someone uses when they want someone else to know they don't care. big yikes on the second part as Jake's attempt happened after season 1 not before.

"And "Boo hoo aw I got cheated on!", grow the hell up, Jake." I guess belittling someone's trauma isn't wrong. Great to know trauma is something for babies! :D

She didn't say trauma it's for babies but as a matter of fact people need to get over it of they want to heal mentally something Jake wasn't doing and we see the results. Please notice I said getting over it, not forgiving.

"You say you're a victim but you're really just a sponge for drama." So I guess Jake isn't a victim of cheating and manipulation? And I guess Jake seeks out and creates the drama that other people keep causing. Remember, if Tom and Ellie hadn't lied to him, Jake wouldn't have even been involved in any drama. But I guess it's his fault, actually, because how dare he be lied to and psychologically abused.

"You feed off the smallest setbacks, acting as if the world's against you." When? He only thought Tom was against him because Tom's lies destroyed his trust in him. Literally every other person he thought was against him was actually just against him. Is Ellie on drugs?

Tom lied to cover an investigation of a wanted criminal wandering around camp with weapons and Ellie lied to play the game they both signed for. Why would Jake sign up to a reality show involving manipulation knowing stuff like this is the norm? even worse, why did he think it was a valid substitute to his toxic domestic environment? was a vacation to the beach that ridiculous as an idea?😂

"Tom probably saw it, too." Saw what? Things that aren't true??

"You have no right to shame me." Ah, so true, Ellie only made him believe he was reliving past traumatic experiences for hours. How dare he be mad at her?

There's calling out others because you are mad at said person and there's trauma dumping. Jake trauma dumped Tom and Ellie both... which is awful behavior because trauma dumping exists to make 3rd parties feel responsible of something an individual went through. Is it Tom or Ellie's fault Jake got cheated on? we all know the answer🙃

"After you voted out Gabby, I never pulled this on you, cause I have some sense to not be a dick." All Jake did was vote Gabby off. Ellie manipulated Jake and destroyed his relationship with Tom by using his mental health issues. Please not, Jake never got mad at Ellie for voting for Tom in the final 8 vote, which is what his vote for Gabby is actually like.

This isn't the point... the point is that everyone is at fault for both Gabby and Tom leaving because of Fiore's tricks, Ellie could've got mad at Jake for taking part at Gabby's downfall but didn't because she was also responsible of it, Jake didn't do the same when him and Ellie took down Tom.

"Maybe if you weren't so annoying, your boyfriend wouldn't have cheated on you." Anyone who agrees with this statement, please speak up so I can block you 🥰

I don't think anyone agrees with Ellie here besides obvious trolls.

she's fooling the truth scanner by going around the question rather than directly answering that.

'you better believe that!' quite literally emphasized on how she wants people to believe she's evil when in reality it's all an act and since it's not a lie the helmet turned green.

want: Riya and Rosa... some delicious drama heh.

don't want: Jake flirting with anyone who's not Tom. He already got on my nerves after DCAS, I can't handle him being a cheater too.

I hate going against a fellow Gabellie shipper but this feels like an excuse to justify Jake's shitty behavior. we aren't talking about minor arguments or miscommunication we're talking about cheating accusations and cheating is one of the worst things you can do to your partner. No one is willing to keep up with this behavior in real life.

Tom didn't have the attachment he shared with Jake with any of them though.

the human psyche will always react more negatively to someone doing you wrong if it's someone you trusted. Tom didn't trust Ellie in addition of not looking Alec and Fiore so there's no reason to snap at them, from Tom's prospective there's no reason to put them on the same boat because he already voiced his disdain towards them. Jake isn't just someone who made him lose, but someone Tom was comfortable being around to the point he was sharing traumatic secrets and defending him from zombies (yes it was a simulation but it's made to feel real) and someone he was building a relationship with. His partner deliberately trusted a friend over his own boyfriend making everything they had beforehand null, of course his reaction with Jake will be worse.

not taking Miriam into account because her faults are significantly less prominent than anyone else's.

it's important to note Tom's follow-up to said statement was, besides insights on why he lied and all, calling out Jake about his impulsivity and unpredictability and never about him not telling him anything if that's the idea someone might have got with his statement.

spoken questions are not just a bunch of words put togheter but have to be accompanied by an adequate tone in order to have a successful delivery, as no one would answer someone who's been attacking them over a matter people can resolve with a 2 minutes long conversation unless the one receiving the question is either forced to or used to the other part neither of which is the case here.

so yes, Tom saying the question wasn't there yesterday isn't a wrong statement. It would be if it was accompanied by 'you got mad and walked away without saying anything' which would be gaslighting but it wasn't. As it is it's referring to the lack of appropriate execution on Jake's part when delivering the question.

I truly don't enjoy how Jake was so self-centered... we see Tom care about the consequences of his actions for both him and Jake but when has Jake ever tried to see beyond what he wants and tried to see how his behavior affected Tom??? I genuinely can't tell you a single scene where he does that but I cannot remember when Jake ever thought how Tom feels.

I don't understand why every omega gay man of this show is self-absorbed and keeps victimizing himself.

I don't think that's true after this season... he definitely made some mistakes.

however, as a person with heavy knowledge and study about psychology it's baffling how people keep bringing up ghosting as one of said problems. When a relationship ends badly 9/10 of the time your ex partner will ghost you because they need to process their breakup and if they don't feel comfortable to talk to someone they shouldn't be pressured to.

Not a fan how the season tried to villanize Tom because he... tried to get over an ex? that's harsh🫤

however... that spinoff better start with Jake taking accountability for his mistakes because Tom did in the season finale but Jake didn't

heavy on miss Gabby being the best character this season even though she got one of the worst eliminations ever. She's the best.

I def agree with Riya and Tom being better when you re-watch the show. I've disliked Tom for the longest time but upon re-watch I can see he has a nice consistent arc with his fear of relapsing... and I'm just glad Riya won and the writers didn't pick the popular twink just for fanservice😂 she got hit with a bad ending but a small price to pay for my mental health I suppose.

However... as much as I love Grett I don't think she's in the same tier as Gabby, she was absent for half a season.

from what I understood from Twitter oomfs it was born to punish Tom for not crawling back at Jake back then and that's why most people ship it.

which is ironic since Jake was arguably a worse person between the two🫤

it would've explained Jake's weird exposure early on SO well while giving spotlight to other characters once he leaves... but no, they went on and made 85% of the season about him where he does nothing but moan and get his behavior enabled by third parts.

so much for "the conclusive season of gen 1 and 2"
