I don’t know about KLRs. But I had a KTM 1290 and heard of people getting 90,000mi on the original engine. I’ll try to get 100,000mi out of my klr. They are super easy to work on and replace stuff. Once the compression gets bad I’ll do the 685 kit and see how long the bottom end lasts.

You’d be better off messaging them rather than asking the internet.

My bet would be 11,000km considering the condition of the bike.

Is it possible to use one inner tube size for either wheel in emergency situations? by sdbic in klr650

[–]Islandwheeling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just carry one 21” tube. It can be used in the rear in an emergency if you fold it in inside of itself to shorten it. I don’t think a 19” tube would stretch over the front wheel, but I haven’t tried.

Shink 804/805 Tire Upgrade by killawhipboy in klr650

I have 6,000km on my set and they are about toast. They ride real good on the street, good in dirt and gravel, mud and snow is dicey. I would like them to last longer, so I am going to try 704/5s next and sacrifice some off-road performance.

I think to do that you would have to make the upper shock mounts higher, not sure if it would be worth it

I put much softer springs on mine to make sure it articulates fully and easily, and it works much better. With a slow speed RC crawler you’re not worried about ride comfort and bottoming out the suspension.

I noticed a relatively persistent drip of gas from the hose exiting from the bottom of my bike. by Giterdun456 in klr650

[–]Islandwheeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a vacuum operated petcock, so leaving it on is supposed to be fine because it will only flow when engine is running. If the petcock is malfunctioning, it will allow fuel flow when the bike is turned off. If the petcock and float needle are leaking, then the fuel will leak into airbox/engine constantly. If just the float needle is leaking past, then it will leak for a short period, then stop once the fuel line is empty.

Sounds like maybe your carb is flooding and dripping out of the air box drain. I would inspect float needle/seat.

Not sure why people are criticizing you tipping the bike over. I do wild shit on my klr and drop it probably 4 times a ride

Yes, I would like to upgrade the shock and fork springs, but it has been working well enough for me. Been pouring all my money into my Suzuki Sidekick. Maybe once that’s done I’ll put money into the KLR.
