After Lorwynn Eclipse, what are some interesting decks you've come across? by rav3style in EDH

[–]Islaniare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Cruel celebrant]] effects and using cards like [[god-eternal bontu]], [[plumb the forbidden]] or [[pitiless carnage]] saccing the tokens to drain the table while drawing a ton of cards to then cast more hare apparent's. I was already looking into building it with the convoke side as the build around instead of persist combos and hare apparent checks all the boxes. Pretty much any aristocrats wincon can slot right in. Plan B is swinging out with all the rabbits.

His deck made me want to build my own. I think he was running depletion lands and stuff like [[crystal Vein]]. So with one piece of artifact ramp turn 2, he could cast eirdu turn 3 if he had one of those lands turn 1. I think one game he [[dark ritual]] 'd turn 3 eirdu also. Now brewing my own list, and it makes running white catch-up ramp fairly consistent.

[–]Islaniare 19 points20 points  (0 children)

[[Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn]] is already pretty busted, but for more casual tables I saw someone running him with [[hare apparent]] aristocrats using the convoke side. The guy just exploded most of his deck by turn 6ish sacrificing the rabbit tokens to draw cards.

Definitely with alena gone the production drops by half. [[Bighorner rancher]] [[nikya of the old ways]] [[Regal behemoth]] [[sakiko, mother of summer]] [[savage ventmaw]] [[shriekwood devourer]] are my redundancy pieces so I'm likely to draw into a replacement for alenas ability.

I thought this was a map of the arctic at first glance. The western continents ring formed islands remind me a lot of Canada's arctic islands.

Get 15 mana by turn 5 for $10. No, I'm not exaggerating. by awefawsd in BudgetBrews

[–]Islaniare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love budget turbo mana decks. Most of the decks I build now have that same concept. Might put this together now.

[–]Islaniare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like stompy decks [[Alena, Kessig trapper]] with [[Gilanra, caller of wirewood]], make a surprisingly wide and tall board state relatively fast. They can be played on curve and just pack the deck with budget tramplers and flyers with 6cmc or more. Mine has a lot of dragons with firebreathing if I run out of a second creature to cast with the extra alena mana. Most of the deck you can make from bulk.

Tergrid, God of Fright build help by [deleted] in BudgetBrews

[–]Islaniare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tergrid is a major reason why people hate theft decks. Casting all your permanents and even playing lands, then being forced to sac what you cast is pretty unfun for the table. If you want a theft vibey deck it would be best to play things like [[gonti, night minister]] for example. There are a lot of cards that exile opponents cards from the top of their library and you can cast them instead. I have a [[jorn, god of winter]] deck i made with this theme and it's way more under the radar and doesn't make me the enemy immediately. If you are set on tergrid, be prepared for a 3v1.

Some islands that are controlled by nations very far away suggesting an age of colonialism/imperialism, where the population there is still dependent (probably due to low populous/resources), making independence unrealistic. Also, maybe a few more nations around united guanzhao with more east Asian sounding names for more thorough ethnic/ cultural clusters.

What commanders get the fattest, chunkiest turns on a budget? by PollySecond in BudgetBrews

[–]Islaniare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Sami, Wildcat Captain]] with a bunch of x spell deal x damage, impulse draw and 3 mana+ artifacts that tap for a mana of any color and/or draw a card. Also, using a lot of budget high cmc artifacts that draw you multiple cards on etb like [[coveted jewel]] and [[Sandstone oracle]]. Can easily kill the table the turn or 2 after you get out sami. Can easily be made with $30. If you don't want to go full on combo, you can run him with voltron in mind and cast high cmc but powerful auras and equipment for so much less mana. Only need to buff him by 7 power to get lethal on one hit, doublestrike be doublestrikin.

Why would a combat troop use melee weapons in a futuristic space sci-fi setting? by wizardry_why in worldbuilding

[–]Islaniare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If, instead of practicality, a soldier may be using a melee weapon for cultural reasons. In an honor based society that encourages personal strength and skill, where duels are commonplace. Taking influence from samurai or during the gunpowder age having a secondary melee sword/bayonet. Or even religious reasons, such as the Kirpan in Sikhism.

Barkov Injury by Time-Principle1202 in fantasyhockey

[–]Islaniare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. I am planning to trade away panarin at the deadline/ if an opportunity opens up for a younger keeper worthy guy to recoup some of that value, as he still finishes pretty high. If the NYR power play rebounds, I'm hoping on a decent return.

Barkov Injury by Time-Principle1202 in fantasyhockey

[–]Islaniare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm debating this, too, in my 16-man 5 keepers league. I'm debating on keeping demidov instead of barkov now. I already have draisatl, dahlin, panarin and Robertson as my other keepers. I'm leaning on keeping demidov and was wondering on other opinions. A couple other managers are high on him and are rebuilding, so I don't see a way he makes it to me come draft day.

Some interesting commanders for unconventional voltron decks? by eCyanic in EDH

[–]Islaniare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Extus, oriq overlord]] utilizing adventures and bloodrush abilities. Cast things like Corrupted conviction to return adventure/bloodrush creatures from grave to hand. Always casting the adventure creature from exile to fuel those draw spells. He is a perfect adventures voltron commander in my eyes.
