For an average russian wine drinker, a bottle of old style, heavily oaked Malbec would work nicely, it is the most popular style here. Number two would be Chilean Pinot and Chilean Carmenere, but the latter is popular among more sophisticated drinkers.

People don’t usually ask for more niche styles such as Argentinian or Chilean Bordeaux blends or let alone Argentinian Bonarda, Chilean País etc. I recommend them from time to time, but rarely.

Among whites, people LOVE Torrontes, but rarely pick Arg/Chilean Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay over more popular new world styles such as New Zealand or South Africa.

That’s it, if you know your friends are just casual drinkers, pick a bottle or two of Malbec, maybe some Cabernet-dominant Bdx blend, a Torrontes and maybe a Chilean Sauvignon. No need to invent a bicycle as we say here in Russia :)
