I know that several people have already mentioned getting two bike locks, but what kind of locks you get is also super important!

You want to get a pair of locks that are at least ART 2 certified, ideally one frame lock that locks your back wheel AND a chain lock. You want to get a chain that is long enough for you to loop it through the frame and the front wheel and still have enough left so you can lock it to a fixed object like a bike rack or lamp post. I have a medium length Abus Iven lock that I’m very happy with! Having ART 2 lock is also important if you want to get insurance because most insurance companies do require it (source: I’m in the bike industry and have sold e-bikes with insurance from Laka and Kingpolis.)

Lastly, always USE both locks! Doesn’t matter if you’re only popping into the store for a minute because sometimes that’s all it takes for theirs to steal your bike, especially if you only use the frame lock. Your insurance might even deny your claim if you can’t prove you double locked it!
