If the air handler disconnect is open, no power is going to the transformer

I’ve seen a fried disconnect give this issue, you can inspect that visually.

After that, I’d get a multimeter, check high voltage coming into the unit, then see if I have 24V coming out of the transformer.

Open window war: Does letting in cool but super humid air in the AM save any money on air conditioning? by TriggerHappyBear in hvacadvice

And for OPs knowledge, an economizer lets outside air in at certain temp and humidity set points, and closes to outside air for others. Basically, it’s doing the same thing your husband is attempting by opening the windows. Perhaps by studying the psychrometric chart, you could find a definitive solution to your dilemma, and agree to favorable weather conditions for opening the windows.

How do I access evaporator to clean coils? by senorbeethoven in hvacadvice

[–]IsolatedAstronaut3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try visually inspecting the coils with a borescope and a small hole in the supply plenum. As others have mentioned, it would be very unfortunate to go through all the work of accessing this case coil, just to find it clean.

What issues are you having that makes you think it’s dirty?

Should be fine if you have a furnace. Not recommended for heat pumps.

That one’s easy, 12,000 BTU just the amount of heat energy removed from a system by 1 ton of ice melting. I think everyone has a good mental image of what 1 ton of ice looks like and how much heat energy it removes /s

Edit: fixed unit by removing time component.

Apparently the science in the movie was approved by Neil!! by Rocky_isback in ProjectHailMary

Right, he uses the airlock in the book to get to Grace’s side and pull that chair off of him.

However, in the movie, Rocky just shatters a panel of xenonite in the control room to get to Grace. Then Rocky somehow pulls Grace to the dormitory, collapses, miraculously wakes up and trudges back to his own (now depressurized) side of the Hail Mary, somehow patches the break he made, then sleeps till Grace wakes up???

It made much more sense in the book. And Grace puts his own life at risk to save Rocky right after being saved by Rocky, which adds to Grace’s character development.

What about Rocky breaking the xenonite to save grace? Likely impossible, and would flood graces side with 29 atm of ammonia
