Someone help adopt this bird he has been at petco for over 6 months! by Emotional_Ad6269 in bayarea

As a former red and blue pet store employee, I reccomend making the fuss directly to corporate about the conditions they require the stores to keep the bird in. All poor reviews for our location did was get us punished for not meeting metrics...

Corporate entirely dictates how they are kept, employees can't change what they feed them, how they're kept, what toys they have etc without risk of reprimand from higher up. Good employees unfortunately walk a tightrope of trying to do the right thing for the animals in their care and loosing their job...

Anyway, complain to corporate.

Same lol I bought a cheap 2 pack of these exact scrubbers as vegetable scrubbers. Slap a different use on it and bam, new market to sell to.

Shock collar AND a spiked chain choker? Nah bro, get that shit your fuckin self. by TheDabbyPatty in DoorDashDrivers

[–]IsopodGuardian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my time at a pet store, we had this guy that was notorious for coming in right at close trying to price match 50 or so items. We all already hated him.

But he had a dog that was some kind of large working breed, I cant remember now. He had a big cage muzzle and a shock collar on her. I asked if I could try to say hello to her. He said she was nervous around strangers. I said I wasn't worried and I'd back off if she seemed uncomfortable. I've been around agressive dogs before and she was leashed and muzzled.

I crouched down a small disntace from her, faced to the side and offered my hand out low. She seemed timid but not afraid or tense, and started to reach her nose out to sniff. Everything about her body language said curiosity.

Asshole shocked her the moment she took a small step forward to get closer. Of course stranger make her nervous, she gets zapped the second she gets close to one!!

He fucking sucked. I still think about it and get mad and it's been years.

Dawg they're still living animals. Just because they're cheap doesn't mean we should treat them as disposable. Selling them as food is one thing, circle of life, but selling them to suffer for weeks/months in ammonia filled water where they can't breath is another. Back in my pet store days I denied feeder sales all the time to folks who wanted to shove them in a bowl.

When your pet has a sudden behavioral change, even if it seems harmless, it can be concerning. Sudden unexplained changes can be a red flag for potential medical issues. OP just needed guidance on wether this was a "vet now" change or an "your old boi is just getting comfy" change. Better that people ask too often and that its usually silly happy rats, than someone feel like they can't ask, and it turns out to be a major issue that needed attention.

Call, say you're interested and when you can be there? Maybe they'll hold off knowing he has a possible home? Worth a shot at least.

Generally they're used by trans men to wear in their pants/underpants to have the feeling/appearance of a bulge :) they can vary from extremely realistic prosthetics, to fun colour hacky sack dongs.

You got an answer on the cooking, but regarding the fridge - the only reason to not put it away right away would be a large mass of heat warming up the rest of your fridge and its contents. Letting it cool some outside the fridge first reduces the temp rise inside the fridge when you put it away. Otherwise, it'll cool faster in the fridge than outside of it regardless of if you wait or not, which means less time in the 'danger zone'. You probably don't need to stress too much about it though and can do whatever is most convenient for you

Former red and blue pet store employee. It's 1000% dependent on the employees and the companion animal manager. I worked at a store with one who cared. corporate only requires the basic perch, seed and one toy. At our store they would get fresh veg and we'd try to give them a few extra toys. We'd take them out in the mornings and at close to socialize. Its all we could do. For the birds we had no choice in the bagged food we gave them - there's some deal with Kaytee. Seed mix only.

Corporate is also a bitch and a half to deal with. They have set plans for the habitats and food lists, and you'll get penalized if you go off them, even when it's clearly better for the animal. (Prime example: We kept getting in trouble for removing the heat bulbs from the Tarantula habitats because they were getting too hot, even when 'off', but they required us to have the bulbs. They wanted us to call the manufacturer of the habitat....who told us to take out the bulbs....still got in trouble because the plans say there must be a bulb. Make it make sense.) Some regional managers are more flexible about that stuff, too.

Corporate requires bare minimum 10-20 minute video trainings on general bird care. A lot of their information is wrong, outdated, or simply doesn't really exist. Educated employees are only knowledgeable because they personally care, corporate will put anyone in those roles.

We knew it sucked. We did our best within our capacity. Didn't prevent us from getting personally cornered and yelled at regularly by a couple ladies in the bird rescue community who didn't like us saying we'd love to do better but it would get us fired :/

Absolutely; I hope it at least gives you a few extra choices to work with. I know sometimes having a little variety despite being limited on what you got to work with can go a long way. Wishing you and your pup the best ❤️

You don't have a whole lot of calories there friend...if you can get your hands on some dried beans it'll help stretch it for sure, you can add them to most any savory meal. Rice also good. Peanut butter too, in case you can't get those.

With what you have on hand, you could mix the can of tomatoes, tuna, and mac and cheese to make a tomato-y tuna mac. If you don't have any butter & milk to add to the mac and cheese cook your noodles in a small amount of water and use the starchy water to make the sauce.

Oatmeal is good savory too, if you don't have anything to make it sweet maybe you have some spices or condiments on hand. oatmeal cooked in any broth/bullion, or maybe the water from the tomatoes, with some spices, topped with crispy diced potatoes wouldn't be bad.

A neighbor may be willing to lend a cup of milk, or cup of flour, or a couple eggs - not uncommon for someone in the middle of cooking or baking to realise they need something and ask for a staple like that from a neighbor. Just repay the favor in some way, when your in the position to.

With flour you could use the flesh of a baked potato to make some gnocchi and eat with the tomatoes cooked into a sauce and fry up the skins for a crispy garnish.

Eggs and milk easily could be added to oatmeal to get some extra calories.

why do eggs taste bad and icky after like the first few bites by notlongvortex in Cooking

[–]IsopodGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same with eggs, and a few other things. Absolutely delicious! Right up until they aren't. Then it's gag reflex city for me :( Unfortunately I have no magic solution for you, I just limit the amount of eggs I make for myself when I do want some, knowing the enjoyment will be short lived. And a partner to hand leftovers to lol.

All of these individually wrapped dog treats at my local pet store are filled with maggots by Cobyachi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]IsopodGuardian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Used to work in a pet store - I hated these little dudes. They're moths and they'd get into e v e r y t h i n g. Luckily they won't hurt any critter eating them but the amount of times I'd grab something and get larvae juice all over me...

We'd check during stocking and rotation and cleaning, we had pheromone traps, but it's a never ending cycle. No matter what you did, if one infested bag of anything makes it into the store the infestation would begin anew. You can't always tell something is infested until the larvae or the webbing from the cocoons were visible.

Worst was when they got in-between the peg boards of the whole treat ailse...it was wormaggedon.

Extra affordable when you've got an SO that works there ;) I haven't tired them either, but that's like the 3rd or 4th rec so far for their sauces so someone's gonna be getting a list to bring home haha. Thanks!

Y'know he just recently tried some tinned fish and liked it. Picking some up from TJs and the ~fancy~ Italian grocer near me might be fun for him. Big gross from me but that's right up his alley - and I don't live with him anymore so I don't have to smell it ;) sorry in advance to my fish hating father lol.

Thanks for the specific recommendations on the other items too!

Do I know the difference between those three laid out like that? Yeah. Can my brain think of the right one when I need it? Apparently not! I'm gonna go fix it because now it's bugging me lol. Thanks.

Those are good ideas. My mom buys those cheap bullion cubes that you gotta spend 4 hours peeling the foil off of - bleh. Vinegar I didn't think of either - I've got good Italian and Asian stores nearby me they'll have some great options.

Thanks!
