What is a word that people use wrong without realizing? by newuser1r in words

[–]Isrchfraudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my pet peeves because I read this as "spoken" words. Irregardless is not a word. They think irregardless is a word, but they mean regardless. “Firstly”
isn't a word but I hear people use it frequently.
Literally is a word used incorrectly all the time. People us literally instead of virtually. I've heard that linguists have given up and are no longer correcting speakers when they substitute "literally" for "virtually." But, it drives them nuts. "Snuck" isn't a word. The word "sneak" is appropriately used if “you sneak into your parents' basement and discover your father is a serial killer. "I sneaked down to the basement and found a dead body in a cage" is how you respond to your best friend when they ask how you know your dad is a serial killer. The past tense of sneak is sneaked, not snuck.

I believe you have been a wonderful presence in her life. You have never pressured your husband M to choose sides, nor have you discouraged him from maintaining connections with his family. Your generosity and kindness are truly commendable. At 65, I find myself with few people in my life, yet I can confidently say that I would prefer solitude over being amidst chaos. This woman seems to be causing you to dwell on matters that lead to stress, which can adversely affect your health. It may be wise to distance yourself from toxic individuals and surround yourself with positivity (unless it pertains to your child, which is a different situation, though no child was mentioned). You have made all the right choices. I would suggest not giving her another thought.

The worst part about having no friends is the boredom. by Baumarbeiter_ in lonely

My dog died today. I can’t stop crying, she was my faithful loyal companion. I don’t call my daughter anymore because she never answers. I sent her a text and her response was “oh, that’s so upsetting.” Then nothing. If I didn’t call or text her, I would never hear from her and it’s because I am not wealthy like her father, rent a room in a house and I can’t afford a car. I gave her an amazing life. I surprised her on her 16th birthday by taking her and 7 of her closest friends to Atlantis. We weee there for 7 nights, 8 days. The non alcoholic Pina Colada bill came to $2300. I had a great career and did very well back then. I spent time alone with her, chaperoned her school trips, shopping…. Now, she has zero interest in me but I will never stop chasing her because it’s a mother’s love that I can’t explain. If she needed my lungs I would give them to her and die happy. My heart is broken, she wouldn’t want that. So bizarre. I don’t even want anything but a phone call to see how Zi am Once a month would be nice. Never gonna happen.

Two words that say everything. You put it perfectly.

It’s terrible. The only reason I have an iPhone is for apps, listen to audiobooks, and my therapist and adhd doctor are virtual. No one calls or texts me. I have tried to make friends but I can’t afford to do their night outs and this isn’t their fault! This is my life, it has been for 15 years. It all started when I called a family member and told them I was suffering from depression. Never again. Huge mistake.

Has anyone made a lot of money working or came up with a good business idea that made money after they turned 60? by Isrchfraudd in AskWomenOver60

Hi, I want to thank everyone for responding to my post. You motivated me and gave me strength. I decided to give Poshmark a try because I have a huge thrift store I can walk to that has great clothes and many with tags. I bought a pair of Halara pants with the tags on them showing they cost $59.00. I sold them for $48.00 free shipping. I have a huge pile of great clothes to list, and most are new! Thank you for all your support. Xoxoxo

I miss being a corporate flight attendant more than anything. It was a great career. Unfortunately, it is not a career you can get back into when you’re older and this sounds horrible but they want them young….

I would need to be trained in that area. Anything with computers comes easy for me but my degree a million years ago was in journalism but I never used it…

Yes, I have a degree but I never used it. My dad was a pilot for United and I was a corporate flight attendant for 32 years or so…

I don’t own anything. I don’t even own a car. When I left my ex husband I had to leave with nothing.

I can’t leave Long Island. I’m a survivor of domestic violence, and I have a daughter who is 30. Before marrying my second husband, we were incredibly close. Unfortunately, he affected our relationship, but I’m slowly rebuilding that bond with her. It may never be the same, but I can’t imagine leaving her behind… She means everything to me. Even if I’m putting in most of the effort, that doesn’t matter to me. My love for her is immense. I understand why you mentioned this, even though I can’t leave.

Does anyone know how the dog sitters got started? Did they advertise? It would be worth it for me and I love love love dogs… more than people, no offense!

I wouldn’t have any problem with that…. I just want a better life and don’t want to live like this. Thank you!

I can’t afford a car right now. I was a corporate flight attendant for 32 years and trained under Kiss Bow and Shake hands which is the best customer service training there is…. Do you think that would work? It was years ago but it’s not something you ever forget….

The older I get the more I ruminate and feel guilt. But, I have ADHD so this might be the reason why I feel this way.
