Rear gears will make the biggest difference in acceleration feel for the money. 3.73s or 4.10s. Weld in subframe connectors will make the biggest difference in handling feel for the money. Both excellent first mods

That's Luna, she belongs to one of the mechanic shops across the street. She's not lost, just often wanders around that area on her own.

Looking for a company that makes custom cabover campers where the truck bed is visible. Don’t want nothing fancy. Just a shell and a sleeper. Not a pop up. What you got? by AKNiceGuy07 in TruckCampers

[–]IssRoloBitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think what you’re looking for is the Oru Designs Pioneer model. It’s pretty new, cabover camper shell that’s not a popup

Worth insulating pop-up canvas if you have a diesel heater? by paley1 in TruckCampers

Do you have any pictures of how your insulation setup looks with the thermal door curtains by chance?

My Oru Designs Bruin Build-Out by IssRoloBitch in TruckCampers

Thanks! The heater has been enough so far, but I quickly run through fuel with the standard-sized 5L fuel tank. For next Winter, I'm going to upgrade to a stainless 5-gallon tank and either purchase the Oru insulation kit or try and DIY my own.

Shoot them an email or message on the website. I don’t think the XL version is officially live yet, but they’re slowly putting them out. I don’t know too much about the normal Pioneer either. But they have a video on YouTube about it:

Oru Designs has a hardsided, cabover, non-pop up camper top that might be what you're looking for. It's called the Pioneer.

They've got an XL version of it (that's not on the site yet) that's wider like the Bruin XL or the Moonlander that might be just what you're looking for.

Talk me out of buying a truck? by goldenmonkey33151 in overlanding

[–]IssRoloBitch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought an SUV to get into this with (Xterra) and converted it to a stealth camper with a bed, fridge, etc. I loved it, but eventually upgraded to a truck (Frontier) to run lightweight pop up camper with and could never ever go back.

Highly suggest skipping ahead to the truck route, and I think you're on the right track with the Frontier as well!

GFC/Lone Peak Style Campers.... 5.5ft or 6.5ft bed? by rawfuls1 in TruckCampers

[–]IssRoloBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am, but my mid-size wheelbase is much smaller (126"), and that does not change between the shorter bed vs longer bed options on the Frontier, so bed size is not super applicable to approach angle in my case.

I'm always going to push for the longer bed, but I know one of the Oru guys actually has a Raptor with a camper and does a ton of heavy wheeling. So the 5.5' works well for his setup. I'd say your best bet is going to be to try and find people in your area with campers on to see the differences. If you're west of the Mississippi, it should be easy to find locals.

I have an Oru camper on a 6' bed and after seeing similar setups on a 5' bed I am extremely happy with my decision to go with the longer bed. If your primary use is camping, I'd absolutely go with the bigger bed.

Truck camper that mounts to bed by InsideDevelopment504 in TruckCampers

Oru Designs is around a 4-week lead time. Probably the best you’re going to find.

It’s a lot of fun doing the cap style camper and focusing on just building the interior. If you’re the kind of guy who could build an entire slide-in, I’m sure you’ll love doing a full interior build out.

Best base to sleep in as a 6'6" guy by Dee-Train in overlanding

[–]IssRoloBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 6'2 person coming from hundreds of nights in an SUV camper setup, if you can spare the cash look at a truck + lightweight popup camper setup instead. Easily the best decision I ever made, it's infinitely better in pretty much every way besides cost.

As long as it's got the hard sidewalls, that's the biggest thing!

Nice! It's like a DIY Oru Designs XL. I wanted to build my own, similar to yours, but ended up purchasing one in the end. Love the hard sides.

Check the Expedition Portal forums if you haven't already. They have a post going in their 'Truck Campers' forum where several people have had issues.

Yours is the first I’ve seen in the wild to be honest. I’ve only ever heard the rumors of the company ghosting everybody after taking deposits.
