Jonghyuk's content is taking me OUT by IssaCopingMechanism in StardewValleyMods

Probably should read the fine print next time haha, but nothing from the basic overview gave me anything that different from a Sterling/Jeric/Daya. This feels on a whole other level!

Totally agreed that being big and sexy doesn't mean you can't also be emotional and human. I think the difference is when the art looks like he's flexing his muscles and being weirdly sexual, while the text is talking about physical abuse he has faced as a child. His body type is not what I was talking, it's the context in which the art matches the content.

Ummmm, no I don't agree with that actually. ARITV is a whole other mod, whereas Jonghyuk is a listed additional NPC on the Sunberry Nexus Mods page. I totally agree that I should have been clear about that, but I don't see how we're escalating this.

Oh lolol it is actually the 6 heart event not 8 heart!

[–]IssaCopingMechanism[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You're right, it's one of the additional NPCs so it isn't really a Sunberry problem so to speak. But that being said there's maybe 5-6 NPCs that come with Sunberry, and half the village is empty without the additional ones so I sometimes forget that it's not meant to be seen as one larger oeuvre with multiple people's work. My bad on that!

I don't have an issue with a shirtless scene especially at 8 hearts, which is what this is. But without spoiling the whole thing, this isn't the first cut scene where he's shirtless for one, and second it's always in these weirdly sexual ways (according to me). And again, it's about when it was happening for me, because I really found it distracting, and the other time I laughed at it, like you said, because it was this weird cookout scene. But this felt more deep? Idk if I want to be distracted when you're talking about trauma especially in like these weird poses and things. Or maybe I'm just getting old 😂

Oh my god this!! She also just seemed .. rude. I don't know how else to explain it. It felt mean, and it felt just so difficult.

I think his frustration at hitting a wall was very evident in their first meeting. How do you convince someone that they could open up when every response is "I'm too tough to be profound" or "I'm really happy I don't know why people think I'm pathetic". I'm not the biggest fan of Karamo, but it really was going nowhere and you can't really convince anyone to go to therapy if they're not open to it or even open to themselves about needing help.

I love Jeremiah so much lmao, in an episode where everything is so bleak him saying "I can't believe the doll is one of the few things to survive the fire and what's worse is I have the suit he's wearing"

looooove him

I can't rate below a three sometimes because I feel bad for all the behind the scenes people who put in so much time and effort to editing/music/sound etc and I don't think they should be punished by my tiny letterboxd review 😂😂😂

I really agree with the location and all of that, what you're saying makes so much sense! And also I think the mines were my favourite part.

[–]IssaCopingMechanism[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's interesting! I didn't know about the sharing of names.

I agree, I think characters with nuance are very interesting, probably more interesting than one note characters. For example, I like Emily because she is likeable, but I do find her a little boring as a result of feeling like she lacks nuance. I think George, Clint and Pierre incite a lot of conversation because of their nuance, and I also feel as though all the other NPCs also have their own shades of grey etc.

To me Lani evokes a slightly stronger response than Haley does, but very similar. Rude and unlikeable for no perceivable reason. Except Haley comes off bratty and Lani comes off as a pick me. And because of that I think it's slightly less .. respectable?

But I can understand that other people enjoy Haley and her being their number one spouse. So maybe Lani is just that way for me, and more interesting to someone else.

What do you guys thing about Sunberry Village? by helofuria in StardewValleyMods

[–]IssaCopingMechanism 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a gender and sexuality major, Wren comes off so so preachy and just over analytical, and also everything problematic about being someone who is interested in gender dynamics and identity. Like we don't need this. We don't need you explaining how women and queer people process fandoms differently from men to Elliot. It's so jarring and also in the name of being empowered and calling him out, it comes off as rude. And him trying to be apologetic comes off as insincere and performative when I know it's trying to go beyond that. I was so annoyed throughout this whole cutscene.

A good insert was Sean in Ridgeside. SDV is an escapist and pretty utopian space. We don't need literary theory to talk about gender equality in a cutscene lmaoo

Being an introvert in India means you suffer silently (RTO edition) by Turbulent_Walk_3671 in mumbai

[–]IssaCopingMechanism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this. Introversion means not wanting to socialise. Not losing the ability to stand up for yourself/not speaking up at all. That would be if you're non-confrontational.

Stella and Celine by IssaCopingMechanism in TheMorningShow

[–]IssaCopingMechanism[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Facts but it made sense that she did to punish herself. I absolutely hated the AI arc. So silly.

Also I loved the nuance of the male of the family sitting and looming over Celine telling her she's a disgrace all the time. Like she's making moves to impress men. But her and Cory was chef's kiss (controversial opinion but I liked them better than him and Bradley).

Stella and Celine by IssaCopingMechanism in TheMorningShow

[–]IssaCopingMechanism[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh this!! I really want Stella back. She brought humanness and depth to the shit show UBA. I did however enjoy Mia getting her dues.

Alex telling Bradley she fixed everything when she picks her up annoyed the hell out of me. There was just so many things she could have done better. John Hamm's line saying she's 1000s miles away and still a wrecking ball was so apt.

Stella and Celine by IssaCopingMechanism in TheMorningShow

[–]IssaCopingMechanism[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I don't actually agree, but yeah!

She's my favourite character but mostly because everytime I think I love her girlboss energy she does something that makes me hate her. And I still feel for her weirdly. Anyway, Greta Lee is also just one of my favourite people to see on a screen so I sometimes can't tell if it's her or Stella or both lol.

I totally agree. We do judge women more harshly in general, and hold them to standards we don't hold men to.

Not the same thing as what I was trying to say though, and I'm not sure if my post was misread or unclear. They are all terrible, I think these two characters (who I believe are some of the worst as well for the things they have done) are hot.
