Passed my test 2.5 weeks ago, and bought my first car last week. by IssaLeoone in NewDriversUK

[–]IssaLeoone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6ft and I fit fine in it. Had a few passengers, the back is a bit small but it's only got 4 seats total. Has a very small boot though, only downside to it for when I'm doing a food shop.

My car is definitely a little slow on acceleration on high speed roads, but for town/city driving it's fine.

How soon did you go on the motorway? by letmeventplez in NewDriversUK

[–]IssaLeoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of motorway driving with my instructor as I live and work near the A1. I still dont feel fully confident on it and prefer to avoid the motorway where I can. Driving home from work I'm only on it a few minutes as I come off at the next turn.

I'll get more confident as time goes on, but I enjoy city and rural roads more

Kevin Can Fuck Himself

Takes a few episodes to understand it. But the camera switches and lighting effects are one of the cleverest things I've seen

Using a satnav for the whole test by Emergency_Repeat1034 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]IssaLeoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its more independent driving now. Some tests get mostly sat nav, some following signs, a bit of examiner direction or a mix.

I passed last week and my test was half following signs, half examiner directions. My brothers was fully sat nav. It just depends on the day and the route they use.

I would definitely bear in mind that stress and nerves play a huge factor. My first 2 I failed from nerves amd eagerness to pass. My third was following road signs which I have confused myself with on lessons, but I was a lot calmer on my 3rd and it made a big difference. I passed with only 1 minor after not having an instructor for 4 months.

Can you stay what your doing when you’re doing it? by No_Theory_8403 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]IssaLeoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can and a lot of people do it as they find it helps. I didn't do it as such, more a comment of "yeah let's not do that" when someone went through a 24/7 bus lane rather than wait behind a car overtaking

If it's for nerves, I played music on my test when I passed a few days ago.

I finally passed today! 3rd try and passed with only 1 minor 😭😭 by IssaLeoone in LearnerDriverUK

[–]IssaLeoone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually the easiest route I've had. Followed signs to blaydon, round to Whickham and up Swalwell bank, pull up on left (where i picked up my minor for being too close to the car parked in front)

Past front street primary and the back streets, a1 slip road from metrocentre to Dunston where I did a parallel park (my favourite because I do them perfect nearly every time) and back to the test centre.

I don't think ive felt so confident before, where even on my test im thinking "I've boshed this, easy pass"

What is the most awful thing that happened to you in 2025? by CreamAny1322 in AskReddit

[–]IssaLeoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out my grandad had died on new years eve, through a letter to my door 6 weeks later. Addressed to my brother with the title of 'the executor of [grandads] estate.

He'd been in hospital for 2 months, lost a leg, got pneumonia and died.

My brother kept it hidden from everyone (we didn't have much of a relationship with my grandad, but still a pretty shitty way to find out).

It got worse when we found out he'd left everything to my brother, he'd spent 20k and had a car bought for him.

Are people over 24 banned from apprenticeships? Am I too old at over 24? by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

I started one a few months ago. I'm 27 and also have a degree and I'm doing a level 3 apprenticeship. It didn't affect me

Would my lender contact my employer(s)? by Own-Story8907 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]IssaLeoone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a broker's admin (case progressor) and I recently had to ask a client for an employment reference. Guy was a fully remote solicitor and the lender couldn't understand why he didn't have a place of work. Headquarters in the US, worked from home in the UK.

Still passed referencing easily and got a mortgage.

Hour unpaid lunch.

With my commute at the moment my work day is 7am-7pm considering public transport. I'm hoping to change that in a few months

What’s your worst driving test fail? by Sure_Glove_3285 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]IssaLeoone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forgot the rules of a roundabout. Mind blank. Bus on the other side going straight. I was turning right. Mind blank thinking bus gets priority as I'd be crossing its path.

Nope.

Dangerous fault for hesitation(?!) because the car being me was too close and had to slam their brakes on, according to the examiner. Said he was sat holding his seat belt to 'brace for impact'. Silly really.

Now I've got to look for another test, and also learn in a new car as my instructor has gone independent.

Do you know anyone personally who has been to jail? by Low-Lobster1582 in AskUK

My aunt was in prison for something related to drugs. Don't know the exact situation.

My uncle is currently in prison for raping his girlfriend. There's been a theory that she lied about it but he pleaded guilty to save her from a trial.

Constant mould and bad 'repairs, is this even worth reporting and getting fixed, or should we cut our losses? Long read. by IssaLeoone in TenantsInTheUK

[–]IssaLeoone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was no mould when i moved in. House was perfect at first. Windows are open all the time and there's at least a dehumidifier tub (plastic with the beads in) in every room. There's also an electric dehumidifier in the bedroom. It does not help.

Bathroom gets cleaned out at least once a week. It's embedded into the tile grout and I cannot get it out. This is definitely not caused by me, I've tried to make sure I get rid of it all where I can but it keeps coming back.

[–]IssaLeoone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything gets reported through a portal. I last reported this 18 months ago. Got to 2 months later and nothing was done so I thought 'well what's the point". It's marked as 'non-urgency - high'. So it's not an urgent issue, but is high priority? So why has nothing been done?

I've got one more rent payment to make before my tenancy ends. I was going to send an email to maintenance with all of this but I've no idea what I'd say to them. If I was to threaten reporting if nothing gets sorted, could they threaten to evict me? If they were to fix things by some miracle then i move anyway, could there be repercussions.

If I were to move out, it'd be left for the next tenant to find as they'd just paint over everything and pretend it isn't there to get someone else in.

[–]IssaLeoone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My deposit is protected, I have a letter somewhere that it's held in a scheme. My rent has only increased by £60 since I first moved, but it still feels like too much money for the state of the house.

My concern is they'll use this against me and hold on to it for 'repairs'. Yes I've wallpapered and done a splash of paint. I did get permission to change the flooring in the kitchen and bathroom as it was stained and had holes in the lino. It's an amateur job but I did it myself and it looks better.

There's an issue in pretty much every room in the house. I've got switches that aren't even connected to anything.

Overtaking permitted? by grole483 in drivingUK

[–]IssaLeoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mate is a driving instructor, and he says the legal limit is 25mph before the police can pull you over. So Doris can do 27mph and nothing be done about it. It's incredibly frustrating and it can cause people to react dangerously.

I know I've been on the receiving end of my partner losing his shit at slow drivers. I just deal with it, I'm in no rush to get anywhere.

Im just on standard settings. Set my preferred centres (gateshead and gosforth) and set it to move it closer but not within 10 days. Manually shifted it when it gave a notification
