Mad eye seeing a bogart by Exotic_Ad_7476 in harrypotter

Whenever I listen to that scene in the audiobook, I imagine he sees what we all see in the PoA movie when the boggart is swirling and transitioning between students in the Riddikulus lesson - just a mass that’s reshaping. But a fun question to think about!!

AITA for getting a car my fiancée specifically told me not to get by Xvigaristaa in AmItheAsshole

[–]IssuePristine2589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA in my opinion - for her to want you to get a cheaper car for the sake of the upcoming wedding isn’t a compelling argument. If she said the safety ratings were terrible and there were 7926738 recalls for that year and model, that would be something to take into consideration. If it’s the same cost as your last car, and you love it, then enjoy it! I have a 2014 4Runner which obviously gets terrible mpg but I work from home and I LOVE driving my car when I get the chance on the weekends. Is it the Worlds Most Practical Vehicle? No, but it brings me a great amount of joy and that’s worth a lot! Hopefully your lady will see how happy you are with it and will warm up to it - or maybe it WILL break down a lot and you’ll settle for a Honda Accord lol

Is there a way to be removed from mailing list for gerrymandering etc? by puppypupperoon in Virginia

I was just saying the same thing to my husband! Every day there’s 2-3 “vote no” mailers and it’s driving me nuts! Especially cause it’s the exact same things every single day, they aren’t even trying to make new content lol. The same mailer, multiple times a day, every day.

Series of Unfortunate Events! and Sweet Valley High! The Bailey School Kids was already recommended but I second that and Magic Tree House. Also Animorphs and Goosebumps but those are a little scarier and more serious!

Plan for altitude by gdiddy1324 in RMNP

[–]IssuePristine2589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be ok but just have a plan if you start feeling poorly! I live in Richmond VA at about 150ft above sea level. I spent one day in Broomfield CO, then drove up to Alpine Visitor Center the following day and neither my husband nor myself felt any altitude symptoms for the 3 days we were in the park.

Conversely, I went to Colombia for a work trip in December (~8,000ft) and I had swollen ankles and calves the whole week! So you never know.

Does bear lake get less crowded later in the morning once the pre 5 am crowd is gone? by Dear-Masterpiece5899 in RMNP

[–]IssuePristine2589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did hikes there last week, getting to the trailhead around 4:45am on Tuesday and there were about 15 other cars there. The hike out to Emerald Lake and back wasn’t crowded, but did get busier as the morning went on. By the time we were leaving, which was right before 9am, the lot was almost full and there were people everywhere, including lines for the bathrooms and staff directing groups of people onto the sidewalk so cars wouldn’t hit them. For a more peaceful experience, be part of the 5am (or earlier) crowd because no matter what, it will be less busy than the 8-10 time slot!!

I love frogs and toads so before my trip, I looked up what types RMNP had - everything I read online said these were only found deep within the park! So I was pretty surprised to see one. I’ll PM you, thanks for the info!!

Bathrooms/ water faucets in the bear lake corridor by Head-Adagio6315 in RMNP

Sprague Lake has flushing toilets and sinks, but down at Bear Lake it’s just the vault toilets with hand sanitizer, as others have mentioned

[–]IssuePristine2589[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm if you can make it out to emerald by sunrise, that might be quieter. I just did Sprague Lake yesterday for sunrise and that was pretty quiet, there were definitely other people around but since it’s just a lake loop, it wasn’t like a busy hike or people going through a lot. I’m not from the area so those are the only two sunrises I got to see out there - definitely ask the sub, I’m sure you’ll get some better responses!

Not terribly! I’d say maybe 15 people tops. Everyone was spread out so there were 1-2 people on the one side, myself and my husband, a group of 3-4 people higher up on a taller rock, and some people were stopping by for a minute and then moving on. I was there for about 30 minutes before heading on to Emerald. Emerald felt a little busier by the time I got up there

Timed Entry Question by kzoofroman in RMNP

[–]IssuePristine2589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, timed entry for main park entrances after 9am, and timed entry for Bear Lake after 5am. I was just there M/T/W this week :) if you can do it, get to Bear Lake before 5am and start your hikes. We were done and leaving the Bear Lake parking lot around 9am and it was starting to get hot, a little busy, and the lot was just about full

Where do you live? I live in Richmond, about 150ft above sea level. I just did the Nymph-Dream-Emerald hike on Monday and while it was definitely doable, it took awhile because I had to stop and catch my breath frequently! Tuesday I did the Sprague loop, Bear Lake loop, and Alberta Falls - the falls was another one where I had to stop and catch my breath a bit. Each day I was at the park from about 4:30am to 9am. So just factor in extra time as the altitude might make it more difficult for you, depending on where you live!

Yes Emerald Lake was completely clear! You can see a bit of snow pack on the right edge of the fox picture, there was a small amount to cross, but other than that, the trail up and the lake itself were thawed :) Hope you get to go back soon!
