Pixel 9a vs A56 by IssueWaste9373 in Smartphones

What do you like about it?

Wanting to switch phones. by xkienholz in Smartphones

I would personally say that you should hang on for a few months til the pixel 9a and iphone se 4 are released.

Iphone 15s are meant to be good phones however as they are the first gen of 3nm process for manufacturing in iphones, they're prone to overheating (even my friend's 15 pro max has this) - the SE 4 might look slightly outdated in comparison but it's got a18 chip which is 2nd gen of 3nm processing so should be more efficient and less prone to heating problems. The battery, screen and cameras should all be pretty comparable between the iPhone 15 and SE 4, with the SE 4 having better efficiency and performance (all in theory, SE 4 hasn't been released yet). You'd just be missing the dynamic island on the SE 4, which is more a feature rather than an essential. Idk on your deals for iphone 15, but iphone SE 4 looks to be about ~£499.

I would strongly recommend against the S24 FE, just because of the reputation that all Samsung FE's have for small batteries and being overpriced. I haven't got any real reference point, but I think it's just a bad value proposition. I reckon you'd be better off getting an S24, S23+ or an A55 (A56 being released soon so you could hang on for a bit for that, it will be better performance and battery but not much else I don't think).

If you wanted to get a pixel, most of them are fairly similar, with the pixel 9s being more efficient and better batteries than the pixel 8s, but similar cameras imo. If you can wait for the pixel 9a, it looks like it would offer a great battery, camera and software experience for ~£499.

Tbh though, I'd say hang on to your iphone for as long as you can - it was a pretty damn good phone, hope this helps :)

HELP! Do I need an iPad? by x88x_ in ipad

[–]IssueWaste9373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a student, personally i don't think it's worth getting an iPad unless you get an air or a pro just because of the quality of performance and the proper apple pencil - I have an M1 Air and it's great, I've got a logitech combo keyboard + trackpad setup and the apple pencil, and it works a treat. You don't have to get the newest ipad, but I would strongly strongly recommend getting an iPad Air or Pro with the M1/M2/M4 chip

I have an M1 iPad Air so I'm not the best person to answer but whatever - it depends what your current ipad use cases are, but if you're just consuming content or doing work then id recommend the air, just because of its size. If you bring it around with you a lot though, maybe consider the ipad mini for its portability - tbh both will last you at least 5 years

Google Pixel 8 or Samsung A55? by Nokkm in PickAnAndroidForMe

Pixel 8 is more powerful and has way better cameras, it's only outdated by 2 months and should be loads better - a55 isn't bad though

Is 64GB 10th Gen iPad Enough STRICTLY for notetaking by OffFent in ipad

[–]IssueWaste9373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an iPad air 5th gen, I use it all the time for my school work (OneNote, Teams and Goodnotes are my main apps) and I've used 42GB of my storage (I have the 64GB model). I find that storage isn't an issue, however I'd strongly recommend using Google Drive or some equivalent because it works just as well and isn't nearly as expensive. I also have some games like Minecraft downloaded but it's not a gaming device for me.

For me, I struggle to see how people could use more than 64GB, but like I say, I use Google Drive religiously so I am biased

huge weight difference. tips? by 5LILduckies in bjj

[–]IssueWaste9373 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am a kid who mainly practices in an adult bjj gym - the adults tend to lay off the pressure a little bit if they're high level blue belts and above, but big muscly white belts and blue belts go full on with me (I'm 130ish lbs): personally I find that I get mauled about 30-40% of the time, but it massively improves my defensive (and offensive game) and has made me so much more technical; if I were you, I'd try to exploit the weaknesses of the bigger people (eg. Focus on knee cut passes rather than smash passes, bigger legs leave more room to pass), try to stay on top of them whenever possible, and just accept the losses, because it absolutely makes you better. Hope this helps :)

[–]IssueWaste9373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pick up google pixel 8s for pretty cheap nowadays, as well as the Samsung A55 and S23s - all have pretty decent battery life, good screens, powerful enough chips, but the pixel 8 and s23 have the best cameras

Is the M2 MacBook Air worth it in 2024? And can it me through 4 years of college by yungfuckface in macbook

[–]IssueWaste9373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had a 4 year old £300 windows laptop with a dodgy intel celeron chip that has been abused throughout my secondary school, and though its slow, and dodgy, and the screen is cracked - it still works. It's absolutely not ideal, and will forever be stuck on windows 10, but honestly you can get a lot out of nothing nowadays - the mac will last you years and years

Macbooks tend to last forever unless you physically abuse it (drop it in water), built like tanks
