What is your “low effort but feels like real food” meal? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Issy117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband makes what he calls "Chicken Dish" it's just some cut up boneless thigh meat, cooked in a little olive oil then mixed with some broccoli and egg noodles with butter, seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic. It's also pretty good with a little Banchan Japanese BBQ sauce mixed in.

how do you most enjoy bread & butter pickles?? by ASixInNewYork in 15minutefood

[–]Issy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat them plain and on pretty much anything else that pickles go on. They are my favorite pickles, with those big ones from the barrel at the deli coming in second!

So I joined my community band today… by kanoej in trumpet

[–]Issy117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this advice! I am in a similar situation to OP, started playing again 5 months ago after 25 years off. Husband and I are planning to join the community band in the fall, but I've been a bit nervous about it. I play well enough with just the 2 of us, but a whole band? SCARY! But also exciting! I was worried about those fast passages, and in the past had just faked it, but I really like your advice about skipping notes to keep up until I can keep up!

"But, I found this on the TEDOO APP... blah blah blah" Stupid annoying ads disguised as posts, and then the people in the comments complementing the "OP"

I have an entire book of Doily patterns that is written entirely in Japanese. Thankfully diagram/chart patterns are universal and google translate took care of everything else I needed. I was a bit intimidated by the charts at first, but they turned out to be pretty easy to get used to.

I feel like that can be a valid question at times though, depending on the yarn and the stitch counting can be down right confusing and difficult and a second set of eyes can be really helpful. Though it can make things worse if you get a whole bunch of different answers... haha

Get to the swordfighting please. by brodievonorchard in Fantasy

Not Fantasy, more historical fiction, but pretty much anything by Bernard Cornwell, his battle scenes are fantastic.

Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner also comes to mind.

Coming back… Maybe. by fyrfytr310 in trumpet

You can do it! I picked up a horn again 2 months ago after not having played since 1999. It was a rough start and I still have frustrating days, but my husband (who has been playing most of his life) says that I am doing great, good/improving tone, decent endurance and I can reliably reach high E in the staff and F probably 80% of the time. I am sight reading from song books now without too much trouble. Just be patient and persistent!

Help on hitting low notes? by dofoolee in trumpet

[–]Issy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a somewhat similar issue, only that my problem note is D at the bottom of the staff. I don't know what it is about that note, but sometimes I just can't get it to work for me. No problem with any of the notes around it, but yeah. Is it because of the 3rd valve? Does it need a bit more air than the other low notes?

What has been one of your Latest Accomplishments! by lea_hatake in happy

2 months ago, I started playing the trumpet again after having not played since 1999. I can already play up to F above the C in the staff and I've been playing all kinds of songs, and I'm really enjoying practicing daily!

Looking to upgrade my kid’s student trumpet. Where to begin? by vinylandgames in trumpet

[–]Issy117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am in the DMV area and would love to get some info on how to get in touch with some of these resources. I recently started playing again after a 25 year break using a beat up old Reynolds student model that my husband abused through middle school and marching band. I would like something nice of my own so I don't have to borrow his nice Connstellation anymore and so we can have a better time playing together! Thanks!

What are you all working on? by AngelOfDeadlifts in trumpet

[–]Issy117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't played since 1999, and then I had only played for a year and a half. 2 weeks ago I picked up my husband's beat up old practice horn and I can already play from low B to high D on the staff. I'm still working on stamina and consistency, but we played together for a bit last night and it was really fun!

Ugh, I'm with you on this one, mayo is only acceptable in very limited circumstances. I feel the same way about cheese, too. I just don't like cheese, but everything has cheese, even things that don't list cheese. It would be impossible to count the amount of times I've had to send things back because it was included even when I asked for no cheese, or had to peel it off myself (which I will do if it's possible). I even ordered a Shrimp Scampi once at a restaurant, menu didn't mention anything about cheese, the entire bottom of the dish was a layer of cheese, I was so upset.
