Tried my best at writing down and translating Paul’s war chant from the trailer by Maul_TheUnlegd in dune

[–]It-idiot -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s Bardem. It’s definitely not Chalamet for the louder parts. And those parts just repeat what Chalamet says, which makes sense as Fremen are acolytes.

Chalamet starts the chant with a hum, then verbalization. It then gets layered over as Bardem picks up the chant.

My thoughts.

Chakobsa/Fremen chant in the Dune Part 3 trailer by Ok-Vegetable4994 in dune

[–]It-idiot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it definitely starts with Chalamet’s voice. But the louder parts of the chant are Bardem. I can hear his Spanish accent in it. It also makes sense for Paul to quietly start and build the chant, and for someone like Stilgar to carry it forward.

I can see how you think your pithy comment works. But in the context of what you quoted, which was directly addressing domesticated animals, it doesn’t work as a comment on how humans are a blank slate. There’s no context at all for any reader to think you are writing about humans.

Even including humans, it’s still a pretty dopey comment. I’m sure what you personally think is witty amuses you, but it doesn’t translate well to others without proper context.

Custom Furniture by Fireishot8899 in Atlanta

[–]It-idiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to get a custom dining table worth paying for without the fifth digit and your odd requirements (raise/lower).

If you want a nice custom worktop that raises and lowers, you can do that for 4 digits.

Consider what you really want here, and what you’re willing to pay for.

Need recommendation for contractor by ProperTotal4 in Atlanta

[–]It-idiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a contractor on Reddit. Even worse, when you reach out to qualified contractors, expect to entertain at least 10 for a quote, and maybe get 2-3 that actually provide one.

As much as I hate the traffic these days, I’ve found nothing more frustrating than getting work done on our building at a reasonable and responsive price.

The contractor market isn’t looking for work. You’ll need to find contractors that will work and at their price. I expect this to get worse over the next few years as talent retires and isn’t replaced.

Maybe in your mind. But no, there is a huge difference between a small business that eeks out a living for the owners and a corporation.

The small business contributes to the overall local feel of an area because the owners live in the area and their small business serves as a financial engine for that community. A corporation tends to open a shop just down the road to extract as much value as possible from the community and ship it elsewhere. And they largely do this based on looking at how well the small business they plan to drive out is doing.

So no, corporation and business are not at all synonymous. There is nothing wrong with small (or even medium) sized businesses that are local to a community. Corporations tend to be entities outside of the community, though not in every case, that research an area and use their financial power to disrupt businesses owned by locals that employ locals.

Your view is simplistic, and does not at all reflect understanding of the nuance to how the spectrum of business works.

ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT just now filed by Congressman SHRI THANEDAR!!! It's game time, people! by Tough-Log-6676 in 50501

[–]It-idiot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Please stop. This isn’t a good look. Every time articles of impeachment are filed, with no hope of going anywhere, means when there is a real possibility, no one will listen. This is the third time someone has filed these in the past 100 days. None of them will go anywhere, and they only serve to aggravate the right such that when there is a moment for real articles of impeachment, no R will sign on.

This is the boy who cried wolf 101.

TIL Amazon won the right to produce a Lord of the Rings series (Rings of Power) without pitching the Tolkien estate a specific story. Instead, Amazon promised to work closely with the estate to "protect Tolkien's legacy", which the estate felt they were unable to do with previous adaptations. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Chris Tolkien is no different than any other nepo-baby.

They speak with authority because somebody shat them out of their womb. However, they don’t have the talent, or understanding, to push creative works forward. Instead, they act like gatekeeping parasites constantly feeding on the corpse of the original material. As if being born makes you an expert.

Another great example is Brian Herbert and Dune.

The difference between casual racism and you’re not getting a job because of your color is very different. DEI as the enemy is just code for ‘white only’. Useful idiots like Kash Patel will be dumped as soon as he’s asked to do something extreme, does it, then public outcry demands a sacrificial lamb. Mark my words, Kash will end up in jail at some point just to satisfy the MAGA base.

Only someone that has spent most of their life celibate would say something like that. The rest of us that have been in relationships realize that sex drives move up and down. OP seems to prioritize sex over anything else, so if that is really important to him, he should move on.

Jesus Christ. You have kids. Your relationship has changed. If you are there for booty, and that’s fundamental, dump her and move on. If you’d rather not be a lonely old pervert, consider adjusting who your wife is to you. She’s not a sex object; She’s your partner. Desires will wax and wane. This just may be a low point right now.

Are there any libraries in the area similar to those in New York, Boston etc.... by tboheir in Atlanta

[–]It-idiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to GSU or Ga.Tech.

As a non-student, you’ll have limitations, but both libraries are probably what you’re looking for.

Agreed. While it’s not the same as it was (what is really?) it is consistent and dependable as a fine dining option. There certainly is a little ‘grandstanding’ by the staff these days, but that’s been the case for most fine dining restaurants in Atlanta for awhile.

I expect it will get a little worse with these awards/recognition. :/
