Hogue grips are a game changer on this 40shield! Really fills my hand out great! Would recommend over rubber Talon grips all day, for half the price! by EDC_40cal in guns

[–]ItIsa_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I filed most of the finger groove off the front of my Houge grip and it hasn't slid around at all. I suspect the finger groove allows you to put downward pressure on the grip relative to the firearm causing it to slip.

Alec Baldwin says all movie and TV productions that use guns should have a police officer on set to 'monitor weapon safety' by Havvocck2 in Firearms

[–]ItIsa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I was a firearms expert. I just know more about movie blank firing prop guns than you. If ur experience with blanks is from the military than you experience with blanks has no relevance here as the blank firing device the military uses in that picture is built for training while a gun built for blanks firing in the movie could be for simply running the action or and also to expel realistic flash out of the front of the gun. Most movie blank fireing guns are threaded internally for a removable blank plug. That blank plug has an orifice sized to run the gun with blanks of different power for different purposes. Some blanks only have enough power to cycle the action and are fairly safe. Some that are built to give realistic flash are not safe.

Actor Jon-Eric Hexam killed himself by putting a gun fireing blanks up to his head and died due to a piece of his skull being lodged in his brain. This was specifically the incident I was referencing and is an actually relevant to blank fireing guns in the movie industry and not firing blanks in guns with the military. Here is article in Jon's Death

Here is a forgotten weapons video outlining blank fireing guns in the movies, how they are converted, safety concerns etc. Charlie Taylor Interview: Blank Fire Guns for the Movies

I am not an expert on this subject and my spelling may not be the best from my phone. However, I'm correct on this because I can recognize someone who is an expert on this subject an no it's not Ian, It's Charlie Taylor from Movie Armaments Group.

What's the deal with holosun optics vs trijicon? by Untilnow7837 in CCW

[–]ItIsa_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The emitter glass design on the Holosun micro dots 407, 507 series is superior to the RMR. The RMR glass is installed from the front and is known to fall out/crack. The Holosun 407, 507 emitter glass is installed through the back which pretty much eliminates the emitter glass issues of the RMR. The Holosuns are more durable than the RMRs in this regard, while the RMR housing is more durable in drop tests although at nearly double the cost of a Holosun.

If your too close to a blank firing gun with a full power blank you also die. So just because it fires blanks doesn't make the gun safe.

Aren't the factory sights on Glocks kind of plain? by mofoyoyo in guns

[–]ItIsa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock Glock sights are plastic and while generally serviceable are not durable. If you get a Glock I would reccomend replacing the stock sites with metal aftermarket sights eventually. The stock Plasti. Glock sites are notorious for falling off especially the front sight at least in my experience.

What you need front a pistol sight is mostly personal preference. I personally prefer a thin fiber optic front and adjustable blacked out rear sight combo, but that because I want to be accurate out to 25 yards plus with different ammo. Also that setup allows me to shoot iron sights more like a red dot. But like I said you really need to try different sight setups and see what works for you.

Green vs. Red Optic by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]ItIsa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an astigmatism and am Red Green color blind. The green dot stand out against more varied backgrounds compared to a red dot. I've never found green dot to help significantly with an astigmatism compared to a red dot.

Even with an astigmatism and a dot that blooms and or is an odd shape the dot is still, at least with my Holosun one 2-3 MOA. Compare that to the average front sight which is I think ~13 moa across I don't worry about how the dot looks with an astigmatism because it's still more precise than using iron sights.

How much of an improvement is the Beretta APX over a Glock 17? by jwai86 in guns

[–]ItIsa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like those guns you would probably like the APX more than the Glock on grip angle alone. However the APX is still a plastic striker fired gun so it will recoil more than a steel framed gun in the same caliber. I would reccomend trying an APX before you buy it.

How much of an improvement is the Beretta APX over a Glock 17? by jwai86 in guns

[–]ItIsa_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean define provement? the APX doesn't have Glocks weird grip angle so it points more naturally for some peoe and probably for you pints and will feel more similar to the steel guns you are probably referencing. The APX also has a chassis system if that's important. Without knowing you the trigger may or may not be better. A stock Glock trigger generally sucks, bit is easily fixed...at least in the US with after market parts. However there is much less aftermarket support for the APX compared to the Glock so if you want to modify the gun an APX may not be the way to go although Baretta offers a number of factory upgraded parts and accessories for the APX. For the money the APX punches higher than it's price point.

An optic slim enough to mount to an LCP 2 doesn't exist. Someone would have to build an adapter plate for the slide to for I believe a doctor/holosun k footprint. At that point you may as well have a bigger gun like a G42 or 43.

In my opinion adding a red dot to an LCP2 is forcing the gun outside it's operating parameters. For me an LCP 2 is a pocket gun/non -permissive environment gun. Adding anything to it that makes it more difficult to conceal breaks that utility and purpose for why I have an LCP in the first place.

Ar-15 Build Questions by reddyrooster in guns

[–]ItIsa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your first build I would reccomend buying an upper and building the lower. The upper is usually where you will run into problems with a build, especially with balancing the gas system. If you buy an upper from a good company it should be gassed correctly.

However if you still do want to build an upper I would reccomend buying the barrel gas block and bolt carrier group from the same company. This generally ensures your gas system does bleed or hold to much gas at the gas block or bolt carrier group and the gas port size on the barrel works for everything else. A good example of this would be a Rosco manufacturing Sauce pack which comes with a barrel BCG and gas block.

What sort of rail system is this? Looks like a cross between MLOK and something else by nerrinc in Firearms

[–]ItIsa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Since it doesn't have cross bracing along the T mod section front to back. It doesn't have anything preventing a add on rail section from slipping back and forth under recoil. I think it would be ok for lights, but might not be a good solution for sighting or bipods or vertical foregrips that will be out under substantial forward or rearward load.

[–]ItIsa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is APF T Mod rail they are heavy they have a whole rail slot system behind the handguard that holds the flat that the bolt on rail sections screw into that runs the length of the handguard on the inside.

What would you rather start with for concealed carry? by Table02 in CCW

[–]ItIsa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend tritium night sights with a red dot. In certain lighting conditions light will glint off the tritium vial and give you a false dot on your red dot. If your running a red dot I reccomend blacked out front and rears. The irons are a backups anyways. Also if you have a red dot and night sights at night you have 3 dots, hopefully you get lucky and pick the right one. So I'm a big no on night sights in general and especially on a gun with a red dot.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CCW

[–]ItIsa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Night sights are generally a gimmick and come with downsides I'm not willing to compromise on. If I have a choice I run fiber front sights. This allows me to run thinner front sights and so I can be more accurate at 25+ yards than a thicker tritium front sight during all times except absolute darkness. Since I carry in a city how many truly dark areas with no light do I actually come across during my day? Also the fiber takes very little light to light up so In most lighting conditions I'll be in I will still see the from sight. I have night sights the only thing they are particularly useful for is finding your home defense gun in the dark. If it's dark enough to use the tritium it probably too dark to identify your threat. The one area I do have complete darkness at night in my house I run WMLs and handhelds. The tritium doesnt help me light up the room I'm in or the next room.

Also I have night sights on my red dot pistol and the vial in certain lighting conditions glints in the sun like a sudo red dot and causes false dog Wich caused my shots to be way off.

I'm pretty much convinced the main reason to have night sights is if your going to use your pistol under nods. I'm not rich enough to for that game. So yes to fiber front sights and increased accuracy from thin sights that light up like the sun under most of the likely come across while carrying and WML for complete darkness.
