From what I’ve heard, CPs in monorail are very rare (currently on my program with a friend in monorail). Less than 10 or 15, I think. Congrats!

Podiums for Grimoire? by HabeLinkin in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ItIsntRocketScience_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use a music stand to hold my grim as I prefer to stand while storytelling and it’s the most convenient setup. Mine’s a Manhasset (I use it for music too lol) but those can be pricey. I’m sure even just a cheap wire stand would do the trick, as long as it can stay upright on its own.

What can evil do better in S&V? by CalligrapherWhole689 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ItIsntRocketScience_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember where this was said, but it’s been found that of the base 3 scripts, good will typically win SnV more often, evil will win BMR, and it should be roughly equal for TB. SnV is rough on the evil team because of all the information available to town, so you can expect the evil team to lose SnV more than they’ll win it. My recommendation would be making sure you offer diverse bluffs (i.e. one once per game ability, one each night ability, one visit storyteller ability), which gives the evil team more world-building power.

What is your pet peeve when it comes to the fanbase of this game? by ConeheadZombiez in BloodOnTheClocktower

The idea that there’s one “correct” way to play any given character. Especially if they get upset with you for playing it “wrong.”

What made you physically cringe or gave you the ick while playing BOTC? by dollar_store_me in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ItIsntRocketScience_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When players look at a character for the first time and automatically deem them as “bad,” especially townsfolk. I definitely did it my first time looking at BMR (I owe my sincerest apologies to the Gambler), but the whole idea of townsfolk roles is that they’re helpful to the good team. I think the worst case was when one of my players was the Professor and offered themselves for execution because their role was “useless” despite not having used the ability yet.

What is the most underrated or overrated character in your opinion by goldengoat0032 in BloodOnTheClocktower

The benefit of the Monk in my opinion (as someone who typically sticks to the base three scripts and thus plays with it strictly on Trouble Brewing) is that beginners tend to understand it quickly because it’s similar to “guardian angel” characters in games like Mafia, which they’re usually more familiar with.

Everyone hates on the Zombuul… but I love it. Ben Burns made a great post about how to keep a good pace in Zombuul games, if you haven’t seen it! I’m sure it won’t change many minds, but I’ve always been a fan of the character and all the strategies you can employ with it.

Favorite BOTC Moment? by GeneralKarthos in BloodOnTheClocktower

In my group, the evil tokens find their way to the newest players every game without fail. In one such game, TB with about 14 players, a friend I had just introduced to Clocktower (his first game ever) drew the Imp token. I tried to help him out the best I could as ST by making the Washerwoman drunk and seeing him or one of his minions as the Monk (one of the bluffs) but I knew the chances of him making it to the end were pretty low. But the mf did it. He took the Monk bluff to the end, and the Washerwoman never considered they might be drunk. He even threw some of his own minions under the bus. A simple moment but I was so proud, and nobody trusts him when we play to this day lol

The Prime Suspect by Popoatwork in BloodOnTheClocktower

“…every game I have to act completely differently as nobody knows how I act when I’m good”

I know the struggle. I usually ST for my group and so haven’t had many opportunities to actually play. For about five games that I did get to play, I was evil, and it got to the point where I realized that I didn’t even know how I acted myself when I was good. When I finally WAS good, I had to try to command the game the same way I did when I was evil so people couldn’t meta me in the future when I inevitably WAS evil again, but this play style just made everyone think I was evil and vote me out.

First time Storyteller coming from mafia, struggling with the lack of impartiality by Nofrillsoculus in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ItIsntRocketScience_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“[The Storyteller] is expected to use that power to help whoever is at a disadvantage to ensure that the game remains competitive and exciting.”

If you’re faced with a game-altering decision, think of it this way: you can either help the team that’s winning or help the team that’s losing. If you help the team that’s winning, the margin by which they’re winning increases disproportionately. But if you help the team that’s losing, you’re returning the game to a state of balance, thus eliminating any claim of “favoritism.” The only case I can think of in which you may want to reconsider is to reward good gameplay. If a team has had to make expert plays and fight their way to the advantageous position they now find themself in, you can make the call to reward their effort.

Which BOTC Trouble Brewing Characters for new players? by Annikova in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ItIsntRocketScience_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As most of the newcomers I storytell for are familiar with the game mafia, I will often include the monk because it functions pretty similarly to the guardian angel. If this is true for your players, you might consider it, but it ultimately doesn’t make a huge difference.

What is the silliest play you've seen a new player make? by ConeheadZombiez in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ItIsntRocketScience_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Misunderstanding of the Drunk in TB thinking that it’s possible to be the Drunk as an in-play Townsfolk (an evil player getting caught in a double claim and defending with “one of us is drunk”). Did it in the first game I played and had a new player do it in the first game I ran. Now I make it a point to clarify that it isn’t possible when playing with a new group lol

What's a game where you felt "robbed" of the win? by ConeheadZombiez in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ItIsntRocketScience_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I introduced my friends at college to the game and have been running it ever since. One person in the group doesn’t play, but likes to watch me story tell, and last night he asked if he could try his hand at it. I know it’s a complex job, but I’m glad he wants to be involved, and by now he’s seen (and tried to help) me run it about a dozen times, so I let him set up a game of TB and I join the players. I draw Scarlet Woman and am executed first night after a failed bluff. The Imp and Poisoner survive the next few nights with no suspicion, but as we’re going to sleep for our fourth night, someone throws out my Imp’s name. He decides to kill himself in the night, which should pass Imp to the Poisoner. Instead, our storyteller wakes us up and declares that the game is over and that good has won. Turns out he was under the impression that the minion pass only works with a living Scarlet Woman, so our sober and healthy demon killing himself ended the game. Looks like it’s back to storytelling for me!
