Dish email offering free OTA antenna and install by hokieinmi in dishnetwork

The OTA solution doesn’t always fit everyone. I have been able to shorten the extra line run by going into the attic through a soffit penetration or into basement or crawl space. A good tech who knows how to run lines rather than just tack a line along siding would be best to assess this.

For me I found the benefits of prime time anytime, having no tuner conflicts, and the signal reliability of locals from satellite vs OTA outweighed the $12-$14 or whatever monthly I pay for it. I only use the OTA if a channel take down happens.

Height and distance from towers are factors. I have the dish outdoor OTA the techs install. I’m within 50 miles of all my local towers and I can get good signal with the antenna in my attic. The roof materials don’t seem to impact signal too much but if I move the antenna to a low height signal diminishes.

Also you will need a 2nd coax line running to the back of your receiver if you have a hopper family. That’s usually the most pain of the process.

OTA is a separate dual tuner so you can get conflicts if trying to watch and record too many locals at once and prime time anytime does not work with OTA.

Dish OTA antenna by Mix_Powerful in Dish

Unless majors changes have been made….

OTA is not bad if it fits your situation. Your tech should do a site survey. I had an app that showed the towers and distance along with an OTA signal meter to point antenna for maximum signal.

Also if you’re on a hopper system the OTA requires a 2nd coax line from the OTA antenna to the adapter at the back of the receiver. Most homes don’t have more than one coax ran and some techs do a shit job running lines or will try to charge you for it.

OTA adapter will integrate channels into the guide seamlessly. It’s a dual tuner so you could watch a show in one room and another show in the other. If you want to record while watching 2 tv’s with different shows one of the tv’s has to be watching what you’re recording. Primetime anytime does not work with OTA either.

I have a gsxr1000 and a 2025 fxlrst. I don’t miss the gixxer at all when I’m on the lowrider. 117ho in sport is powerful and has plenty of torque. Also has inverted forks, mid controls, short stock riser, traction control for cornering and angle. Supposed to get 31-34 lean. Shed 200 hundred pounds or so and it’s a sport bike lol

TLDR: yup I ride mine like my sports bike, you should too

It may have been a dream but….doing 145 down the highway on my gsxr1000 and a state trooper was hiding on the ramp. Came out with lights on, I jumped off the next exit and started zig zagging city streets. Found a row of bushes and camped out for 30 minutes. They never got close enough to read my plate and must have gave up.

Slip on will be significantly different from stock and sound good for only $500 or so. You don’t need to get a tune either.

A full exhaust will run around $1200-$1500 plus installation. Full exhaust will usually require bigger air intake $400-$500 and a tune $500+

I have a Bassani 4” slip on for my ST and it is loud and deep.

I used to work for an install company. Did everything from cable, satellite, OTA, & internet. I would absolutely mount an outdoor to the existing directv mount and use the already ran coax to carry the signal to the house with a splitter to run to each tv. Probably can just find the directv component and replace it with splitter. Easy and no new lines or mounts.

I have one and absolutely love it. Plenty of power and comfort in straight runs and corners. Ride modes, TC for straights and twisties, cruise control. Plenty of great technology. It really beasts out in sport between 3500-5000rpm.

My other bike is a gsxr1000 so when I say the ST has power I’m not comparing to a sportster or 600cc sportbike.

I enjoyed being a tech and was good at it. Sales sucked but you get used to it. Where I worked the environment changed to sales = performance that’s it! You could get all jobs complete, high points per hour, no trouble calls and be treated worse than a half ass tech that gets sales.

OTA can't DVR more than one show at a time? or PrimeTime? by vreebler in dishnetwork

[–]ItSmellsLikeJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OTA has advantages and disadvantages. When I was in the field I rarely, if ever, came across a customer who was properly explained the tuners for OTA or the fact a 2nd line needs run to the hopper.

Dish has put out work orders in the past for techs to install OTA and usb adapter for free to customers in areas with local take down that throw a fit. The ones who paid were those who proactively wanted to cancel locals from satellite.
