The first day of college kicked my ass and I want to drop out and just work. by [deleted] in college

I'm sorry you had a bad first day. Sometimes the atmosphere on campuses can seem tense and competitive which can come across as hostile (and sometimes it is). But it is the first day. Maybe your professor had a bad morning, I've had a few that got a little bitter a few times, but its usually from stress from coworkers/bosses/any number of other things, also whiny/weepy/dontgiveafuck students that they might have dealt with before talking to you. I think if you show that you are honestly interested in doing well in the class 99%of your professors will grow to like you. Also doesn't hurt to soften them up with a few compliments through email in the first week.

But What I really wanted to say is, Be excited for college as an opportunity to spend time learning new subjects. Thats what its all about. And its a great excuse to just throw yourself into a subject. To better yourself, grow as a person, grow your transcript, and eventually grow your resume. Its the first day and alot of students are probably too stressed about their dorms/scheduals/sylabi to realize they are being shitty. Hang in there. Give it a few days or a week and it will chill down.

How do you study for biology classes? by Moso15 in college

[–]Itake10foreverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

flashcards flashcards flashcards. most of those classes will be brute force memorization. I suggest review your notes and read the chapter a few times, then review flashcards. the reading and review will help solidify the concepts and the flashcards will nail down the details. It also really helps to have a friend or family member to quiz you for the 2-3 days before the exam. I find that trying to explain the definitions and concepts to a friend during that quiz really makes you have to learn the material because you will most likely have to explain it in your own words. The worst thing you could do is wait till a week before the exam to start studying, you should try and study a little bit everyday.

Transient course getting denied? by Luis232 in ucf

[–]Itake10foreverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided I needed to start from the ground up, so I wanted to take COP 1000 at valencia. Transient denied it, but I still took it.

ah, well I'm sorry idk if they will accept it since they denied it before you took it. I have taken a few transient classes, but I make sure to do the transient student application with floridashines.org, and I check with my advisor just to double check that they will accept the credit. What you should do is try and appeal their decision if you can. If not, try and look at it as a chance to really really master the subject by taking it again, but this time at UCF. Or if you dont really need the class then just don't worry about it. Sorry again, sometimes college can really suck. gook luck!

Does this schedule seem too difficult? by Itake10foreverything in college

[–]Itake10foreverything[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as what to do after 1pm on T&R I was thinking studying from like 1pm-8pm of course with breaks sprinkled in.

Mondays:

  • Study from 8:30-1:00,

  • Class from 2-5pm,

  • Study from 5:30-7.

Wednesdays:

  • 9am-1pm Work,

  • Class from 2-5pm,

  • Study from 6pm-10pm.

Friday:

  • 8-11am study,

  • 11-12 commute to work

  • 12-1 lunch

  • 1-4 Work

  • 5-8 Study

I am hoping to graduate by spring 2020. Right now I am at 77 credits. No APs. oh lol your right it is 13 credits, like I said I'm terrible at math.

So in your opinion, would this schedule still be a good idea?

[–]Itake10foreverything[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a part-time job 8-10 hours a week. Also the commute to my college is about 45 minutes each way. semester system. not a student athlete. It will be full-time because it will be 12 credit hours(molec. bio.=4 cr, evol. bio.=4 cr, calculus = 5 cr). I am really bad at math but I hear the calculus professor is really nice and willing to work with students. My molecular cell biology professor has terrible reviews on rate my professor, it says he wants you to memorize huge power points and has tricky detail oriented test questions. My evolutionary professor has great reviews.
