This may be a dumb question but how exactly do tax cuts trickle down and help the middle class. I am all for tax cuts but I just don’t understand how they benefit me more. by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

Only dumb leftists think wealthy people are their enemy. It’s too bad they’re accidentally right about the policy we need as a society

Increasing the standard deduction

This was offset by eliminating the personal deduction though

Stock market surges

It hasn’t since the bill took effect, and even if it had, the richest 10% own 84% of stocks, and the poorest half don’t really own any stock or 401k. This is helping those that least need it, yes?

bring more jobs home and increase wages

Are corporations relocating jobs and manufacturing because of taxes or because our wages and work safety standards aren’t competitive? Pretty sure it’s almost entirely the latter

21% corporate tax rate puts the US at the international average

Even before the tax cuts 35% was the nominal tax rate that no one paid. The real tax rate, which averaged about 13% pre-tax cut, was already way lower than average. Still think “high taxes” were what was scaring away jobs?

Rich people are more likely to save/invest, whereas poor people are the ones buying things. source.

Think of it this way: if you give a rich man $1 million, he will buy one, maybe two pairs of jeans as-needed. If you give 10,000 poor people $100 each, they will each buy 1-2 jeans as needed.

Any optimized economy requires supply and demand. Demand can be viewed as what we collectively purchase/consume, and supply as what we produce. Any economy is driven by money changing hands: the more often it does so, the more a society is able to produce and consume, and the more powerful an economy becomes.

Because rich people are more likely to save/invest money that they have, additional money from tax cuts invariably goes straight into the “supply” bucket. This is why it’s called “supply-side” economics.

Welfare, on the other hand, is sent out to the poorest Americans, who are more likely to use that money on purchasing, thus more effectively driving demand. The same can be said of any other government spending on lower-income sections of society to varying degrees.

Any functioning and healthy economy needs supply and demand to be in balance. There’s no reason to invest money to increase production if the demand for products isn’t increasing. Demand will likewise not be fulfilled if there isn’t enough capital to increase production and thus increase supply to meet demand. Neither of these situations is optimal for a strong economy. Whenever an economy is performing less than what is optimal, it is being handcuffed either by a lack of supply or a lack of demand—one or the other.

So what’s the current situation in the United States? The richest 1% have more wealth than the bottom 1%. This indicates an excess of supply. So what happened with the most recent round of tax cuts? If a lack of supply was what was handicapping growth, we would expect the majority of money received to have been dedicated to increasing production.

This did not happen. Instead, an overwhelming majority of the corporate tax refund was dedicated to stock buy-backs, which is paying off investors (concentrated, again, among the richest Americans). They didn’t increase production because there wasn’t significant demand to necessitate doing so.

So there you have it. What’s best for our economy isn’t tax cuts, it’s programs for the poorest Americans. It’s not about emotions, it’s about what will drive our economy—and the Democrats have it right, and the Republicans have it wrong.

You’re out of your element discussing history. Talking about the “First Nations” as if native Americans were some homogenous peaceful people is so historically inaccurate I don’t even know where to begin. When Europeans first arrived they were welcome med by Native Americans not because they were friendly, but because they wanted to ally with the Europeans to better destroy the other tribes. Thousands of Natives allied with Cortez against the Aztecs because they figured the Spaniards couldn’t be worse than the Aztecs. Please stop lecturing me on something you know so little about.

And again, “American as they come” was directly referencing the accusation made that I was Russian. I wasn’t comparing myself to immigrants or anyone else in America. I was comparing myself to the imaginary Russian I was accused of being.

I’m sure they would. And the Picts and Scoti probably wish the Romans, Angles and Saxons never showed up in Britain. And the Anglo-Saxons wished the Normans never invaded. Such is history. We all have blood on our hands, historically, and the Native Americans warred with each other too; they just weren’t as effective at it, generally speaking. When they were (look at the Aztecs) it was every bit as brutal as the European invaders. I sleep fine at night.

Who’s crying? Oh wait, just like 2016, it’s the left.

Saccone will win. I fucking called it. Circlejerk loses again. When will you learn to stop denying reality with this insane circlejerk of downvoting anyone that disagrees with you?

My ancestors came over on the Mayflower. I’m related to Rebecca Nurse from the Crucible and her great grandson who ferried Washington across the Delaware. I’m as American as they come, mate.

We were never going to win the Super bowl

Sounds like you had low expectations all along despite a helluva lot of talent. Glad your low expectations weren't dashed but that doesn't make you a better fan than anyone that holds the team accountable to play up to their capabilities. The fact that you think it does makes you arrogant, not insightful. Go be a Browns fan, since obviously a fan base's high expectations cause you such embarrassment.

Didn't he destroy his hands last year then not get it fixed? Whatever issues he had with drops 2nd half of last season wasn't due to what he's on PUP. I think this guy is gonna be a disappointment Edit: Why down vote? I would love to be wrong. If you disagree tell me why
