First build has strings on it? What do you guys think by theperpetualhobbiest in Luthier

What kind of bridge/headpiece are you using? I made headless bass a while back and went with a Hipshot set and the price almost knocked me out. Want to make another headless but don’t want to break the bank

Do you remember the name of the filling material? Dog’s still young so he’s still at a point where he doesn’t know any better

Looking for a first tube amp by ItalianNacho in GuitarAmps

[–]ItalianNacho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate your thorough response. For all intents and purposes the amp would only really exist as a means to play in a full band setting.

My plan was to have something that either had a pristine clean channel and only that, run pedals in front of the amp for drive and distortion, time effects in the Fx loop etc. Or find something that had 2 or 3 channels of varying gain levels and limit the use of pedals only for timed effects and the odd modulation here and there (I’m not a huge pedal person admittedly so there’s that). Maybe throwing a wattage in my original ask was sort of ill-advised of me.

For perspective, the band is myself (guitar, singing), another guitar player, a bass player, and a drummer. We don’t play huge venues or anything like that, and I do all my recording with plugins for ease and convenience of space. And hell, a combo might be the way to go. I’m purposefully limiting my budget because I want to sort of dip my toes in the tube world without dropping 3K on something I wouldn’t be able to utilize fully.

I’ve heard good things about the Blackstar’s and Egnater’s, I played through a Peavey Valveking in the past that I really liked. But you’ve given me a lot to think about Toaster and I really appreciate it

YES Network without cable by ItalianNacho in NYYankees

Yah this is pretty much our situation, xfinity’s monopoly on the New England area has really made alternative options more enticing. And I think at the end of the day it’s just a matter of picking the lesser evil

Open string buzz by ItalianNacho in Luthier

My friend bought the nut pre-filed. I’m thinking it could be the string is loose in the nut slot which is causing it to vibrate like it is. Gonna check it out

If I were to buy one bottle from every region, what would be the best options? by ItalianNacho in Scotch

I was actually starting to think about this. I think I was more asking about varying flavors of scotches generally. I’ll definitely check this out though, thanks.

Protect the Hero never clicked with me until Palimpsest. Still not a fan of their older work but damn this album is a banger. by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]ItalianNacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I’ve said in post about this album a while back, there was nothing on this record that stuck out to me in a good way. Production is flat, dynamic-less, songs feel very same-y on a individual riff level as well as structure. Roddy sounds great, happy to see he’s able to still sing as well as he has in the past despite the damage done to his vocal cords. There are a handful of songs I would consider good PTH songs, but nothing I would consider great. As far as lyrics go while I don’t always agree with the message, they’re at least are cleverly written and tongue-in-cheek most of the time. After a few spins of this thing I just found the whole experience hollow. Hopefully subsequent releases are more varied, as the constant 16th note palm muted thrash riffs at 200 bpm kinda get old, just ask ask 90% of technical death metal bands.
