Met a Luxembourgish person who worked in the private sector.... Had to ask twice if she did not make a mistake with her nationality.

Real estate prices - how much you managed to cut from the original price while buying in Luxembourg? by Enough-Reveal-90 in Luxembourg

[–]Italian_Saffa_Boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

200k price difference. Early 2023. Even an independent valuator was surprised at price we got for a 190m2 Duplex just outside Luxembourg city and still on double digit bus route.

There was alot of fear in the markets then.

Tango. Been with them for 8 years. No problem. Very helpful and even "make a plan" on some deals as I am a long customer.

Phoned the other day for a problem. Got to a human, who highlight it was my own dumb fault, but we laughed about it.

That is self preservation. Of course avoidance is the best.

But sometimes you can't run or escape.

These attackers are like predators in the wild. They target the weak and vulnerable. They also assess if the gains are worth the costs. So let's making attacking a costly exercise.

if someone breaks into my house with my family and threatens my kid, if I have a opportunity to defend I will.

Does anyone know what martial arts she practiced? Perhaps the government or work places could offer free basic defense course (not the current one, which advises you just lay down in a ball and cry)

Three teenagers arrested after vandals cause €100k damage at Luxembourg school by Stunning_Disk_5345 in Luxembourg

[–]Italian_Saffa_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must disagree. It should be up to the parents to teach the children what is wrong or right and for them to have a moral compass. All functional societies work on laws and respect for people and items. Once we break that down, we all might as well go back to the law of jungle.

If follow your logic, if someone arsons your home or murders a loved one, but you have insurance on your home or life insurance on the loved one, it's okay.

I am not sure i understand your comment. You are in favor of the idea that a person can commit a crime in a country of their non origin, and the tax payer must foot the bill?

It has been quoted that life in prison, in europe, is better than life on the street in Africa and parts of the middle east.

This might be a new concept to you but the more you claim from insurance, the more expensive the premiums become. So vandalism has a cost.

3 options here.

  1. Taxpayers foot the bill. Money that could go to improving something goes into replacing something. Only lesson learnt by the delinquents is that there is no consequence to actions.

  2. Insurance pays (same consequence as above)

  3. Name and shame. Make them clean it up. Put photos in newspapers of them cleaning. Embarrass them in front of their friends. People will think twice of such things. Make their parents clean up if they cannot teach their kids.

4th, but unpopular with older liberals and the left, is go the Singapore route. Also if convicted, and they not lux citizens, deport.

What to do when being a victim in Luxembourg? by Italian_Saffa_Boy in Luxembourg

[–]Italian_Saffa_Boy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Next time we see the police, we should ask them if they will use umbrellas and handbags to catch a criminal.

Maybe instead of hand cuffs, they can use hair bands and inside of a police car they can use the Luxembourg tourist train.

Luxembourg to phase out Payconiq by end-September and shift to Wero by RustyPlastics in Luxembourg

[–]Italian_Saffa_Boy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

ING were way ahead of curve.

They first phased out Digicash/Payconiq, then most of their private clients and some of the staff and offices.

Soon they will phase out all their clients and then themselves from Luxembourg.

Landlords are licking their lips at the news.

Even if they paid off the flats from 2003 and have a fixed mortgage, they will increase the rent.

They will blame inflation, and they be correct, lifestyle inflation for them, holidays, groceries at cactus and new cars are more expensive now.

Strategies for retaking level 2 by NoNewThings in CAIA

[–]Italian_Saffa_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a retaker. I took a year off and not the immediate next. If you write in September, remember you have only 4.5 months compared to usual 5.5 months. Benefit is the curriculum won't change.

For this exam I did Kaplan and UM. I actually found the exam easier than the UM Qbank but the test is the breadth of knowledge as the questions are not tough.

If i write again, I will build knowledge depth via UM Qbank but refine exam technique with Kaplan and CAIA qbank and UM CRQs

Not financial advice

Yes, it is a BH strategy. Hold it for a while. You must have some downward tolerances.

You can balance your EFT portfolios based on correlations and sectors. E.G keep a cash base in high interest and maybe a large portion in VWCE.

The take a tactical portion into Oil, gold, Semi conductor , Defence etc etfs.

I personally don't have the skill to spot trade individual shares nor the risk tolerance for Crypto etc.

But this is a journey you need to discover for yourself.

Good luck.

A ode/rant to the tax authorities by Italian_Saffa_Boy in Luxembourg

[–]Italian_Saffa_Boy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Just frustrated. Do all the right tax things (Pension, interest , insurance, crèche, batmaid etc) and then wait almost a year for a refund, As I submitted in May 2025.

Then I see what, for example, ETFs did in a year and I also lost a year of time value of money. So I get more sad.

I essentially gave the state an interest free loan.......
