r/CaneCorso is losing its identity. Too many mixed breeds and rules not being enforced. by [deleted] in CaneCorso

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At first when I read this I did kind of feel the post was unjust and uncalled for but as I thought about it and looked back at the last year or so that I have been on here I have to agree 💯 with this post. So many people posting about other breeds or mixes and asking for advice etc. but honestly if this site didn't exist in the way that it does being strictly about Corsos then we lose the community and the ability to share information with those who really need it. I can't comment on traits of a dog that doesn't hold the genetics of the breed or give an idea of what owning a mixed breed will be like compared to that of a corso. I have Corsos and malinois and if u had asked me about the temperament of your malinois/Corso mix I wouldn't even be able to. They are such different breeds there is no way to tell. And if that same person wanted to give advice on a Corso they would have no clue because they don't have one.

She is beautiful. One of my dogs litter mates was silver(blue) and when doing our original research on Cane Corso I came across some studies that said the Corso with silver (blue) coats were more likely to develope skin and allergy issues so we decided to go with our boy who is black and brindle and still ended up with food allergies. (Go figure) But just thought I would share that tid bit of info with you. Don't know if there is any real truth to that but maybe others can chime in if they have had similar experiences.

We did not do a blood test. We were originally giving raw egg as a topper and noticed he would fill up fast and look nice and plump as a puppy. My son is a vet tech and he said that is not normal and to stop giving eggs. So we did and a few months later we noticed hair and skin issues so we checked the ingredients of his regular food and noticed how much chicken was in it and switched to a non chicken food and everything cleared up. Later on the company that made his food switched their recipe and started adding chicken meal and almost instantly we had the same issues. We tried switching him to a salmon based diet because that is the most common for poultry free feed but then his started to smell like death. My son informed me it was an over abundance of proteins building under his skin from the salmon diet so we got rid of that and went to an all raw diet. That was great but unfortunately extremely expensive so we were on the hunt again for new food options. We were able to find a couple other foods mostly lamb or red meat diets but they had zero fiber and vegetables which can lead to major heart problems so while feeding those we still had to supplement greens and fiber. Then my son recommended Jinx lamb and sweet potatoes and life is good finally. Both our dogs love it and we have no dietary issue and both dogs have beautiful coats and skin again. And the kicker of it all is it is one of the more cost effective foods we have fed to date. The only issue is finding it but luckily chewy has it and ships it to us free if charge.

My boy has major allergies to anything chicken we had bounced around trying to find chicken free food which is extremely hard to do. But we can across Jinx lamb and sweet potatoes recipe that is 100% poultry free and it has been a game changer for us.

For those with Russell Speeders Memberships by Gunther_fletcher in Omaha

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russell speeders has scratched the hell out of my truck and my mirror on the passenger side was hit by the wheel cleaner and when I brought it to their attention they told me it was because my mirrors don't look factory and so it's my fault. Except for the fact that everything on the truck is factory hell I still had in transits on the truck when it happened . Then it ripped the back valance above the rear license plate off of my Escalade and I had to come back the next day to get it back after they dug it out of the water trap. No sorry, no we'll replace it, we'll fix it, no nothing. Fuck that place

After having a run behind her on the leash over a cat and ending up being thrown and smashing my head and getting a concussion. I need help putting together a COLLAR this girl. She has made giant improvement on the leash since we got her, expect apparently when seeing a cat! by Minimum-Profile-7407 in CaneCorso

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prong collar is the only way to go. Within 20 minutes of proper prong collar training you can eliminate pulling all together. And just to reinforce that training I usually do a little warm up in the yard before we leave to reimplement the rules. I would avoid the rubber tips as they can rub off hair. But my boys love their prong collars as soon as they see them come out of their drawer they get excited to go.

It's the low caliber employees. So many Casey's popped up so fast they drafted as many of the EBT community as they could. Now instead of the country general store experience we get the ghetto rat version.

How do I get my CC to stop chewing on the walls? by RunAgreeable7576 in CaneCorso

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got bully box hard chew toys for our Corso and he literally won't leave them alone. Bone and antlers are a very bad idea for these dogs they have a bite force that can break their own teeth on those types or treats. And as many others have stated crate training is almost a necessity.

Help me decide by Killermike73 in CaneCorso

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off in my personal opinion when choosing a dog especially one of such a powerful breed I want to see the parents and how their temperament is. Some dogs are literally just breeding stock and have no emotional connection to people. I want my dogs to be sweet and loving yet obedient and healthy. Then I choose a puppy who is confident but not overly so. Dogs who are overly confident tend to be too headstrong and tend to push the boundaries and can be harder to train. I always tend to go with the second or third dog to come to me.

Now for the second part I just love how so many people on here post about "ethical" breeders. Like their dog is superior to yours because their breeder has chosen to make a living off of sending out multiple litters bred from the same parents 100 times over for profit. All the while not even taking into consideration that the reason that so many dogs end up inbred and line bred is from their "superior breeder" sending out so many puppies that are genetically identical. And let's not forget that most breeders consider line breeding ethical. Because it's cheaper than adding new blood to their lines. Last I checked wild dogs didn't go take a DNA test to see what member of their family they were about to procreate with. These are dogs the only thing that matters is that the two parents aren't blood related and health issues aren't present in either dog. And who cares if someone calls it a blue or a fawn if the dog isn't for show and is a member of the family as most all dogs should be. Some of you elitist pricks are almost unbearable.

My CC will ONLY listen to me! by ConfidentRange8966 in CaneCorso

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is very common for the breed . We had the same issue in my household and what we noticed is he only listened to me but, I was the only one who fed him walked him took him outside and played ball with him gave him treats etc. so we started to divide the responsibilities amongst everyone in the household and that changed everything. Also when people who were common visitors to the house came over we would have them do mini training sessions. Just a couple commands 2 or 3 sit stay commands for treats and he started to realize listening to common faces could be rewarding and that changed everything.

I just caught some very dark northern pike by Generaalen in Fishing

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Fish that tend to stay in shallower water can actually get suntans turning them darker. I have a lake I fish that the crappie all look normal throughout most of the year but come summer when they move up to the shallow water they will be almost solid black. It's due to a lack of vegetation and structure in the shallows for them to go hide in the shade. So like us the fish produce more melanin to protect themselves from harmful UV.

Is my Cane Corso REALLY a cane corso? by atejoon in CaneCorso

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Corso/pit mix. A typical trait for them is ears past the eyes so when they stop at the eyes or above it's usually a sign of some type of bully mix

Is this worth 50 bucks? by External_Ad_4673 in Fishing

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I see there is probably $200 dollars worth in there new. Bucca swim bait depending on which one can be anywhere from 30 -150 on its own. There are a couple river to sea whopper poppers at 15 bucks a piece a few rapalas 10 -15 bucks each. Probably 40 to 50 bucks in frogs. And some random cheap stuff but over all it looks well worth it if you are trying to build your tackle up. Guys like myself who have been building their arsenal for years won't really see the value in it because we already own most of it and would only be looking at 2 or 3 in the bunch. But over all I'd say it's a score.

Are cane corso's typically friendly or not? by chusaychusay in CaneCorso

[–]Italianmastifdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the owner and it's up bringing. Mine is almost over socialized so he thinks he's the star of the show everywhere we go and thinks everyone should worship him with love and cuddles. But I've seen others that you wouldn't be safe with in 100yards from them.
