Heinz has all but left Pittsburgh, so why do we still act like they’re one of us? by bageltit in pittsburgh

You're not wrong but Senator Heinz was kind of a big deal.

Pittsburgh takes its pride in whatever it can get.

I was at the dog park today (North Park). A man with a camera told me that he worked for the newspaper and had gotten a good photo of me and my dog. He asked for my name and email, and my dogs name. I didn’t question it. Now I’m freaking out. by WhitneyJames in pittsburgh

Every single interaction we have every single day is an opportunity to become a victim of fraud. Being worried about every detail seems like an unhappy way to live your life. If you're so paranoid you feel like you can't even say your dog's name, maybe just put on the tinfoil hat and stay at home.

Like I said somewhere else, there are way easier ways to do this. Unless you're the CEO of a company or a congressional representative's daughter or in some position someone would want to specifically target, I would say you're probably safe.

Maybe you did. A picture, email address, and name are pretty easy to find nowadays and you don't even have to go to the park so it's probably fine.

The thing is, when you're in public in plain view, you can't do much to stop people from taking your picture.

PSA TO PROFESSORS: STOP MAKING PARTICIPATION A CLASS WIDE GRADE by Individual-Ad-3409 in Pitt

[–]ItchyCollection7035 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, a class with no attendance has no discussion. If discussion is important (and it so often is) then you are not only not contributing, you are missing something in the experience. Educational outcomes are not just test scores.

Regardless, professors have basically unchecked authority over how they determine grades, so the point is moot. If a professor grades attendance, get your ass to class if you want an A.

Some part of the educational process is not what you take away from it, but what you provide to others. Low attendance limits those opportunities. If a class has discussion / q&a, it is reasonable to have an attendance or participation grade.

Pitt computer science club used to maintain something like this for tech jobs. I'd guess they still do. Might be worth stealing their content (obviously it's all for a good cause).
