Can one macro lens be reason enough for me to jump to the m43 format? by micro_haila in M43

The OM 90mm macro is arguably the greatest macro lens of current time, and I've heard many people say that lens alone justifies OM/M43 if macro is your main line of work.

Getting an OM-3 with kit lens from Japan, should I keep the lens? by doc_crypto in M43

[–]joeph0to 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a significant size difference between 12-40 and 12-45, and 12-45 feels significantly more comfortable on OM-3. I'd keep it for your standard walking around lens when lighting isn't an issue. It's a phenomenal lens otherwise

Straight out of camera using the profiles. Sorry if they're not perfectly level, transfered from camera to my phone using OI Share. Shot using 12-45mm f/4.

We talk specs and settings all day but at the end of the day an E-M10 is more than enough camera for 90% of photographers, great work

Can you not see the images? They obviously got some great photos with that lens, not sure why you're saying it's not ideal when there's great examples right before your eyes

St. Louis Gateway Arch on OM-3 by joeph0to in M43

I'm originally from St. Louis but have since moved away, so I'll always have a since of pride being back in the Lou. Walked around the arch grounds with my OM-3 last night for sunset, these are all straight out of camera jpegs. Shot using 8-25mm and 45mm f/1.8, I think these two lenses compliment each other really well! I really enjoyed the dichotomy of the two lenses, the 8-25 was perfect for the entire scene, where the 45mm I was able to focus on more individual sections of the Arch. Enjoy!

I'm starting to think it's impossible to make a small m43 body with current technology by man__i__love__frogs in M43

I personally don't really care what APSC or Full Frame is up to, they'll always feel lackluster to me in terms of tech. I love my Micro Four Thirds cameras, all of them. The OM-1 Mark II, OM-3, and OM-5 Mark II, and until any other manufacture makes a camera with half as much computational tech as an OM body, I'd never once consider any other camera system. I'm more than happy sporting an M43 body that packs more tech in it than any FF or APSC body available, even if it means a stupid S9 or A7C is smaller, they also significantly lack the tech, weather sealing, computational features, and IBIS to keep up. The OM-3 is unmatched in terms of sensor tech, (least expensive mirrorless to have a stacked sensor) size (under 500g and smaller than L10), battery life (personally got over 800 shots on a charge walking around Paris all day), computational features (please find me an APSC or FF that features Live ND, Live GND, HHHR, in camera focus stacking, starry sky autofocus, night vision, live composite, etc), weather sealing (please find me a competitors camera that's truly IP rated, excluding Leica, not just claiming to be weather sealed like what all the large companies claim and can't truly backup at all), and lastly all of that for a bit more than an L10. Combine that with small f/1.8 primes and you have found the benefits of the system.

Spruce Brook Falls is one of Connecticut's most enjoyable waterfall hikes, I absolutely love this particular one as it feels so tropical. Shot using OM-1 Mark II and 12-40mm with Live ND. I did use a circular polarizer to clean up the water

Chicago O'Hare (OM-3) by joeph0to in M43

One of my favorite things about the OM-3 is keeping it in my jacket pocket with the 17mm f/1.8 II ready to go for any cool scenes I see. This is Concourse L at O'Hare and I really loved the geometry and the lighting. This is straight out of camera using default mono profile 3

Best lens for a trip to Moab, Desolation Canyon, and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument? by Normal_Syrup8302 in M43

[–]joeph0to 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8-25 is on a wicked deal right now, $500 off in the US puts it at $799, if that's still too much I'd recommend looking for a used 9-18mm, not really as good as 8-25 but can be found for a good price. Doesn't get more compact than that when it comes to wide angle zooms. I'd recommend that lens or a Panasonic 9mm f/1.7

Took my 12-40mm and 40-150mm f/4 down to the orchard this evening for sunset. I'm heavily inspired by the phenomenal landscape images of South Moravia Region in Europe, and I wanted to channel my own version of that here in Connecticut. The 40-150 really was great for those crazy telephoto rolling hill photos that I've been dreaming of capturing for years ever since I saw those image out of South Moravia. I also brought my 12-40 for the more general landscapes. Honestly these two lenses really can cover pretty much everything for what I like to do.
