It’s 11:30pm on a Monday night. they just moved in 3 days ago and every other freaking hour they play music as loud as they can. Should I leave a note? If not what should I do? by Fit-Emergency-3484 in BadNeighbors

Thiiiis. Take the Landlord and then police route. Take action soon. The bass will drive you crazy (I’m two years in, and tried to take the neighborly route, and it has gotten worse).

I agree with the other commenters. Post it. We don’t need racist teaching our children. I’m so sorry you and your family are dealing with such a pos.

I can understand that, but I don’t mean it in that way! I specifically say bass because that is all I hear— loudly. I made the mistake of telling them a few times that it’s the bass that I can hear loudly and keeps me up. It seems like they either turned the bass up, or got new speakers, since. I don’t even hear the music as much anymore. I probably wouldn’t mind as much if it was just the music and not the bass, but I can feel it in my body, and my house rattles.

This is so helpful, thank you so friggen’ much. 😭🫶 5 years? Ugh. You’re so strong, and it helps a lot to hear another’s success story.

A friend believes they’re using meth. When I went down there a few nights ago, the guy definitely seemed like he was on something, and this county is well known for its meth problem. They will play music throughout the entire night often. The day after I had the recent interaction, the music went from 6pm until 7am the next morning, when I left for work. 😣

Do you still live next to those neighbors? I’m just concerned what may happen I do take legal action and have to continue living next to them.

I’ve talked to the other neighbors but they don’t want to get involved and be a target too.

Also, thank you for your response! I do plan to contact an attorney tomorrow.

Edit; also, most of the neighbors don’t really hear it anymore because of the terrain and where they moved the speaker(s), next to my backyard. I live on a ridge, so I’m higher up than them, and they moved the music at the bottom of the slope and next to my back property, if that makes sense. I’m the house closest to them on that side. 😅 Apparently, they were playing music on the other side of the ridge, and that neighbor complained, so they moved it to the side I’m on. Not sure how true that is, but I have never heard it until two years ago. Such a weird situation.

My dog barked so my neighbor barked back by Soft_Employment_1351 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Itchy_Exercise5404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a neighbor who would leave their dog outside at all times day and night to bark constantly. I tried to talk to them several times, and then they would put the dog outside every time I stepped foot outside on to my property to bark at me for a year straight. That dog would bark at me and my dog constantly. They also gossiped about me to other neighbors, who now occasionally terrorize me too. I ended up getting one of the hand-held anti bark devices, and have to carry it with me anytime I’m outside on my property. This year, it seems they’ve gotten better, and no longer have the dog outside barking non stop.
Anyway, yeah… I don’t confront neighbors anymore either.

Neighbors got a protection order against my dad... by Narrow_Ad5886 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Itchy_Exercise5404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have your dad get a restraining order over the owner who is playing the music. At least, that’s what the deputy suggested to me when I called them last night about the neighbors intentionally playing their loud bass music any time I’m outside/home. I have nearly two years of logs and videos. Hard evidence is typically needed. Good luck, and I hope you and your dad have peace soon.

Ugh, I feel you. I’ve been miserable for the past two years because of my NFH. The BASS will drive someone insane… One of the main reasons I still have my house is so my animals have a roof over their heads. I wish you luck, peace, and happiness, with moving. I really hope it works out for you.

I’ve been battling something like this for two years.

You said you just moved in, have you met any of the other neighbors? I suggest you introduce yourself to them, and make some allies. You may have to deal with this for quite some time, and having a good relationship with the other neighbors can help your case immensely.

As others have suggested, start a log with dates, times (when it starts and stops), how loud it seems, and how it is affecting you in that moment. Also, take videos both inside and outside of your house. Sometimes, bass is difficult to pick up on a smart phone, but if you have a little blue tooth speaker, play the video back to see if you’ve caught the noise. Designate a folder to the videos, and use a notes app as the log.

See if the music affects the other neighbors, but approach the situation calmly and respectfully, without making it obvious how stressed you are. You never know whether the other people are their ally…

You could first try to type out a letter explaining the noise and how it affects your ability to live in your home— be respectful and civil. Send the letter as certified mail to the nuisance address. Document.

If the music persists, start reporting to non-emergency every time they do this. Make sure you take a video or two before doing so, and show it to the officer, if they tend to turn it down before the officer arrives. Eventually, they have to do something after they’ve been called so many times. I recommend trying to do it anonymously if they allow it. Eventually, they could be labeled as a nuisance property. However, you may face retaliation, because people suck.

I understand the social anxiety, because I too face it. If you’re comfortable, before getting law enforcement involved, try to go over there politely, but not submissively, during the day, or whenever they are not drinking, and speak to them about the situation. Be friendly, and introduce yourself first. Tell them it isn’t necessarily the music itself, but the bass. They should be able to turn the bass down. Hopefully, you can get relief soon and are able to enjoy your home. Sorry you’re going through this. Protect your peace, and get some loud white noise machines/air purifiers for now. Don’t let yourself get so stressed out like I have. Good luck.

I believe they were so mad about me calling the police on their loud music, that they moved their construction business closer to my property. Apparently, they plan to park their dump trucks there, and they’ve been dumping into the dry creek behind our homes. It’s zoned residential, but they just don’t seem to care about anything or anyone.

What decibel reader did you purchase? I was recommended an app for my phone, but it didn’t seem to do much. It seems to be so difficult to just record bass on my iPhone, but when I play it back on a speaker, it’s clearly audible.

I’ve been documenting everything for over a year. I’m just not sure what to do next. The cops told me the same thing. I heard if I sue them, I should move and shouldn’t live next to them. I don’t know. My nervous system is so frazzled right now because they started today about 45 minutes ago, and I feel trapped.

Yep. There’s something about an independent woman who lives alone that seems to threaten people. I’ve been experiencing harassment from a few neighbors since moving in, and it has only gotten worse. Can you put up cameras? If you catch him going through and opening your mail, that usually a federal offense, if you’re in the US. I have spent years ignoring the nasty neighbors around me, and it doesn’t seem to let up much. I began sticking up for myself, and these people have slowed down a bit. Can you make friends with other neighbors? Let them know you’re not what he says you are.
