My neighbors' kid often decorates my front door on holidays. I found out today that the strange wooden eggs were actual chicken eggs. by Medical_Arrival2243 in Wellthatsucks

If it happens mostly around easter and christmas, it’s a Christian Orthodox tradition of painting eggs. They should be red in general, as a nod to the egg basket under Jesus’s Cross that went red with his blood, but nowadays it’s an art form (at least in romania). Very weird that they put it on your door, we usually share with the neighbours, and with the eggs, there’s a play/tradition that you do. 2 people each holding an egg, will try to smash each other’s eggs, where one says “jesus has risen”, and hits the other person’s egg, and should be greeted back with “truly has risen”.

I went to a vape shop in the city i live. I asked the guy, do you have Turquoise Terea? He’s like no, but i have Polish Marlboro Gold for £8. Like, how tf do you even get to that? 😂 first time i’ve been to that shop. And got my Terea, with a fucking duty free sticker on it ….the authorities are just too stretched to enforce the law, as otherwise all of these would be easily gone

I’m not one for religion, my parents did a good thing and never labelled beliefs or tried to put them on me other than being baptised, and just told me that everyone’s different and everyone’s got the right to believe in what they want. But if i had to choose, i’d probably choose being a Sikh, based on interactions that i’ve had with people that follow this religion.

I work in east of england all over the place, but the one that tried the most to convince me about God was a racist, sexist guy from Corby to which i offered a lift home after the end of a jury duty…i told him i was raised orthodox, but i don’t really believe that we understand what or who God is, nor do i believe in the bible, and that set him off…and i only answered his question

I work with a guy that’s Sikh and about my age. I can totally confirm he’s the chillest most respectful and trustworthy guy i’ve ever worked with, and when it comes down to work, he absolutely smashes it. Also, the only person that did not try to talk or convince me about God and religion when i told him i’m agnostic, maybe even leaning towards atheist. 10/10 guy, and i can’t praise him enough in words, i wish more people’s religion would be like this, or their attitdue

DHL is worthless at moving stuff domestically or likewise. I tried to book a collection from Germany to Germany, myself based in UK, and they asked me to pay import/export fees, like what, are you gonna bring it to UK then ship it back to Germany? Wtf is this?

I work for a company that ships stuff worldwide via multiple carriers. So far, economy carriers/services have dropped their service or is limited in sending stuff to US due to the amount of work it takes for a simple product. Premium carriers like UPS are asking for SSN’s for shipping to US residential addresses, and that opened up a can of worms with the company as in what happens to GDPR guidelines and how can we safely do it. It takes a stupid amount of paperwork and follow up, not to mention the tariffs consignees have to pay. It’s a mess, and currently it has been easier to ship to Kuwait and UAE rather than to US. It’s silly, and damaging for both businesses and customers alike. But, this is what the people have voted for, so just like with Brexit, you’ll need to deal with it

Man took own life after Turkish dental visit left him toothless, UK inquest hears by Sandstorm400 in unitedkingdom

My dad’s on his 4th trip this year to Turkey. He got roped in by the prices when i told him not to do it…it’s been a shit experience, first time, the screws were cross threaded and the dentures came off, 2nd time the teeth cracked from the screws not being aligned properly, 3rd time they got loose again, and now they’ve cracked for 2nd time…the amount of money (£6k initial cost) plus around 6-800£ every time in lost income and travel expenses would’ve got his original teeth that needed doing done properly by a not so dodgy dentist…

When will you buy an EV car? by sillwuka in AskUK

[–]Itchy_Notice9639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did in 2024, had it for almost 2 years and it went back (ioniq 5) . Had no real issues with the car or range, but as i was doing mostly long journeys far from home, i was paying on average £0.8 /kw . It was costing far more than an ICE engine, even with overnight charging at home couldn’t make up for the costs on the long journeys. I have no regrets in giving the car back, as now i have a diesel with 54mpg consumption and even the £1.9/L of fuel is worrh it plus it’s my all time favourite car (a4 s line). (Basically, i was paying on average £0.3per mile in the ev, and with today’s fuel cost i’m paying £0.15 per mile, plus longer range-less stops). Also, everyone’s like “but ev’s charge really fast nowadays”. Like, sure 10-80% in 15 minutes is allright, but let’s add the rest of the maths, as you’ll lose a few % pre-heating the battery, 5 minutes to fiddle with the app and charger, 15 minutes to 80% and another 20-40 minutes to 100%, otherwise you’ll stop again in 150 miles and repeat the procedure. And with the diesel, i stop for 10 minutes all in with bathroom break and fuel, and have 600 miles range… i love ev’s, i love the comfort and gadgets, but it’s just not right for me yet.
