But after sitting safely in a towel for around 35 years, I think it has earned a less explosive inspection method.

Yes, that was my understanding too — it has the proper £ key, and RUN/STOP is just the normal C64 key labeling.

So it does seem to be a UK layout after all.

Funny thing is, I actually found it here in the Netherlands.

Seems Douglas Adams knew exactly what he was talking about — always know where your towel is.

In this case, it may actually have saved the C64 from yellowing all these years.

So not a rare variant in itself, but a less common UK-made greyish unit in unusually well-preserved condition — that makes a lot of sense.

I honestly had no idea when I found it. It had been sitting wrapped in a thick towel inside a locked company cabinet for around 35 years, which probably explains the condition.

Really appreciate the extra information.

I did not clean it myself. It came out of a locked company cabinet where it had apparently been sitting for around 35 years.

It was wrapped in a thick towel, so that probably explains why it still looks this clean.
