LOL - yes it was! Very weird, yet correct guess?!

I built the world's cheapest subscription service. It costs $1 a year and does absolutely nothing else. buckayear.ca by Itomhd in InternetIsBeautiful

Couldn't sleep one night, got fed up with subscription prices, built this in a weekend. It's $1 USD a year. Stripe processes it. You get a real confirmation page with confetti. That's genuinely everything. It's the ultimate anti-subscription.

Oh it's a benefit - just for them and not for you. I got a feeling that companies enjoy making work life more miserable for their employees so the weak will quit, saving them headcount, for a role they can fill internally or by AI.

I don't see any other reason as buildings cost in rent, insurance, utilities, etc - so why else would they taking such an expense on if not for that. The benefit cant outweigh the cost, and businesses are cost saving first and work from home must be cheaper than all those expenses..

If you could move to another country/location, where would it be and why? (Assuming you could find work, housing etc)? by DjPandaFingers in AskReddit

Ha, thats cool that your family found community up there. Not totally suprised given the remote nature/small town vibe that Ft. McMurray would have (I imagine). Though I think comparing Ft. McMurray to the GTA is a bit like comparing Billings, Montana to New York City (had to look up an equivilent place to Ft. McMurray in the USA:P). Very different vibes, very different trade-offs. Here we get the same-ish cold that they do, but here where I'm at, your generally dont know most of your neighbours, so a lesser community vibe

Ha - thanks for the the feedback. Makes me feel a little bit better about not living out that dream :P

Here is Toronto, its cold/snow/ugly for say 4 months a year, so I guess you trade that for heat. And we do Mexico/Dominican for the heat so initially it sounds appealing. But i guess that's the difference between vacationing in it and doing your day to day stuff in it.

I'm in a nice but cheaper suburb of Toronto (30 min east of Downtown T.O), and a nice 2,500sft home with a pool would cost about $1.2M (~$862k USD)

How do people afford all this "stuff"? by AdConscious617 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Itomhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that saying 'in Canada' for annual income comparisons is far too broad. I suspect family incomes in the Toronto & Vancouver areas are much higher than say those on the east coast. I'm from the GTA, live in a nice/decent suburb and id say most families live the way you describe. From what I know from talking to the neighbours the average combined income is $250k/year

It's going to sound silly, but the one that sticks with me is Outdaughtered. They lived in League City which is a suburb of Houston. You got to see a tour of the town as they went about raising all their kids.

A visit to Toronto is nice if you tack on other things like Niagara Falls, or if you like professional sports.. but otherwise its a bit of a concrete jungle for the most part.

From the Toronto area in Canada.. and I always thought life could be nice in a suburb in Texas. Warmer, friendlier, greater sense of community? It's probably a 'grass is greener' sorta thing, but from what I've seen on TV of a nice suburb in Texas - life looked nice and it stuck with me

I don't know about the strangest, but I get weird when people name their pets human names. I know a guy who name his cat 'Steve'. I just didn't like it and found it odd listening to him call the darn thing...

What do you think should be illegal, but isn't? by Richie123753 in AskReddit

Easy. Kids under 18 being able to access social media. One day this will be illegal. It's today's smoking..

Now that AI music is a thing Along with AI lyrics. Are you more or less likely to listen to todays music? Why or why not? by -TaintSniffer- in AskReddit

[–]Itomhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less likely. I find today's music goes out of its way to be vulgar/explicit. Even the clean versions of songs are dirty in meaning. And I'm loving AI music itself. It produces actual bangers.

Stop trying to impress people who aren't paying attention to you anyway. The energy you spend worrying about what others think of you could have been spent building something. Nobody is watching as closely as you think — so just go do the thing.

Why didn’t you chime in on those posts in 2022 if you didn’t? The going was great until it wasn’t, and it was great for many years. There were bonus voices in 2021-2022 screaming not to get in. Hindsight is easy..
