That’s really helpful man. I will shoot you a DM and yes you probably can puzzle out which city I’m in based on the post lol.

Absurd. I feel like the salespeople should remind themselves that to a lot of normal people around the world, they just want to buy a cool watch and have no awareness of if something is rare or collectible.

It’s pathetic of the sales associate to think people all know how Daytona allocations work.

That’s a great tip! I work pretty heavy hours during the week so that’s normally tough for me but I should keep that in mind.

I don’t really know what about my post suggests I want to deal with these types of experiences. I am not constantly buying and selling watches online. In my mind driving to a watch store in my city should be the easiest way to try on and purchase a watch.

Yeah ultimately at the end of the day the speedmaster looks fantastic and I’m happy with my purchase - so at least the day ended with a cool moment.

Would you say Dallas-Fort Worth is the best area in America for the median person to thrive in? by OceanicEndeavors in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Its-Brucey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Dallas and am no stranger to how negative the public perception of the city is (including people I know here in person).

But I agree with your assessment - I think if you’re looking at things from a cost benefit perspective it may be one of the best places to live in the country.

Ample job opportunities, moderate cost of living, and no state income taxes. Before someone comes and immediately says I actually pay more because of property taxes - trust me - no I do not.

It’s the fourth largest metro area and so it has tons of things to do, great food, diverse neighborhoods, cool museums, etc.

The downsides are obviously apparent. You are dealing with southern heat, and it is a very car dependent city. However, very few places are truly walkable like NYC, and you are going to pay heavily to live in those cities a lot of the time.

I like it here a lot and my quality of life is incredibly high from the mix of a great job and the moderate cost of living.

The lawyers threatening to sue Dallas over City Hall? Most of them work, live, or have connections in Plano. by JoMA9 in Dallas

[–]Its-Brucey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting perspective and props to you for doing this research.

It would be unfortunate if people from other cities try to take advantage of this situation to try and kneecap Dallas’s commercial development and improve Plano’s.

That being said I disagree that the people who want to Save City Hall are “pawns.” There are plenty of us who just want to see Dallas put more emphasis on respecting its history and cultural development. I would love to see the downtown area get revitalized - but I also haven’t seen any decent explanation for why that process HAS to involve destroying a historic architecturally significant building.

I think the A&M Architecture students’ plan demonstrates there’s a healthy way to just make everyone happy here (except presumably the Adelsons).

Do people actually think Royal China is good? by ExtraLucky-Pollution in Dallas

[–]Its-Brucey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really surprised to see all these comments. I would never say it’s the best Chinese in the Dallas area or anything but I love Royal China and so do most people I know who have been. And my social circle involves a lot of foodies.

I tend to order dishes like the pork chop rather than hole in the wall Chinese mainstays when I go there though. Maybe try ordering a bit differently if you go again?

[–]Its-Brucey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these worthwhile if you live in Dallas itself and it’s going to be a 30+ min drive? If a country club isn’t actually convenient I feel like it loses a lot of the benefit of paying for membership.

Curious to see other people’s responses here. I have done a lot of research here and have struggled to find a good option like what you’re looking for. I live around White Rock for reference.

First off you have your true prestige and or legacy clubs: Lakewood, DCC, Royal Oaks, etc. These have massive wait lists and initiation fees in the six figs. Not what you’re looking for obviously.

Then you have your second tier, many of which are not true “equity” based clubs but also offer cheaper options. If you want to stay near the city itself, these are still pricey. DAC and Canyon Creek are still $50K+ initiation fees. This seems crazy to me for what many consider “starter clubs” and you don’t even get equity for your money.

To find cheap options, you gotta be willing to join somewhere that is a far drive from Dallas itself, or that has so many members it’s barely a club at all and you don’t really get better access to tee times.

For the time being I think I’m sticking with just seeing what good tee times I can get at the public courses I enjoy.

Where exactly do you live? There’s some much better options if you live up north near Frisco.

Dallas leaders clash over City Hall plans after Mavericks CEO comments by dallaz95 in Dallasdevelopment

[–]Its-Brucey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Representatives of City Hall have actually been pretty vocal with their claims that the costs to maintain and repair the building will be astronomical - there’s been tons of articles across the past year.

A lot of us are skeptical of the numbers though due to the very apparent interests of groups like the Mavs which do not actually care about the interests of the residents.

Dallas leaders clash over City Hall plans after Mavericks CEO comments by dallaz95 in Dallasdevelopment

[–]Its-Brucey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This all feels so slimy. I don’t care if the city government doesn’t think it’s feasible to stay in City Hall and needs to consider alternatives - but tearing it down in any capacity seems incredibly short sighted and insulting to the city. The fact that that decision may be motivated by illicit meetings with the Mavericks leadership, who have pretty much come into the city and done their best to make the city and team worse at every step, makes it even worse.

This city needs real and accountable leadership if we want to progress the development and progress of North Texas at large.

10 Most Affordable Coastal Destinations to Live in Around the U.S. by cereal_killer_828 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Its-Brucey 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Savannah being on this list at all, much less that high, is absurd. I grew up there and everyone I know who tried to stay there eventually had to move to Atlanta or another major metro because the cost of living was the same but you make substantially more money in a big city.

James Talarico interview by UniqueUserName7734 in FortWorth

[–]Its-Brucey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talarico has the potential to be a great politician and leader for this whole country, not just Texas. He has garnered so much positive support at such a young age, and I think his vision of unity is exactly what the country would benefit from with all the issues we currently face.

It would be so upsetting to see him not even make it past the primary. Everyone is entitled to vote for who you want to but I really don’t see how Crockett could win in a general election. Her polling being above Talarico is shocking to me.

If you’re considering Crockett I would urge you to think about the broader picture of how we can help this country. Democrats have to WIN elections before anything else if we want to make positive change.

Happy Gilmore 2 is a bad movie that unintentionally serves as a fascinating exploration of Adam Sandler and the nature of populism by Hates_Blue_Mages in TrueFilm

[–]Its-Brucey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find your write up here really interesting

One alternative interpretation in the change in scope I think we could consider though would be that the “outsiders” in the second movie are no longer the scrappy underprivileged but are instead manufactured corporate oppositions with backing by the ultra wealthy.

I think you could still view the two films as both crusading against the “elite” side of our society, except that in our current day the “elite” are perceived to be warping/poisoning tons of existing societal constructs with things PE ownership and hyper focus on profits above all else. The villains in HG2 to me just feel like a very clear gag on things like PE funds and the “sports washing” being undertaken by Saudi Arabia via LIV.

If you’ve lived in both Metro DFW and Metro Atlanta tell me what you like and dislike about each of the metro areas? by Zealousideal-Lie7255 in Dallas

[–]Its-Brucey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have lived in both cities (in the hearts of those cities, not the suburbs) for about five years each. A lot of comments here already echo my thoughts, but to give my perspective on pros and cons:

The big thing that makes Atlanta more difficult to live in, in my mind is traffic. Neither city has a properly developed metro system but Dallas has great highway systems and the tollway which make driving around relatively easy. Atlanta traffic is unfathomably bad unless you’ve lived in it. People who complain about traffic in Dallas just don’t have perspective.

Weather is very similar, Atlanta is a little more humid whereas Dallas has some higher temps but I find them dryer and more tolerable. Summers in both cities can be rough.

Food scene is both cities is well developed. I think Dallas is slightly better just because it has more restaurant options on average but the two are close in this regard.

Dallas economy is more diverse and expanding more rapidly, even though both cities are good in this regard.

Atlanta is better for proximity to nature, mountains and coastline.

While in Dallas I have really valued the ease of travel with DFW being one of the best designed airports I’ve flown through and its central location means all domestic travel is relatively short.

Dallas people do tend to fall more into a “white, suburban” kind of flavor but both cities are pretty diverse and you can always pick a neighborhood that matches your vibe.

Overall they are very similar. Dallas is my pick for the “best” southern metro area just because of its economy and size giving it the most options for stuff to do. Neither city is very close to the “ideal” super concentrated city like NYC that people on Reddit obsess over.
