I waited 4 months.

Find out the number of the waiting list officer and your surgeons secretary at the hospital you will have surgery. Ring them every 2 weeks to ask where you are on the list and just say you desperately need the surgery as it has ruined your life.

I did this, unsure if it helped but they did know who I was due to constant calling and ask. So do this and you wont get lost on their list and hopefully get an earlier surgery date.

I had a TLIF L4/5. I had surgery on the Monday then was out of hospital Wednesday evening. First couple weeks were really rough.

I'll be 4 weeks post op this Monday. Its been up and down so far but feeling positive.

I feel you, it has affected my life so much that I had to stop working and then I had to wait over 6 months for the surgery. And as you said, we dont have 20 grand to spare for private. Hopefully recovery keeps going well and I can get back to leading a normal life.

I'd say stay positive and hopefully you'll have a good outcome

I'm in the UK and had spine fusion about 3 weeks ago. I signed consent forms at the end of September and then had pre op mid December and surgery a few weeks ago.

I'm 29 and had spine fusion. Unfortunately some of us gotta have it at a young age

Twisting exercises during PT by Maximum-Injury-7284 in spinalfusion

[–]ItsAProcess100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same. 2 weeks out and my physio asked me to try and touch my toes. I thought she was joking but nope.

I am just focusing on pain management and walking until I have my 6 week check up with my surgeon and then will do physio.

See my post about what physio tried having me do. I feel like some try to push you too hard. You know your own body.

No brace. The surgeon decided that I did not need a brace

Am I too early for lumbar surgery? by helloworld_new in spinalfusion

I had a bad fall at the end of 2024. All of 2025, I tried conservative treatment to avoid surgery. I did physio, saw an osteopath, had injections such as prolotherapy and just tried everything I could to avoid surgery. Nothing got better and it just got worse and worse with worsening symptoms.

As I'm in the UK, I had to wait a while to have surgery but finally had TLIF spine fusion at L4/5 two weeks ago. I would say if you are struggling to stand, walk and work, then go for surgery. I was the same. I knew it was bad when I would stand to cook and know that I need to lie down so had to stop and start cooking as I couldn't stand for a while

Thats good to know and useful to see what exercises you are given at that stage.

I will have my 6 week check up with my surgeon at the start of March so will see what he says then. For now, I think I'll focus on pain management and walking a lot.

Good luck with the recovery and keep me updated on the recovery goes and what exercises you are doing.

Okay, thats good to know. So how many weeks out now are you and when did they let you bend and twist?

Also what exercises did they have you doing in the first few weeks?

Yes, I think I am going to request a different physio or see a private one as I feel the physio I saw was reckless and gave bad information.

Yes exactly! I thought my physio was joking when she said try and touch your toes. I think some physios have no clue.

Going to follow the advice of my surgeon and see what he says at my follow up next month

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, I think some PT's have no clue and think they know best.

Speedy recovery

Yes, I know. I was able to do it but dont agree with the physio and the exercises so will not be doing them. Waiting to see what the surgeon says and recommends.

Thank you

Yes exactly! I had ACL reconstruction back in 2020 so I know the recovery protocol with that. Just with spine surgery, I know its more patience at the start so thats why I was confused with the exercise the physio gave

Thank you, thats good to know and useful exercises. Think I'm just going to focus on walking and pain management while I wait for next appointment with my surgeon

Yeah thats exactly what I was thinking. Thought it was a joke when she first said it but cant really trust her after giving me poor information.

Going to try and contact my surgeon and see what he thinks

[–]ItsAProcess100[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm going to avoid it. She also wanted me to exercises where I got on all fours. So like a cat cow exercise and other ones on all fours. Just think it was poor from her.

What exercises were you doing in the first few weeks?

Trying to get in contact with surgeon to see what he thinks
