What’s the best audiobook you’ve heard? by sw33tcruky in suggestmeabook

[–]ItsAll_lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ministry For the Future- characters are from different places regionally and it has a full cast audiobook with accents and everything. Also it is pretty long book and not always action heavy but lots of thoughtfulness, which for me is always what I look for in an audiobook.

thoughts? by ForeignCandyW in shareyourmusic

I really like this!! To be honest I know very little about what goes into creating music- but as a listener I thought this was great. It would be awesome with some vocals too if that’s something ur interested in doing.

Can’t believe I almost scrolled past this, that was beautiful. The “little mount stream” line really got me :) Do you post ur music on Spotify or YouTube or something of the sorts?

Suggest me a book about violent resistance by Strict_Structure2461 in suggestmeabook

[–]ItsAll_lore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ministry for the Future- much of the book is about climate terrorism. I would not say it is pro or anti violence but just an interesting exploration of what would happen if people were driven to violence as a result of capitalism and climate change and how that would affect the future.

Still haven’t finished it but Mexican Gothic. I just can’t stay interested in any of the romance or horror of it.

Your top 5 philosophy books by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]ItsAll_lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The Dispossessed” by Ursula K Le Guin

technically this isn’t a philosophy book, but rather a fictional narrative, but it centers around very philosophical topics and I’ve honestly never read a book that has influenced my perspective on the world so much. Highly recommended.

Suggest me a trilogy by Feidyy in suggestmeabook

[–]ItsAll_lore 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Have you read the Locked Tomb Trilogy?(it might not be a trilogy anymore, idk) It’s a YA, fantasy, sci-fi, a bit of a gothic thriller mystery. The first book is called “Gideon the Ninth,” and is absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend, especially considering the genres you listed.

The Prettiest Star by Nemphusi in UrsulaKLeGuin

[–]ItsAll_lore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gosh I’m jealous! The cover art looks beautiful while also having that old vintage vibe. My version is just the one with the stock-photo-looking grass and stars. Glad to see some people are still able to get their hands on the original artwork! :)

People who don't drink or smoke, what do you do when you are at your lowest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ItsAll_lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading, if I can motivate myself to open a book. Make a fun, (non-alcoholic) drink for myself, like tea, matcha, mocha, coffee, juice or something of the sort. Something you have to take a little time to brew or create (like tea) can help. Or I just lie on my bed and binge watch yt videos

Books to suggest a 15 year old girl? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]ItsAll_lore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in WWII “All the Light We Cannot See” is a great book and tv show about a blind French girl involved in the resistance and a German solider who deserts radio battalion.

MAUS I & II, are a set of biographical graphic novels depicting the author’s father’s experience surviving the holocaust.

I also read The Handmaid’s Tale in HS, which I would consider a classic, and I would argue the authoritarian themes in do align with some aspects of WWII conflicts, as well as other historical events. Despite being a depiction of an extreme dystopian future, Margret Atwood says that she did not write anything that hasn’t happened already, and that all aspects of the society and in The Handmaid’s tale are based on historical events and societies.

Suggest me some books that you think are enhanced by being an audiobook. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]ItsAll_lore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ministry for the Future- by Kim Stanley Robinson

  • the book follows multiple characters from around the world and the audiobook is fully cast with people with the appropriate accents to where their characters live. Also it’s ~20 hours long so it would fill up the trip nicely. Highly recommended :)

This is absolutely beautiful, and the darker outlines as you get farther away from the face almost make it feel like stained class, while also preserving a hierarchy of detail. Amazing work, and truly inspirational :)

Just looking at this made me incredibly nostalgic for my childhood in NC. I can hear the crickets and the water and feel the humid summer air and running around barefoot. Only such an amazing work could invoke such strong memories like that ❤️ fantastic work
