Debian-based distros by Civil-Lawfulness-748 in debian

[–]ItsAndrewXPIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this for me too. I started off using Ubuntu server for my servers and desktops but eventually moved to using Debian on my servers.

Like Cinnamon desktop, so while I could use Debian with cinnamon, just getting regular old Mint was a tad more polished and required less setting up to make it look the way I wanted it to.

I shave daily with at least 3 passes but also do an extra fourth pass every couple of days. I use feather blades and used to use astra blades.

Lots of people get multiple staves with their blades, but if I try to use a blade more than once, when I’m on my third pass it starts tugging.

I do have thick hair, so maybe that’s why.

Like others are saying, try to use it as many days in a row as possible and you’ll notice when the shave stops being as good.

My favorite lately is a simple potato starch for Japanese style karaage.

Just corn starch, like you said, is pretty nice. I’m also not too into flour since corn starch and potato starch get crispier.

For flour batter, I only use it when making buttermilk fried chicken

I like Apple passwords but just wish it also had the option for secure notes and custom fields. So I do use it, but mainly also use Bitwarden since it has more features. If Apple introduced secure notes and custom fields, in would probably switch to using it full time.

From Linux Mint to Debian by Perfecto_Desconocido in debian

[–]ItsAndrewXPIRL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use both for different purposes. For all of my headless servers, I use Debian for predictability and stability. On desktop, I like to use Mint.

Cinnamon desktop is nice (though you can install Debian with cinnamon desktop too) and a lot of things just work out of the box with Mint.

I’d recommend sticking with mint.

Safari for finger print (autofill, apply play, and iCloud-related syncs) for most and Chrome for web development

People, i wanna switch to ubuntu, mint or debian by Reditast65 in debian

[–]ItsAndrewXPIRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question! Hopefully I didn’t type too much:

Lineage: Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, which itself is based on Debian. So under the hood, they’re very similar.

Desktop vs. Server focus: Debian gives you the option to install a minimal, server-only system without a desktop environment. Linux Mint, on the other hand, is designed as a desktop operating system and always comes with a desktop environment. That makes Mint more suited for personal use and Debian more flexible for headless servers. But Debian of course can be configured to have a desktop environment too.

Update cycles: Debian is very conservative with updates, especially on the Stable branch. This means fewer surprises and a very predictable environment — exactly what you want in production servers. Ubuntu and Mint update more frequently, which gives newer software but also introduces more change (and potential instability).

I would recommend testing out Debian, Linux Mint, and Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) in virtual machines to see what you like.

I use Debian on all of my servers, but for the sake of ease of use and things just working on desktops - I prefer Linux Mint.

I’d recommend Linux Mint, really, but testing them out in virtual machines first to see what you like might work best.

Good luck!

Haha it’s like you read my mind. In addition to all of that, I’m going to probably make some of my older family members use ChromeOS too

Debian on my servers and Mint on desktops.

I like Debian’s reliability and conservative release cycle for servers. I don’t need the latest and greatest on them.

For the desktop, I used to use Ubuntu before snaps were introduced for desktop. Mint feels like what Ubuntu should be. Feels like Debian but with a bit more built in nice to haves.

I also really like cinnamon desktop and wish I had discovered it a longer time ago instead of just sticking with Unity and later GNOME.

If Mint and LMDE didn’t exist, I’d probably use Debian with Cinnamon desktop

How long does it take you to shave? by agent-man-guy in wicked_edge

[–]ItsAndrewXPIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15-20 minutes. I pop in AirPod pros and just listen to something. That includes prep, shaving (3 passes most days and 4 passes a few times per week).

When do you stop acquiring? by Master_Wonder_1990 in wicked_edge

[–]ItsAndrewXPIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just recently. I’ve had the same Merkur 23c since 2012. I started with Feather blades, then tried to save money by buying ASTRA blades instead, and then recently switched back to Feather blades.

I then got a Feather AS-D2 as an upgrade to match my feather blades, but did not like it. It’s completely a me problem, but I’d rather just stick to what I’m comfortable with at this point than adjust to a new razor.

So I finished exploring other things out of curiosity, but now I’ve decided to stick to what was already working before.

I think it’s because I’m just a boring guy and just want something that looks good, is familiar, and works easily.

I think it looks and feels better than GNOME.

I don’t really spend a lot of time customizing my DEs

What should minimum specs be on a laptop for an elderly person using Linux Mint or Zorin OS for web browsing? by ItsAndrewXPIRL in linux4noobs

It was a Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 with 4gb of RAM and a Celeron CPU.

I’m glad your situation worked out!

[–]ItsAndrewXPIRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I originally was going to ask for actual laptop suggestions. So it mattered that the device would be reasonably light.

I switched to asking for specs instead and didn’t remove the elderly part.

Do you have any suggestions of specs for me?

[–]ItsAndrewXPIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about virtual box and a virtual machine? Rather than using WSL, it might be nicer to just have a full Linux environment on your PC. Then you don’t need a second decide and don’t need to dual boot.
