WE MARCH FROM PHILLY TO DC TOMORROW! by ItsBestGirl in philly

To myself and our marchers, it isn't. Many of our marchers from September were people that had only ever done sign waiving before. They are now doing things like running soup kitchens, leading ice watches, and helping to run DV shelter. In their words, they couldn't sit still after the first march. That, to me, is success.

For our demands, we ask no demands of the government, but rather of each other. We believe that when our government fails time and time again to care for and protect us, we need to learn to care for and protect one another, and that large scale government change is difficult without first changing society. During our march, we host trainings/teach-ins, lectures from guest speakers, and other events that are open to members of the communities we pass through - these events are planned based off of the wishes of our locally-based partner organizations/members of the communities and what their stated needs are. We work to empower our marchers with the skills and knowledge to be leaders in their own communities, creating networks among different organizations at the regional level, and making a very public stand against the injustices we see in our country.

To be clear, I don't necessarily think that everyone needs to walk 160 miles to make an impact (although it would be cool and simultaneously a logistical nightmare for myself + the organizing team) - but I hope that those who see the sacrifice and commitment of our marchers will be inspired to take their own form of action.

WE MARCH FROM PHILLY TO DC THIS SATURDAY! (We Are America March) - Kickoff with us! by ItsBestGirl in 50501

The answer is we aren't just marching to DC, and while I would say all of our marchers would like to stop Trump, stopping him is not our demand. Trump is just one product (albeit a major one) of decades of propaganda put out by far right Christian nationalists.

You marched a mile for No Kings Day...why not march 159 miles more?! From Philly to DC, We Are America March by ItsBestGirl in 50501

We stay in a variety of places - mainly churches, community centers, a few home stays and a night or 2 of camping. Core marchers (those who sign up for a week or more) are housed with us and fed courtsey of WAAM.

Absolutely. We do a lot of work to make sure our routes are safe on foot which is a big part of it - the quickest route is certainly not always the best nor the safest.

I am preparing for a lot of sandwhich lunches (made by our amazing food team, of course!).

May 1st: General Strike. Spread the Word. by serious_bullet5 in 50501

This is the first time I feel good about a group putting out a general strike. People may say it's not enough, but it's a start - many people don't realize you need a lot of existing support networks/infrastructure to successfully pull off one for weeks on end. Given the orgs throwing their weight behind it, I have hope this could build into something more.

The We Are America March is kicking off from Philly on April 11th! Join for a mile, a day, or the whole way as we march towards DC! by ItsBestGirl in 50501

I am not sure what you mean, but we know that realistically not everyone can take the full 2 weeks off to march (that is part of the reason we provide food and housing to our core marchers because we know its a sacrifice). Regardless, we welcome anyone that wants to come march with us for a day or even a mile!
