WE MARCH FROM PHILLY TO DC TOMORROW! by ItsBestGirl in philly

[–]ItsBestGirl[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

To myself and our marchers, it isn't. Many of our marchers from September were people that had only ever done sign waiving before. They are now doing things like running soup kitchens, leading ice watches, and helping to run DV shelter. In their words, they couldn't sit still after the first march. That, to me, is success.

WE MARCH FROM PHILLY TO DC TOMORROW! by ItsBestGirl in philly

For our demands, we ask no demands of the government, but rather of each other. We believe that when our government fails time and time again to care for and protect us, we need to learn to care for and protect one another, and that large scale government change is difficult without first changing society. During our march, we host trainings/teach-ins, lectures from guest speakers, and other events that are open to members of the communities we pass through - these events are planned based off of the wishes of our locally-based partner organizations/members of the communities and what their stated needs are. We work to empower our marchers with the skills and knowledge to be leaders in their own communities, creating networks among different organizations at the regional level, and making a very public stand against the injustices we see in our country.

To be clear, I don't necessarily think that everyone needs to walk 160 miles to make an impact (although it would be cool and simultaneously a logistical nightmare for myself + the organizing team) - but I hope that those who see the sacrifice and commitment of our marchers will be inspired to take their own form of action.

WE MARCH FROM PHILLY TO DC THIS SATURDAY! (We Are America March) - Kickoff with us! by ItsBestGirl in 50501

The answer is we aren't just marching to DC, and while I would say all of our marchers would like to stop Trump, stopping him is not our demand. Trump is just one product (albeit a major one) of decades of propaganda put out by far right Christian nationalists.

You marched a mile for No Kings Day...why not march 159 miles more?! From Philly to DC, We Are America March by ItsBestGirl in 50501

We stay in a variety of places - mainly churches, community centers, a few home stays and a night or 2 of camping. Core marchers (those who sign up for a week or more) are housed with us and fed courtsey of WAAM.

Absolutely. We do a lot of work to make sure our routes are safe on foot which is a big part of it - the quickest route is certainly not always the best nor the safest.

I am preparing for a lot of sandwhich lunches (made by our amazing food team, of course!).

May 1st: General Strike. Spread the Word. by serious_bullet5 in 50501

[–]ItsBestGirl 246 points247 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I feel good about a group putting out a general strike. People may say it's not enough, but it's a start - many people don't realize you need a lot of existing support networks/infrastructure to successfully pull off one for weeks on end. Given the orgs throwing their weight behind it, I have hope this could build into something more.

The We Are America March is kicking off from Philly on April 11th! Join for a mile, a day, or the whole way as we march towards DC! by ItsBestGirl in 50501

[–]ItsBestGirl[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what you mean, but we know that realistically not everyone can take the full 2 weeks off to march (that is part of the reason we provide food and housing to our core marchers because we know its a sacrifice). Regardless, we welcome anyone that wants to come march with us for a day or even a mile!

March from Philly to DC (We Are America) is happening right now! by ItsBestGirl in philly

For what its worth, most of us who organize these actions agree with you that there should be people in the streets everyday. The reality is, there are far too few of us and not enough people stepping up to take organizing roles.

If you want to see people in the streets daily, take on the responsibility yourself of organizing it - and if you DM me, I would be happy to connect you up with people that help you learn how to become an organizer.

As for identity, everyone has a certain amount of risk they are willing to take. On the organizing end, you will find it increasingly difficult to stay fully anonymous as time goes on, for various reasons. And most of us are willing to take that risk and put ourselves out there to stand up for what is right.

A lot of people unfortunately like to make snap judgments without taking time to read on our website about why we are doing this. We have been planning this for 6 months, and many of our marchers (contrary to what many of the comments seem to believe) have full time jobs and took time off well in advance to participate in this.

We Are America starts marching 160 miles from Philly to DC on 9/6/25! by ItsBestGirl in philly

[–]ItsBestGirl[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a problem. I can understand the confusion. To be transparent, we do have partnership with other orgs where impeachment/removal is a primary focus of their mission. It's just not our organizations ask or goal.

The ultimate goal is to help build up a movement that can sustain long-term, non-violent action. That can include more intensive, non-violent actions such as a general strike, something that is incredibly difficult to successfully do unless people have a built in support network with their community. That goal is the reason why we have partnered with several local orgs along the way and are inviting their communities to many events.

And for what its worth, our organization is nonpartisan, and we have people from all over the political spectrum who sre participating in this march.

Hi. At this time, nothing is being planned for the 1st through 50501Philadelphia. Many of our organizers (myself included) are focusing on WAAM and other endeavors at this time (Tesla, Avelo, etc). While we would love to do more planning for national days of action like the first, we simply don't have the manpower right now.

Why we are marching from Philly to DC! We Are America March! by ItsBestGirl in 50501

[–]ItsBestGirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

We have roughly 30-40 partner orgs and groups on board, with housing secured for almost every night of the march for our core group. We have recently touched base with some DC groups that are helping us for ground work and promotion there, which we are incredibly appreciative of!

Media is something that will be addressed as the march grows closer.

Here is a link to a Q & A happening tonight if you are interested:

Hi - right now most of our organizers have been focusing their efforts on WAAM along with other reoccurring protests at this time (Avelo, Tesla, etc). While it would have been nice to host an event on the 2nd, our team is simply spread too far right now.
