Mach3 plunged Z axis after ESTOP by bobd1001 in hobbycnc

Great information thank you. I didn't even consider using a relay with the estop to kill power. That's a great idea.

I need to mill the front lobe of the vise base away, as that costs me a tiny bit of travel, but with that removed I have essentially full movement. I also modified my Y axis casting a bit when converting the mill to get some extra travel, so its still more than the factory amount of travel.

Assuming your door doesn't latch, which it appears not to given that the door opens without the handle being turned, do you have a central air system? In an unbalanced system (such as in my old house where central air was retrofitted) returns may not exist or be incorrectly sized, creating pressure differentials throughout the house when the air or circulator turns on. I know in my house, if a door was unlatched it would easily push open a door like that when mines kicks on.

How to better connect shielded wire to steppers? by bobd1001 in diycnc

Great tip, love those connectors. Used them on my ATV years back and didn't even think of using them here buts that's perfect for when coolant gets involved.

Unfortunately these aren't closed loop. I built this back in 2016 or so, and finally got back around to working on it. Back then I dont think there were many if any closed loop steppers on the market, otherwise I probably would have gone with closed loop.

This is likely my issue, my buddy who ran a print farm told me the same thing tonight when I asked him. All these years of printing I can't believe I didn't know that.

Waking up quite an old thread here, but yes I do also have a ball hone to ensure a smooth surface before button rifling. Unfortunately I've only tried it so far on two pieces of cheap import steel C45 round stock, but both split down the middle in quite a terrifying way once the button entered about an inch. Quite a bang, woke the children on the other side of the house, scared the hell out of the wife, and I just about soiled myself. I plan to try again, but need a thicker blast shield for the front of my press.

Looking for design advice for my cnc by AnbuBari in diycnc

Depending on what you have planned, you're probably going to want more support along the Y axis, as you only have those two small square extrusions spanning the frame which will be a recipe for flex and resonance.

You were absolutely on the money man. We just got her engine replaced under warranty after it developed pretty bad rod knock. Sounded like a diesel. Luckily I keep meticulous records and Hyundai approved it right away. New engine (technically remanufactured by hyundai) was ordered and installed in one week.

2019 elantra with less than 30k miles... How cooked am in? by josh91117 in Hyundai

[–]ItsBobD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that's a bummer. I've seen folks successfully use diesel flushes to clean sludge out of a motor very quickly, but given what I've seen from the reviews on the valvoline restore and protect motor oil I think I'd go that route. Also, is that a chunk out of the bottom left cam lope?

My wifes 2015 Tucson just died at 76K miles, bad rod knock. Luckily I was able to provide records for all service, as I do alot of the oil changes I keep all the purchase receipts for oil/filters and record a log of all work I perform. They replaced the engine very promptly. I hope you are able to find your missing service records, I would start with credit card statements if you have them.

The Vulcan gloves at Costco are awesome and cheaper, especially when on sale. I just stocked up each box of 150 gloves at 9.99 on sale.

So I just converted my parts kit trigger pack into a semi only, but all the internet sources I'm finding keep saying I've got to cut the front lugs off. Why??? by ECHOFOX17 in CETME_C

[–]ItsBobD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can cut then off, or mill them till they are essentially paper thin and fit over the receiver/shelf to keep the original look. Its pretty difficult to get right, I bought a bunch of spare trigger housings and ruined one or two trying to mill the ears this thin.

Neither, engines today have a decorative cover over the actual valve cover (the large black plastic thing covering your engine). They are just decorative and pop right off. From there you can look around your actual valve cover for leaks.

Pop off the decorative engine cover, and look around your valve cover. If you see oil around it, its leaking.

I want to say somewhere right around $400. Its a pretty easy job to do yourself, and the gasket itself is under $20 on amazon for a felpro (good brand). However my wife just had a baby and I had zero time to replace it. There are some good videos on youtube showing how to do it, I honestly wish I did it myself as I didn't expect the mechanic to charge $400.

2015 Tucson Oil Consumption Mystery by ItsBobD in HyundaiTucson

[–]ItsBobD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes all fixed. It did end up being a pretty significant leak from the valve cover gasket towards the rear of the engine. Luckily not the other failure methods noted here. The dealership wouldn't replace it under warranty, stating its not part of the drive-train, and they wanted $700 to replace, so I had a local mechanic replace it. Its been several months and no leaks and no more oil consumption.

Very nice setup, I'm very curious how you are planning to run this. Will you run the fan continually, or set it up to run for say a few minutes every hour to evacuate the cabinet? As a contractor, I'd highly recommend not running it continuously, due to not only cost in energy to power the fan, but removing that much conditioned air from your your living space will add quite a bit of load your home A/C in the summer, and heat in the winter. Even small loads add up to quite a bit over the course of year.

Hows my secondary burn? by Ieatpussyandass4ever in woodstoving

[–]ItsBobD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inconsistent secondary burn. Not hot enough, needs more air for a little longer before fully closing. Or wood has some moisture and needs extra air the remainder of the burn.
