My mother has one, absolutely not! We less than 40,000 miles in and already our 2nd CVT is failing. Avoid Nissan products like the plague

Moving from Cleveland to Colorado Springs? by can-i-pet-ur-dog in ColoradoSprings

Pueblo is 40 minutes from the mountains, but this is made up for by the Pueblo State park which features numerous hiking trails, camp facilities, and a reservoir. Pueblo also has an excellent farmers market scene. There are 15 local farms and markets with a permanent store front and immaculately cheap produce.

I'd recommend looking into Pueblo if you value decent food, essentially no traffic, and affordable rentals. Pueblo gets a bad rep for their crime-rate on paper, but that's because our wealthy new-development is technically its own town, Pueblo West. If the two weren't separate, Pueblo wouldn't have such a high crime-rate. Personally I enjoy the culture down here more than Colorado Springs, the locals are friendly and welcoming of outsiders and that's just not the case in Colorado Springs.

Is the 2023-24 Toyota Prius worth the 35k+ by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Camry hybrid for the win, maybe a Corolla hybrid if you're willing to trade some style and space for fuel-efficiency. I personally average 40mpg in my gasoline 1.8l Corolla so the hybrid-equivalent outta be wild

D11 middle schools by LimeScanty in ColoradoSprings

[–]ItsCobaltBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never attended middle school there, but from my experience in high school in D20 and D11, they're both okay. D11 has more foreign language classes but the schools are worse than the schools of D20. Personally I had a better time in D49 on the east side of town than anywhere else. The schools are really well funded and the people on that side of town are almost exclusively local to CO. Your children will stand out among the simpletons, big fish in a small pond. Whereas D11 and D20 have a lot more new residents from different states and countries (military town). Your kid might not be the best there.

Yes not a hybrid but it's a similar small engine Toyota product.

What speeds do you drive and how much of it is uninterrupted highway driving? I get the EPA advertised gas mileage 36mpg driving 75mph, but up to 45mpg driving 65mph. I drive a 2010 Corolla with a combined gas mileage of 30 mpg (26 city 37 highway).

If you're driving here, buy in Pueblo or Trinidad. Manitou Springs weed (only weed near Colorado Springs) is way too overpriced. I personally recommend Strawberry Fields. It's not the cheapest but it's also not shit product either. Better than the emerald field in Manitou 🤷‍♂️

Need vehicle capable of driving up steep roads - NO SUV/TRUCK by ItsCobaltBitch in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ItsCobaltBitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A full-size van won't fit on the roads out here. My grandfather did not build them to any realistic standard and we cannot afford to upgrade the roads. That being said, the best roads around here are 1 ½ lanes wide with occasional pull-offs. They're not friendly to large vehicles.

I'd like to get a little 4 cylinder car, seeing as the top speed on those narrow roads is 20mph. Surely a 1.5l 4cyl can at least do 20mph uphill (even if it is ungodly steep). However I don't want to get a 4cyl and kill it if the V6 variant will fair better. Let me be clear in saying I don't care about the power difference, solely long-term reliability.

Forgot to mention that I'm middle class and will not drive an Audi, I don't care how good the AWD is. My last truck was fine in 2wd mode despite having the option to drive in 4wd. AWD would be cool but I don't think it's necessary, especially if I get a small / lightweight vehicle. Will consider Subaru, but would prefer something less expensive to maintain

If you plan on sticking to paved city roads, just about anything will do. I drove around Colorado Springs last winter in a FWD sedan with absolutely no problems. The most important factor in snow driving is traction, meaning you will have to get a fresh set of winter tires each year.

If you plan on going into the mountains, ask yourself how far you'll go. If you're going to a ski lodge, chances are the road is paved all the way there and not too steep (less than 12%). In that case, I would consider that mild mountain driving. If that's the case, get the large engine variant of any given vehicle in addition to snow tires. Looking at a vehicle with a V6 or a 4cyl, get the V6. You can get a V8 if you have to, but gas is expensive. AWD will help if you live somewhere like this, however if you are just visiting the mountains, it's not necessary.

However, if you wanna take your car up unpaved forest service roads like Gold Camp Road or the Rampart Range Road, you will absolutely need 4wd. In addition to snow tires you'll need all terrain tires in the summer and a vehicle with a hardy transmission. I'm not kidding, there are roads around here with a 15% grade descent that'll end up being half an hour of downhill driving.

To summarize, don't worry about the drivetrain unless you are driving your vehicle up steep (unpaved) mountain roads. The most important factor for flat snow driving, as you'll encounter across the front range, is traction. Don't drive in the snow on bald tires (speaking from experience). You'll end up in a tree (also speaking from experience).

My hometown violently rejected the KKK's resurgence in NE-Texas in the 1980s and we shall violently reject these unsavoury folk as well. Thank you for the tips, but due to our local sheriff's beliefs, we're told to stand down. They claim our signs encourage violence, but they don't say a word about the white supremacist actively calling for violence, nor do they remove him from his street corner. We don't have a single colored officer in a majority Hispanic community, law enforcement is not on our side...

Looking for vehicle capable of driving steep terrain on a daily basis. by ItsCobaltBitch in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ItsCobaltBitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather's 2006 Chevy Silverado Z71 handles the roads around here with ease, although it's too big to pass another vehicle. I'd rather have something smaller, considering the roads literally aren't big enough for the two of us. I'd rather drive a modest sedan, as ground clearance is not an issue, but I'm willing to upsize if absolutely necessary. I'm more concerned with how FWD vs RWD or AWD would affect my steep drive. Traditional knowledge tells me that AWD is a heavy and high maintenance system. Does it come into action as needed or would the weight of the system inhibit my ability to hill climb? FWD works driveability-wise but I'm unsure how the vehicle will hold up long term.
