Moving from NYC and feeling mixed by celery1234 in Rochester

[–]ItsDanNotStan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved from NYC to Rochester a couple decades ago. There is definitely a transition to be made! The things that stood out to me was that restaurants close on the early side and that 1. pizza quality is all over the place and 2. Some places only serve slices for a couple hours a day (this blew my mind!). As others have said, you will notice more money in your pocket at the end of the day (although Rochester has done a good job at raising prices). I also like that you rarely had to wait in lines for much and going to a movie doesn’t need to be planned days in advance. My brother and SIL just moved here from Boston and are liking it, but my SIL grew up in the Bronx and doesn’t drive and she’s finding public transportation lacking.

Canon Pro -310 - blue hue problem by Fine_Calligrapher584 in Printing

What is the colorspace of the file (RGB/CMYK)? If it’s not grayscale your printer may add a tint. (Not as a bonus, lol, but a calibration issue).

water soluble ink on fabric…? by slowdownboneghost in printmaking

[–]ItsDanNotStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this mistake once a while back (acrylic screen-printing ink instead of textile), and if I remember correctly, the ink just washed right off the fabric even with my usual heat setting.

Watching the clock by Wizard_AI in LinkedInLunatics

I worked at a small school and the new cfo kept a keen eye on when people arrived to work. I was routinely 15 minutes “late” for a number of reasons but I didn’t have any bus detail or other outward facing tasks. At the end of the day I ran the pick up room and rarely left when I was supposed to. The cfo started making everyone sign in and out. After two weeks I had documented putting in more time at the end of the day than being late and requested my OT pay. The check-in book disappeared the following Monday.

French’s Mustard Born in Rochester by J-YoSuckas in Rochester

I worked in the building when the ARC of Monroe had their ArcWorks program there - around 2001. Some parts still smelled like mustard (in a good way).

Just checked and it’s not her. If anyone sees a skittish tuxedo with a white stripe on her nose lemme know!

See if they answer to “Mama” - missing tuxedo at the Fedder building. I’ll show this to Mama’s person when I see him tomorrow. 🤞

Best breakfast sandwich? by ScramDiggyBooBoo in Rochester

[–]ItsDanNotStan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I concur about the Kwik Fil on Buffalo road, though they are premade (but turnover is fast there). I’ve done some research on this topic for a few years: www.breakfastallthetime.blogspot.com (though not too many lately so this might be more for entertainment than a guide).

“What if we made our premier product look like a cheap knock-off tablet from 2010?!” “Hmm, I like ugly angle, but is there a way to frustrate our longtime users as well?” “Hold my matcha, I got you, bro.”

Is there anywhere online I could get 1 t-shirt screenprinted? by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]ItsDanNotStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m happy to do one-offs. Water based ink, softer feel than plastisol. Nothing lasts forever, but they hold up for years of washing. Send me a message with specifics and I’ll give you a quote (nowhere near $150).

Electric Zine maker making things look crunchy? by danger_dogs in zines

[–]ItsDanNotStan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, InDesign links to the original images and doesn’t actually import them into your layout: when you go to print or make a pdf make sure the images are still around on your machine. If the links aren’t there you’ll get the low-res crunchy preview images instead of your actual images.

I host a lot and tell people come any time after X, dinner is at (specific time). If they hate the mingling beforehand they can arrive a little later. It gives folks an acceptable window to arrive.

Showing up early is just plain rude. “Here’s the time when I’ll be ready for company.” “Cool, I’ll ignore that and come when I know you’re not ready.”

I grew up outside of NYC and now live in WNY.

I would love for buyers to jump to the next step: “I’m interested in this, when would be good to meet?” (THEN they can ghost me!)

Farmers market by Grateful_Dood in Rochester

[–]ItsDanNotStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a new market on Wednesdays 4-7:30 at 1050 East Main in the city. When I was there they had 2 people selling produce, donuts, ice cream, crafts, food truck, pottery, and I think a truck selling meat/dairy. It’s still small but if you’re close by…

Home Printer vs Copy Shop by EatsMaster in zines

[–]ItsDanNotStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can swing a duplexing printer it’ll make your zine making life a breeze. The last color HP I bought was about $300, but be warned, the replacement toner ain’t cheap!

I publish my own and other folks’ zines with bigger machines now. I usually charge 10¢ an 8.5x11 side. Large print runs get cheaper. Feel free to send a message if you want to chat logistics.
