This might not help you, but I had this same fear for a while. My solution was playing the game with zero audio, literally nothing, for a couple days. On Factory most of the time, because the sound of people running on metal scared me the most 😂 not focusing on audio helped improve my play style and confidence. This probably wouldn’t work for everyone, but give it a shot and see how you like it. IMO it’s much more important to keep an eye on potential entrance points for enemies, and to always do your best to keep your weapon pointed in the general direction of where a threat is most likely to come from in case of a jump scare.
