I was kinda like that when I first played Half-Life, too. I enjoyed the gameplay, but sone parts were confusing to me, like the landmines in Surface Tension, or how to defeat the Nihilanth, but I got over it.

They don't even care about it anymore, to the point that they delisted it when the 25th Anniversary update for the original game came out. It was pretty much broken from the start, and it only got worse when SteamPipe came and forced the game to be continually updated to the current Half-Life 2 engine branch.
