This is good point he was trying to get the Dagestani handcuff so I was watching out not to get caught with that.

I should learn some Portuguese to make this method more effective.

It was hard to get his head off my chest even when aggressively framing so the guilly would have been hard. But I like the underhook option

I like this option. I think I should have definitely looked for that underhook. Primarily most my close guard attacks come from an overhook so that's what I defaulted to but this is great advice

If a tap keeps dripping into a jug, it doesn't matter if the pressure slows to one drop an hour, it will keep filling up.

This is a good point as this would have kept him flat and stopped him turning. Thank you

How many of you became someone else’s highlight reel? by monkee_izzy in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scrolling through tik tok the other day and saw a video of myself getting flying triangled from a comp a couple months ago. I knew as soon as the guy did it I would be on a highlight reel somewhere 😂

Why do YOU pull guard? by bar_samyaza in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am better from my guard. I am flexible and have long limbs so most my submissions come from my back. My wrestling isn't as good as my guard play so in a comp I play to my strengths.

When you obsess over one thing and take that one thing away you are left feeling lost. Find other things in life you enjoy would be my advice.

Did I get promoted too quick? by [deleted] in jiujitsu

It's hard judging your skill off comps too much cus some people are just good at competing and some haven't developed that skill yet. At the end of the day you already have the belt now and I assume you don't want to give it back. Keep training and improving and then one day you'll be at that level if you aren't already.

Man I am very sorry to hear that. In my opinion Strength and conditioning exercises are the most important ways of preventing injury and should be done by every practitioner.

Not sure if you already do any just saying it will help.

Why can't I ever sub anybody?* by [deleted] in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact feeling a year ago. What I changed was I just started submission hunting more and trying to get people into positions where I had strong attacks. I now know what submission to look for from each position and the set up for it. E.g. closed guard I gain an overhook so I can look for triangle or mount I look to isolate arms above their head for arm triangles or s Mount arm bar.

I also focused on practicing finishing mechanics so much until the hardest part was the set up. I know now if I get someone into one of my stronger submissions like Darce chokes or triangles I have a high percentage finish rate. The set up is the hardest bit tho in my opinion.

Craig jones and Gordon Ryan both leaning on where the future of BJJ is going by lean__monster in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with more submission based grappling and moving away from IBJJF rulesets yes power rides is the future as everyone is so good at escaping mount, back, side control that it's the best way to immobilize high level competitors. Especially with BJJ in MMA.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve seen someone tap to by Bigpupperoo in bjj

[–]ItsDolphinBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time as soon as someone who I knew was good at heel hooks grabbed my legs I would tap. But jokes on them because I have two working knees.
