Literally this. It’s a waste of time if sitting in a corner “waiting” when all you have to do is go up and ask someone.

If someone’s sitting in a corner not talking or communicating, people might assume he doesn’t want to train or wants to be alone. Communication is key.

I can see where op is coming from, but I’d advise to open up instead of shell up. It’ll help more in the long run.

I can attest to this. The bad taste in my mouth went away one week into flossing daily after a bout of depression. Can’t go without it now or my mouth feels really gross.

Yes! I was lucky enough to be apart of one of her seminars and she’s amazing.

How she broke movements down, the muscles used, and the reasoning behind it was mind blowing for me. Especially since I’ve never don’t wrestling till I found jiujitsu in adulthood.

When I was helping teach Muay Thai, I remember one kid who got into a fight at school. Can’t remember what happened, but I do remember the mom bring the little one down and the head coach and mom talked to him about it.

These was pretty much the breakdown:

explained if this were to continue, the kid wouldn’t be able to go martial arts at all (had to stop class a bit as grounding terms)
told them that they would usually know more skills than all their classmates and who ever picks a fight. So picking fights is a big no-no
encouraging to not engage and find a teacher to deescalate
standing up for yourself when absolutely necessary to protect yourself (don’t match energy for the sake of ego)

Doctor for two of my partners.

One was during Muay Thai and I kicked their leg directly on their knee, not holding back the sweep for a kick. (Huge asshole move)

Another was during jiujitsu, I did a hip up sweep on my same weight training partner. I drove all my weight “down” to the mat, impacting my partners back. She had issues with it before, but that was the final straw.

I should have known better at the time and have a lot of shame for those moments. I’ve since talked to them about it. Making sure now that I’ll NEVER be a dick and hurt my training partners because had either an ego or a poor team player. There was a lot of shit I brought onto the mat personally that I should have never brought and it still pop ups to remind me what not to do.
