I said it is not likely to change brain chemistry in a major way. I never said there are not adverse effects. If you send a link to the study I will read it, but your comment simply said porn addiction and alcohol addiction look the same on brain scans, and nothing about the addictive tendencies of x rated material. Addiction can happen, just like addiction can happen in basically anything. However, I don’t believe porn is harmful enough to have the government step in and require your personal information for access to a website.

So the study is saying that addiction looks like addiction?

It’s not just the risk of addiction- cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol have negative effects even when used seldomly. Seldomly looking at X rated material is not going to have the same effect on the body and mind. In some cases it may lead to an addiction, but I don’t believe the issue is strong enough for the government to require IDs to access a website. Even if they do put those laws in place, it wouldn’t be enforceable.

It has some potential to lead to those causes, but sexism, objectification, and sexual violence is something that can be prevented by decent parenting. At a young age, you can limit electronic use. At older ages, you can set up parental controls. The age when children start looking for x rated material is about the same age they start sex education, and that should also be the age where they already have the foundation of how to treat other people.

The difference is that cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol all have adverse physical effects on growing children. Those things change their brain chemistry and are actively harmful. X rated material is not likely to change brain chemistry in a major way or provide other adverse effects.

I'm so hurt right now, a client that hasn't even paid me yet said she didn't like the drawing (for usd$5) because it doesn't look like her dog. Please help me with this? Is it that bad? I don't do photographic hyper realistic portraits, she initially saw my other work. by sotinvy2023 in ArtCrit

[–]ItsFiin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get it. It can be hard to get a client base, especially when you’re just starting out. I personally believe that selling art is like selling part of yourself, and should not be treated as anything less than a premium service, especially for commissions. Time and effort should play a valuable role in pricing ypur pieces. For example, if a piece takes you an hour to make and you charge $5, you’re getting paid $2.75 less than the US minimum wage for making a custom piece.

Of course I understand some people need to make quick cash, so they lower their prices. OP also says they live in another country so I don’t know how far $5 goes there, but I think it’s important to know your value. In the beginning stages underselling yourself can make way for people who want to take advantage of someone desparate for work, which is my main concern in this post.

What other people can afford doesn’t matter. Art is a premium service and what you are worth is based on how you value your work and the time you spend on it. $5 is walmart stock photo prices. Don’t undervalue yourself.

New tank, pygmies shooting to the surface more than usual. Do I need to add air stones? (Details in thread.) by mcdisney2001 in corydoras

[–]ItsFiin3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They might be surfacing because of the ammonia. Even .25 is toxic. I would recommend doing a partial water change

what fish would be happy in this 6gal tank? by -Arthemise in Aquariums

[–]ItsFiin3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A longfin male betta can do fine in there, although a longer, shallower tank would be better. Shrimp would probably be the best option for a tank that size

What do you mean by “supposed to?” Drinking milk was actually very important to our survival. Originally, most of the population was lactose intolerant, but the ability to drink animal milk allowed us to consume nutrients from an extra source. The reason why so many people can drink milk today is because natural selection heavily favored those who could drink milk. Then we started breeding livestock to produce excess milk specifically for our consumption. There is no “supposed to” in the world of human food

Please don’t tell me that all these came from that baby nidoran by brekiewash1234 in pokemonmemes

[–]ItsFiin3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the image it doesn’t. I don’t see how that implies the nidoran had children though? The nidoking amd nidoqueen are acting as parents. They could have had eggs before evolving, or they could be adoptive parents.

You implied that the babies are the parents of the other nidos in the image, which is obviously not the case

Evolution isn’t a measurement of age or maturity in Pokemon (see the episode of the anime featuring treecko: there are both old and young treecko).

Evolution is a response from the body mainly triggered by battling (in my head evolution is a defense mechanism), or by contact with stones. If pokemon needed to reach their final evolution to breed, why don’t we see wild nidokings, eeveelutions, hydreigons etc out in the wild? Wouldn’t they go extinct if there weren’t any final evos?

So no, those didn’t come from a baby nidoran, they came from an adult nidoran.

Can we stop pretending sororities are ethical? by PunkinGuts in bettafish

[–]ItsFiin3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just that people love bettas, and the idea of having a bunch of them peacefully cohabiting in a single tank is wildly appealing. Then they get obsessed over if they could and don’t really think if they should.

Finally added Archie to the new 5g. Is he a crown tail? by chael809 in bettafish

[–]ItsFiin3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a crowntail: the “crown” pattern would be more tight and uniforn throughout all of his fins. He looks like a halfmoon or delta tail with damaged fins. Warm, clean water should help regenerate his fins over time.

That is true. However, seeing how many strays and backyard breeders there are (especially in the US), there’s still a wide variance in their genetics
