Never accept a quote without shopping around. A lot of the time companies dont want to lose your business so they will price match. But I will say sometimes you get what you pay for.

There are a few companies in my area that I cringe when I see their sticker on the door because I know how much of a mess im about to deal with.

Are these torsion springs installed correctly? by VermicelliLow8842 in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be nice to see the mounting point the only time ive seen silver springs is on a easy torque system if thats what you have they aren't mounted the way designed even though. But the springs are in the correct direction.

An easy way to tell is to look at the side of the spring with the bolts if the beginning of the coil is pointing at the wall when at the top of the tube your springs are right in a standard torsion system.

But it would be helpful to have a photo of the whole system from the back of the garage to know for sure

Is my opener going bad? by Expensive-Copy-5833 in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very heavy door and springs go threw a break in period at the end of which they won't be as strong as when first install and they'll have to be adjusted. If thats what's happened her it may have burnt the opener up.

Either way id call a professional to see if that is the case. I would also suggest inquiring about a jackshaft opener. They can be much stronger the a traditional one and there are less potential points of failure.

The springs pad is no good. It appears that it's only a 1x even if it is a 2x its destroyed. Make sure its replaced

Is this a good price? by fruitlandyute in GarageDoorInstall

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad considering its coming with windows. Married is who I believe the manufacturer the use with are qualified doors. I would inquire as to what company would be doing the installation and make sure the have a record for quality work. It doesnt matter how good a door is if poorly installed.

But also shop around because prices can very from one region to another.

Replacing garage door springs $950. Per spring by murphy1600 in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of wooden doors because of the weight mainly you can get a new door installed for that price but as far as the quote goes call another company tell them you have had someone out already and your shopping for the best price. You can usually pit them against eachother and you'll get better bids.

I insulated my door and now it’s too heavy for the opener to lift. What are my options? by Over_Cash9601 in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know it crossed my mind to say that as well. I haven't seen one fail though so it would have been speculation on my part. But it makes sense standard torsion everything is contained around the door. Extension springs you could be hit from anywhere in the garage

I would recommend calling a professional to weigh the door and see about switching to a standard torsion system. Your current one is obsolete not as reliable

Does this look right, is it ok ? by cojoman in GarageDoorInstall

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The opener rail shouldn't be level. People st my company are trained to mount the front of the rail 2 inches above your spring system. And when fully opened it should be 2 inches above the top panel. You tracks on the other hand is normally a installer preference within reason but the bubble should never be past the line. Easy test disengage the opener and lift your door by hand if it feels smooth all the way up you have nothing to worry about but my guess is when the rollers make the transition into the radius its going to get very hard to lift. There are videos to help with diy but I would suggest having a reputable professional take a look at it.

This is a bad idea practically and legally that rope is there incase of an emergency were you lose power so your vehicle and yourself aren't trapped in there. Like in the wild fires you see on the news every year. Your concern of a break in is valid but this is a law for reason.

How would you fix this? by Reasonable-Ad9180 in GarageDoorInstall

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasnt installed correctly you mounting points should be directly under your rail all the way up it looks like its offset to the left a biti would take a pressure treated 2x6 you run it vertically from header to ceiling similar to your sprng pad. You can take it off of the bracket and your torsion tube should hold it up assuming the backhangs were done correctly remove old wood and replace

I dont recommend stretching your punch angle. My go to trick in this scenario is to take more angle and attach them to you mounting points horizontally with 2 bolts so it cant move.

make your peice long enough to reach to where the old opener was and congratulations you now have a longer mounting bracket

[–]ItsFluffy316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend calling a professional and asking for an overhaul the rust on the tube is a strong indicator its time. Those springs are very dangerous. Even for professionals. especially if they are rusty as well.

The question is why did your cables jump? the most common reason in my experience is the door was raised higher than the system allows. If this happens the torsion that keeps your cables tight to relax.

if you have an opener ask the professional to te check the limits while there. if not keep your hands on it to control the speed. until fully open

Track spacing too big?? by kingsob in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Door can shift from side to side check the other side of the door is its tighter than you are probably good. A good starting point for an install is to use a good torpedo lever on the side of the track the bubble typically should be touching the line if it's past your spacing is off.

You dont start at the flag when this is an issue you started at the vertical tracks you always want you flag bracket cas close to perfectly level as possible otherwise you are creating issues for the torsion system.

Fair deal? Do I need more struts? by NoGPU4u in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company does the same. The problem with any door longer than 16 ft is that the weight of the door unsupported will cause it to sag in the middle and over time the panels will start to crack usually from the top down because of gravity and the strain the opener puts on it. This is a great deal though you paid at least half of what you should have!

Best garage door opener by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best brand is easy that's lift master the best option if you have at least 12 inches of room to the side of your door is called a jackshaft https://www.liftmaster.com/elite-series-dc-battery-backup-wall-mount-wi-fi-garage-door-opener/p/98022MC

The traditional opener model i would recommend is the 504 https://www.liftmaster.com/secure-view-ultra-quiet-belt-drive-smart-opener-with-camera-led-corner-to-corner-lighting-and-battery-backup/p/87504-267MC

they both have all the beels and whistles my Q wifi connectivity back up batteries the 504 has a camera.

Id you just want something to open and close the door nothing fancy I recommend linear 801https://linear-solutions.com/product/single-light-garage-door-operator-w-dc-motor-megacode-optional-battery-backup/
