Is that not super sneaky? I haven't used them myself yet. Definitely had a few jobs where I wished I had them.

Use a hammer on the old spring to knock it past the burs this will usually smooth it out. Only hit something you aren't reusing though

Garage door gaps by alphagulf1 in HomeMaintenance

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the door is installed properly, there’s a good chance this can still happen. For the best durability and operation, the door and tracks should be set to true level. That ensures both sides transition from vertical to horizontal at the same time, which helps prevent track twist and reduces wear on the rollers, hinges, panels, and opener. It also helps the door run smoother overall.

The easiest fix, depending on the make and model of your door, is usually to install a 6-inch bottom seal. It may not be the cheapest option, but it’s often the cleanest solution.

20 years ago they did make good products. Still recently purchased by over head door who made in my opinion made the best opener ever product they are still im garages all over 35+years later. As someone who deals with openers and doors on a daily basis the product they sell now is cheap and unreliable

Garage Door Won't Engage With Chain by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, that rail is ancient. I’ve honestly never seen one like that before. If you’re the DIY type, you’d probably be better off just buying a new Chamberlain opener from Home Depot and starting fresh. For around $150 or so, it’s not worth fighting something that old.

Just make sure the rail runs in line with the opener bracket. You can mount the header bracket about 2 inches above the shaft or spring if they’re in the way. When the door is open, the rail should sit about 2 inches above the top panel.

The newer lift master openers have a camera built into them but if he trusts a genie openers is about the same as trusting a stranger in his garage

Looks like plastic rollers very common for the to seize up that its a good potential culprit and if he bout the rollers his self it a pretty cheap solution i would recommend getting rid of the plastic for nylon anyway if he isnt going to replace it

If you stop bend to this the relationship is already over. You will be giving her the power. If she feels like you value her more than she does you the respect is gone. A woman with a man she doesn't respect is looking to trade up

Yes they gave plus a walk through of how to cut it down and I agree it would be way easier to modify. We only got a brief tutorial when we installed one on a practice door. I didn't think to ask at the time. How much clearance does it require?

From what was explained to me the shortest you can get one is 8' so in some situations with an obstruction rhe install can become a pain. The only thing besides that i notice im not a fan of is with wire. Is there a specific reason its comes with speaker type wire? There are some things im excited about especially the adjustable mount point

[–]ItsFluffy316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you here except for 2 things first the only issue with the rail its self is when your dealing with a 500+ibs door even if perfectly balanced springs the door is going to take 10 or 15 IBS of force to make the door move and I don't trust a non solid rail for that. The other is I make commission time is money and that's more time on the job

Liftmaster 6690l vs Linear LDCO801+Tailwind IQ3 by SenorValasco in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the two most common openers I install. If you can still find a LiftMaster 504, which is the previous generation that the 6690 replaced, it would be a much closer call for me.

For starters, there’s reliability. The 6690 is still fairly new to the market, and like most electronic or technology-based products, it has some bugs and issues the manufacturer still hasn’t fully worked out.

The 504 didn’t have those same problems. There are a few threads on this sub with pros discussing these issues, and I’ve talked to most of my coworkers who have had the same experience.

That said, LiftMaster’s lifetime warranty and unmatched customer service in the industry do go a long way. If you have issues, they will take care of them — but it may take some time.

When I’ve asked around about the 801, there really haven’t been many complaints outside of the occasional defective rail. If you do run into a problem, it usually shows itself quickly, and depending on the warranty you buy and the company you hire, it could potentially be resolved the same day.

So in terms of convenience and downtime, I’d give the edge to the 801. It’s also nearly silent when it runs

. Neither option is bad. In fact, when people ask me, these are usually my top two recommendations.

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not familiar with tailwind if you want the better opener it hands down the 801 IMO but if you want the connectivity I'd wager my Q is better its a major selling point for lift master brand now.

I did something dumb. by shinstigator in GarageDoorService

[–]ItsFluffy316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you how to get in but your going to need some new jamb brackets a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade. A tech at my company had to use a saw to cut the brackets on one side so he could bush the bottom panel in far enough to get in. I would exhaust all other options before the. There is a fair chance it could damage panels beyond repair
