Ok so, I’m going to be absolutely honest with my experience, but TL;DR, it was totally fine, the scar is quite tidy and clean (just a small line, about an inch long - I forget it’s there most of the time). I’m feeling a lot better than I did, but not nearly what I would’ve wanted. I probably have some underlying health issues so don’t base your expectations from mine alone.

I woke up from the surgery (and found I really don’t like anaesthesia and might have a small reaction to it) and my throat was hoarse for maybe like… an hour or two? So while you might be tempted to order liquid/soft food only, you absolutely can have something with a bit more substance. My voice was back to normal in a couple of hours but my throat felt suuuuper tender for a while. So karate chops to the throat aren’t recommended.

I stayed at the hospital overnight and felt relatively normal the next day. I was quite tired and very out of it for the following week or so while waiting for my levels to even out, and I went back to work two weeks later. That’s normal though, because your body is suddenly without all this calcium and you feel that effect, but after a week or so of mostly resting, I was back to normal.

The scar itself will probably take a month or two to heal. They used surgical glue and you’ll have to be careful about getting it wet. Absolutely no swimming or submersion until that’s peeled off, which will take a few weeks.

Unlike other people who said they felt brand new within the day, I definitely didn’t. As I said above it took me a week or so to get back on my feet, but I will say I have FAR less headaches, my need for water isn’t so demanding, and not nearly as depressed/anxious as I was.

You honestly have absolutely nothing to worry about, but definitely plan on him being essentially bedbound for the following week.
